Oh, that's fresh, Seb.

I know, man... haven't seen you in a minute.

Still working on that rig of yours?

I need to fire-up Project Cars again!

The past year... I've been around quite a bit. Finally got to attend my very first motor racing events live. Attended the 24H of Le Mans last June (mini meetup with a couple dozen Project CARS members from all over Europe and North America) and witnessed Hulk make history. :smokin Was pulling for Audi, though, but it was all good. Met Rene Rast during the pit walk (very nice guy, insanely quick driver... won a lot of big races last year and this year's 24H of Daytona). Shame didn't get to see McDreamy -he was far away on the podium by race end lol). Not bad for my very first motor race. Couldn't stay up for 24 Hours even if I wanted to. :lol

Newfound respect for drivers using slicks in the wet. Even just on karts, it was challenging. Really wet karting session, too! Soaked from head to toe. :lol

Afterwards, I then proceeded to borrow a rental car (BMW 420d cabriolet) and headed straight for the Nurburgring for a Ring Taxi lap in a Porsche 911 GT3 with Dale Lomas (of BridgeToGantry.com) at the wheel. We were the first ones out on track during that public driving session, too. REAL LIFE > VIDEO GAMES. Period. Insane circuit. Those drivers are crazy to actually race there. :x :eek Apologies for the motion sickness induced by the video. I thought cameras were forbidden until the very last minute. Could've mounted the camera to the windscreen or something.

Then drove to all the car museums and factories I could visit in a week: Stuttgart (Porsche, Mercedes), Maranello (Ferrari), Modena (Pagani - made me like the Zonda less and LOVE the Huayra. The workmanship is just incredible.), Bologna (Lamborghini), Ingolstadt (Audi), and Munich (BMW). Drove some nicer "rental cars" in between as well: a Ferrari 458 and a BMW M4. Those made the main rental car a chore to drive ;) I LOVE the Autobahn. Was an epic two weeks off work. Wish I could do it again this year (couldn't though).

Then attended the F1 Grand Prix in Singapore in September. Waited 15 years to attend an F1 event. So expensive. :x Luckily enough I won passes to the driver's autograph session at the Paddock Club though the early bird ticket raffle. Got to meet most of the drivers. Had Seb and Kimi sign my Ferrari team shirt, Hulk his Porsche 919 shirt, and Britney a Mercedes shirt and a cap. That was pretty much a perfect weekend. Ferrari won, too. :hat What an experience.

As for the simulator, I went through five revisions from that metal pipe rig I built before deciding on a do-over. In the process of building an 80-20 style aluminum profile rig at the moment. Should be easier to add/adjust components on that when it's finished. Just need to find time to resume work on it.

I know, man... haven't seen you in a minute.

Still working on that rig of yours?

Yeah. Project CARS Corvette and other American cars DLC should be out soon btw...

Thanks. I had 24 hours and a few days of practice. :lol Was my first time shooting motorsport. Definitely enjoyed the challenge.

Used a Canon 1DX + Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II with a 1.4x III extender for most shots during the day, and without the extender at night. The fencing made focusing pretty tricky, as well as the Porsche Curves at night.

Lol. I got it in Tokyo for roughly $2,800 cheaper than what it was going for back here in Manila. Basically US grey market eBay prices from a Japanese Canon authorised dealer. It's just a bit more than a new local 5D Mark III unit with extra batteries and a grip. Warranty is only 1 year for the 1D series, anyway, so I didn't miss much. Just spent the savings on lenses and accessories (which were cheaper there, too). :D

By the way, camera prices in Hong Kong are similar to prices over here, so I understand the shock. :lol

Plus the 70-200 2.8... proper gear!  Must be heavy AF!

With the sensor so good nowadays, you can probably not use the 1.4x and just crop the photo... still very good quality, I imagine.

Do you have a Flickr acct?

Yup. You can feel the heft after the long hikes to and from camp to the grandstands. :x A monopod helped lessen the burden. A 100-400mm would've worked well in the daytime. Tried a friend's Tamron 150-600mm, and it could provide tight shots of the pit box.

Le Mans shooting setup:

Yup, have a Flickr. You can see the other shots in there, and some from the 150-600mm too.

Btw, a couple of Macca P1s for SinnerP

Yeah. Couldn't have done this holiday with the family in tow. All those factories and circuits are in the middle of nowhere. :lol Would've been awfully difficult to get around just on public transport. Goodwood was two weeks away. I passed on attending the F1 Austrian Grand Prix in Spielberg in favor of Northern Italy and Munich since I was to attend the one in Singapore, anyway. No more available hotels near the circuit, either.

Driving on the Nurburgring in one of those rental track cars can get rather expensive, by the way. They need to hold a multi-thousand Euro damage excess on your credit card upon rental -even for just the cheapest one! :x

I need to see the Red Bull on track but at first glance I don't know what to think of the matte paint.
I like them doing something different but I always looked forward to seeing these cars shine in the night races.

Yea I doubt I'll be able to afford that. I knew a guy who went and he told me if you crashed, you had to pay per meter for the damaged barriers.
Dunno if it's true though.

How far are you from Goodwood?

63.4 miles according to google so a 2 hour drive roundabout.

Yup, that's true. A weekend can get expensive really quickly. Even more so if you crash. But all sorts of people drive there. Just know your and your car's limits and it'll be fine for the most part. Then you have the nutters to worry about... :lol

That Red Bull livery looks like it belongs on a sneaker than on a racecar. 8o

Totonator and Co. going to introduce the new car soon:

And how about the other venues like Brands Hatch, Donington or even Silverstone?

You have so many places and events to choose from!  Jealous!

Brands is the closest to London, iirc. Would love to see/drive Paddock Hill bend once in my life. :smokin
