I literally thought in my head "It's not like he Dilfered his way to 2 SB's..." when I read dlands post.

Hes not. Pretty clearly if his career ends today he doesn't get voted to the Hall.Originally Posted by AG 47
Yeah, I'm not sure I understand how A-Rod (even though we all like him) is a lock for the HOF right now and Eli isn't. I asked this question before and folks had no response for it. I mean we're ready to say that A-Rod could be the best ever, but Eli in the HOF is a stretch? Illogical. Outside of Big Ben, no QB had been more clutch in the SB than Eli in recent years. Not Brady, not Peyton. Eli.

Isn't this topic whether Eli would be in the HOF if his career ended today?
That's the way I interpreted it.Originally Posted by tim teufel

After reading through 15 pages of this thread, I have come to the following conclusion:
If a Quarterback wins 2 Superbowls, he is a Hall of Famer regardless of everything else.
I mean, thats essentially what people the people who are advocating Eli being a HOFer already are saying right?
If you win 2 Super Bowls, 2 SB MVP's, 2 game winning drives in the 4th quarter of those SB's, win more road playoff games than any other QB thru history to this point, throw for 4,900 yards in a season and nobody claims you were top 5 that year, and have a chance to realistically finish with 40,000+ yards and maybe in the neighborhood of 300 or so touchdowns, in a historically difficult divsion, with wins over Favre on the road, Rodgers on the road, Romo on the road, and the 9ers defense on the road, and multiple wins vs Brady/Belichick in those same SB's, yeah, I'm ok with thinkin he has a legit shot at some HOF love. Sure, why not?

They might screw Ben on 1st ballot. Brees and Eli get in though. Rodgers needs more years of greatness.Originally Posted by cguy610

Didn't know that an average QB rating above 100 for that playoff run that year was Dilfering, but carry on.Originally Posted by AG 47

Because he Dilfer'd his way into that first SB victory.

Yes, but Eli is more than capable of playing subpar the duration of his career. Seldom does he light the regular season on fire the whole way through, and I wouldn't be surprised if some up and coming NFC East teams relegate NYG to an average 8-8 record the rest of Eli's career.
It's also very possible that he has an Eli like, 2:1 TD:INT ratio during the regular season. Not saying it happens this way, but like it can go the other way, I can still see Eli allowing us room to question his HOF status.
Giants don't have a 50/50 shot of making the playoffs this coming up year? If not then what 60/40? This is a juggernaut?

key word is "wins" eli 2 game winning drives in his 2 super bowls.....15 TDs 2 ints in those playoff runs.....best QB bar none in those playoff runs....only QB to throw for 15 TDs in the 4th qtr.....only Qb to beat 2 1 seeds and a 2 seed while winning super bowl mvp not once but twice......
i agree not a HOFer yet only because if it ended today he didnt do enough......4 or 5 pro bowls good stats, an MVP type year gets him in......another super bowl its not a question.....and the giants won't be worst in rushing next season, that was fluke....and the nice reg season eli had was his worst stat season out of play action.....only will get better....
only 2 super bowl current QBs have a higher playoff QB rating than eli rodgers and brees

thank you! people keep comparing eli to dilfer its not even in the same area.......in fact dilfer 4 TDs in the playoffs for his super bowl is more than peytons 3 TDs for hiswho is more dilfer peyton or eli?........and no i dont think peyton had a dilfer playoff that year, its not all about TDs
The question becomes, do you need a Super Bowl to SOLIDFY your name. Thankfully Peyton did, and so did Eli. But if you had to compare, I would say that Peyton came into the league and crafted his name. More so, he left his stamp on the 'game'. Can you say the same for ELI? Probably not.
Eli right now is the most clutch QB in the NFL.....just ask bill simmons
