i still have much respect for the E39 M5. i saw one yesterday when i was running and had to do a double take. i'd buy a lemans blue one w/ the two tone sport interior and leave it stock.

what year/mileage is yours and how is the reliability?

I personally think the e39 m5 is one of the sexiest cars BMW has ever made. I have a Carbon Blk with the 2 tone blk/blu sport interior. The car is a 02 and just hit 50,000 miles. As long as you do the regular maintenance stuff, the car is very reliable.

e39 m5 is one of the best looking bmws ever imo

you should just pick up a 335i coupe in montego blue or alpine white and call it a day
 
Thanks for the info guys.....yeah I did a quick look at eBay Motors, they are going for cheapppp, I didn't know the 5-series depreciated so quick, Ithought they would hold their value like the 3's.

Maybe I will scoop up a used 08 or something.

Any other suggestions? I want something I can drive every day (I don't drive all that much but I don't want something impractical like a Lotus or aGT3).
 
We need for info in order to suggest you something. Do you want a sedan or couple, auto or manual, alot of power or decent power. I say pick up a 335i.It's reliable, fast, lots of mods available, and plus you will save alot of money.

jp.If your looking at a 997 they aren't as impractical as you think, but then again I have always LOVED driving so the car never seemed uncomfortable tome. There was a guy on RL who dropped his GT3 for a C63 and he absolutely loves it. All that torque in a luxurious package.
 
I like a usable trunk and four seats, I'm in college and I like being able to drive people if need be and transport some stuff. 997 is borderline....I knowa Porsche is a much purer sports car, but they bore me since they're a dime a dozen in SD/LA.

over 600 hp to the wheel, much more to the crank....
I am smoking and leaving 997 turbos and whippin gallardos on the highway with 22"s on.

it's won best in show everytime I've put it in a show.

but 600whp on that is ridiculous and anyoneworth their salt in the car game knows its next to impossible to do in the e60 M5.... anything short of a new ECU, 150 nitrous shot and full bolt-onsyou're not seeing 600 at the wheels...if I'm not mistaken a full stroker kit from Dinan is what is needed to see 600hp or a full kit from ASR wil getyou close to 700 at the crank...get that thing dyno'd and scan the sheet because I'm calling BS...

I would go for the M6 though. Not that much more if your whippin in that price range.
 
there is a 700hp m5 in florida on the 6speedonline forums.... and yes, he's runnin NOS. I'm not.
I'm not trippin either.

every single mod and tweek has been done to the M5, from headers, pulley's, 3 section full exhaust from the motor bacc, both ecu's done (there are 2people on earth who can tune both ecu's, even Dinan only touches 1 of them)
why get the M6 when I got an r8?
 
yea i know about the 700hp beast over here...didn't know you had the full setup, I knew exhaust but not the rest how much did you gain from the 2nd ecutune...still 600whp on the motor is

. Dime dozen unless you get the GTs, even the turbo is seeming pretty common.Since you brought up the 335 if the C63 is in your range i'd suggest you try it.
 
I got 80hp from both ecu's. I wrote bout it in my blog about singh autosport.... they did that 700hp M5's tuning.
jags is NO JOKE!

platinum installed the cams and so much and literally everything and even fabricated parts by BMW specialists. I didn't mind being a guinea pig.
I've heard an eisenmann with full system and it doesn't sound like mine cuz of the headers and all sections, etc. the dual cold air cone intakes was ahuge increase too.
 
How much did the ECU stuff run you?

AirPhillipines- What kind do you drive? Also, have you driven the C63? I haven't, but I've heard it's not a very engaging driving experiencecompared to the BMWs....if I got a 335 it'd be manual, I don't think any Benzes come with a stick.
 
Claims of 40+ hp gains with a chip are laughable, and of course are never documented with any real data. To say you he doubled that number up on your car isblasphemy, simply put. Normally aspirated engines just do not respond to ECU tuning and never will.

I'll say it again, Juan(M5Ranger) "only" produced 580rwhp....and thats with Nitrous and more supporting mods.

I'd honestly love to know how you make more power than his car, but of course a dyno will never be produced...

m5rangers car is producing more then 580rwhp FOR SURE.
and btw, I've seen CL65's and bentley GT's gain 100rwhp easy with simple mods.

I got 41hp on my r8 with the ecu mod.
it's undrivable when I press the M button on a cool night.

as for a dyno, if I get the time and find a place to do it right, I'll do it.
it's about as much as a fable as my GSXR-1000 having a 241mph top speed.

that's not photoshopped. like I said, I'm owning 997TT's on the straights and on the highway i'm pulling away from my old Gallardo with anEGear.
I've already dusted my r8 on the streets.
