F1 Official Thread - Grand Prix of Britain

Yeah, he was definitely pushing the limit on what was acceptable.  Like I said, I could see what he was trying to do... and it's fair play to push someone wide to compromise their exit, but at that corner, it just didn't work!

He didn't need to run that wide.

Agreed. That onboard made it Nico look like a fool :lol

Lewis stans are even more brutal now online lol

This whole story from Niki about Lewis, we shall call it ThrashGate!... and him completely denying it (via Merc) is hilarious.

But wasn't Niki one of the main guys who pried Lewis away from McLaren?   So of course naturally he's trying to sabotage him!

Idiot fans are idiots.   What was funny was that during the race, when they gave Lewis Softs on his final stint and Nico SuperSofts, they were all complaining about sabotage cuz Lewis was asking why Nico got SS's.  But as it turned out, the SS had too much deg and the S ended up being the better choice.  These fools are always looking for something to blame.

Yeah I'm German, but I have always been a Hamilton fan since his first race with McLaren.

I'm no fan of Rosberg or Vettel. I don't know why, but I have never liked them that much.
How about Schumi?

I was a Lewis fan in 2006 (his GP2 races were amazing), but have always been a team-first fan so when he jumped I didn't follow.  Eh... oh well.

I liked Schumi, but I would not consider myself a fan of him.

Honestly my favorite  was Häkkinen at that time.

I have always been a team-first fan too, always supported McLaren-Mercdes. I was a big fan of Mika, after that Kimi was my favorite. Now it's Lewis.

That is probably the main reason why I was no Schumi fan. I just can't support Ferrari. There has always been something unlikeable about them in my eyes. After Kimi signed with Ferrari, I could not support him like I did before.

The split between McLaren and Mercedes was a really difficult decision for me. I decided to support Mercedes, because of Lewis. But I still wish McLaren all the best, especially Jenson.

^ My thoughts exactly... except for the Lewis & Mercedes bit.  Mika's my all-time fave... and have always been a huge Kimi fan, so I was pretty devastated when he left for (grrrrrr) Ferrari.

Same Here
I loved the ethos at Mclaren and thought the Mercedes partnership with Lewis as a driver was perfect.
They had the best looking cars, best livery, best factory, and the best driver but I decided to support Lewis and Mercedes after the split but I'll rather them fighting up there with Mercedes than Ferrari :lol

I still don't know why he left. I have my own theories but it's worked out for him and I see Mercedes as the Mclaren of old with the the best looking cars, livery and driver.
I only started watching F1 in 2007 so forgive me.

With the new regs next year, I'm hoping Mclaren gets back to top form and Honda gives them a good engine. I don't know how the cars would look like but I pray it looks something remotely to this, the GOAT.

^ I said it a long time ago in this thread, aesthetically that generation of cars are some of the best to me. Those cars look so aggressive with how wide they were and all of those winglets for aerodynamics :hat

That generation of aero was nuts.  I remember thinking I would never get over the change from that generation to what we have now... but now it just looks "normal"... oh well.

Next year will be very interesting though.

These renderings have potential.

Wow at that banner.

So I was watching this and was thinking if the differences in gender means women are at a disadvantage, then why don't they get their own series.

Even things like archery, men have an advantage due to strength and although it may be harder to tell in F1, from what the mechanic said :lol , it'll be difficult.

Anyone know more about it?

I don't really know that many female drivers in other series and how well they do against the men.

Those look like A1 GP cars. :lol

2007-2008 spec F1 cars were awesome.

Meh qualy session. Didn't Lewis leave the track at Luffield on his pole lap? 8o

Sky starting to get annoying. They kept on badgering Kevin Magnussen on the track limits thing, but when Lewis did it they didn't bat an eye when he did it. :{ :lol

Leaving the track is only forbidden in turn 9, 15 and 18

Haha, silly fans... the whole Austra thing seems to be quite split.  Some say Nico was at fault, while I think I saw Nigel and Karun say that what he did was OK.  Felipe said that Nico was wrong, but get what he was trying to do.  So many opinions... fans will only hear what they want to hear.

But yeah, I noticed Lewis going off at Luffield too and thought the same thing... then saw Nigel's mid-Quali Tweet.

@nigelmansell
Drivers briefing it was agreed with all drivers that turns 9,15,18 would be zero tolerance because those corners are where you get advantage

The problem with only listing specific turns is that it creates confusion.

Regarding  Kevin, did he actually exceed track limits or did they just not look at his lap early enough.  JB said that once Q2 had started, it was all over... meaning it wouldn't have made a difference had KMag's lap been valid or not.  Welp.

It's the ongoing debate, isn't it?

Bernie threw out the idea of having a female-formula... some hated it (saying it was sexist), while some thought it might work as the "next best option" for ladies in racing.  I remember Carmen Jorda wanting to get behind that idea.  But physically, ladies can compete with men in other forms of motorsport... we've seen in in rally, touring cars, Nascar, Indy... but why not F1?  Yes, it takes a lot of physical strength, but the cars aren't what they used to be.  JB said it himself, the cars aren't as tough to drive nowadays.  Then you throw in PR moves like having Jorda as a "development driver", when in reality, she isn't really that fast and doesn't have the merit to back it up.

OP finally edited the thread title. :lol

Hope Nico and Lewis go at it again.

I could see what people mean by sexist but it's hard to say if men and women are on the same playing field IMO. I remember those quotes about the cars being slower but as this formula matures the cars are getting faster and are meant to be even faster next year.
There's also the endurance aspect as well.

A woman's formula 1 would be ideal IMO but F1's already expensive as it is so maybe in a lower formula.

Very interesting subject though.
