I just looked at the weather forecast. There should be no rain during the race. Would have made the race even better.

NT fam, I've been getting into F1, but had a few questions as I'm pretty new to this --
1.) How are races won? Is it a certain # of laps you need to complete in record time?
2.) Correct me if I'm wrong, but the strategy of the sport is dependent on your pit team (Ricciardo's team goofing at Monaco) + your driving skills + psychology?
3.) What are considered the best F1 races of all time?

1.Races are won if you complete the required number of laps in 1st place. The number of laps are determined by the lenght of the track measured in kilometers. So not every track will have the same number of laps as the previous. There is a time constrain, and it is usually implemented when there is heavy rain and the race is stopped.
2. It's a team sport, everybody plays a part in the race. From the engineers, to the car designers, aerodynamicists, pit crew, driver, etc...
3. There's quite a few memorable races. I need to brush up on my F1 history. Ayrton Senna driving on slicks(?) in the rain, with a broken gearbox, and finally winning at Interlagos comes to mind.

1. Designated number of laps. Depending on the circuit, laps can range from 78 (Monaco) to 44 (Belgium). The Monaco race-distance is around 260km, while Belgium is just over 300km. The entire race has to be less than 2hrs.
2. Yep, team sport. You see the drivers out there doing their thing, but it takes an entire team of people to get it all right. Strategy - when to pit, what tyres to use, etc all are factors. And yes, psychology plays a part... if you're leading a race, but the guy behind is hunting you down, the pressure builds. It's hard to increase your gap to someone, but you can very easily lose all of it in a matter of seconds.
3. As for memorable races... there are so many. Depending on the era, there were lots of epic Senna races back in the late 80's-early 90's. Then there was Schumacher era in the 2000's. While I wouldn't call some of those "epic", he did have a lot of good battles with Hakkinen/McLaren in the late 90's. And in more modern times... as we're at the Canadian GP...

I think he was the only one who made the 1 stop work ?
Bad day at the office for Rosberg but some of the problems weren't his either. I think his DRS wasn't always working and the puncture too.
Liked the gamble by Ferrari. Kept me on my toes. They're definitely a lot closer now to Mercedes.

While completely legal, imagine the uproar had Nico made that move on Lewis!
LOL @ some of the media & fans sobbing over Lewis' luck a few races ago! The media needed a narrative, I guess! Seriously, the people complaining must not know anything about F1.
I think Bottas also 1-stopped... as did Alonso. 52 laps on his Softs!
I thought Ferrari was gonna make that work too! But with Seb and Kimi both locking up several times, I'm guessing they had brake issues too. Woulda been a good fight to see with Lewis on old tyres!

It looks like he got one of his wheels on the grass which made him spin.
Nico made that same move a couple of years ago.
They both locked up with cold tyres and couldn't do anything, Lewis said he had full lock on but still understeered.

Nico was a lot further back in '14. Much closer this time and probably expected a bit of room.
It conveniently worked out for Lewis, that's for sure!
I hope to see another replay of Nico's spin... dunno if he touched the grass, but initial thought was brake-balance, rear-locking related, which given the track and corner, made sense.

Nico should have backed out of it and kept third position IMO like Lewis did in 2014.
He would have avoided contact and losing positions.
