Do you consider flightpods = Pennys?

Did you mean Flightposite?

If he wasn't injured, they may have more aggressively marketed the shoe as his.

Whilst we're on the topic of what may or may not have been, i was thinking about the Penny V recently.
Had a random thought about the Penny V just now:

As we know, Eric Avar designed 1-4, and the Foamposite one.

Also, IIRC, he also designed the Garnett 3.

Reportedly, the Garnett 3 that released isn't the shoe they originally intended to give Garnett,
and when he heard about Tuned Air he said he wanted a shoe with that technology.

Those shoes already produced as the Garnett 3 were then (rumour has it) relabeled and sent straight to
outlets.

Is it possible the Garnett 3 is a reworked Penny V???

Given how far in advance Nike designers work, it's likely that when Nike pulled the plug on Penny's line,
Avar had already started work on the V.

Whilst (i think) the Penny V would either have used Zoom, or a low profile Air max unit in the heel,
There are some design elements in the Garnett 3, which could perhaps be seen as an 'evolution' of past Penny shoes.

The way the midsole/outsole transitions into the upper, as with the Penny 1 and 2, and a strong emphasis on midfoot support,
with the low profile of the IV, and fairly extensive use of reflective materials, as used in varying amounts on Pennys 1 - 4.

There's also the stitching on the upper which is kind of reminiscent of the Penny IV.

Maybe i'm reading too much into it however.

Thoughts?

You have a point and being that Garnett was rocking Flightposites???
You never know..
I wish that i had the full story from Nike on The Nike Air Penny V.

Now that you mention it... in that Sole Collector interview Penny said he was told the design team
was moved when his sig ine was shelved. Maybe just maybe you could interpret that as meaning the designs were moved to Garnett.

Maybe i'm clutching at straws mind you.

penny rocked flightposites tho when he was in PHO... had some sick PEs

It's possible since the Garnett III's came out the year after the Penny IV's...

But I think Aaron Cooper was the lead designer on the Garnett III. And in the SC interview you are talking about, it says that the design team moved todifferent divisions.

Those flightposte PE's that penny wore during his phx sun gig i would like to see Nike release em.

i misquoted the sole collector article. As for cooper i may unfortunately have the facts completely wrong. Can anyone confirm who designed the garnett 3?

I remember Penny being the first to wear the Flightposite in the last year of his stint in orlando against the Sixers. I believe the last two game he wore theall black ones after previously wearing the Blk/Royal IVs. If I find the pics.. I'll post.

I read in the SC mag that after the Penny IV, Nike wanted Penny to join JB.. but he said he didnt want to go from having his own line to going tosomeone elses.. and I dont blame him, but the designers of his previous shoe line was going over to JB.. so it was either that or just stay with nike without asig shoe line

WE SHOULD DEFINTELY GET SOME PICS IN HERE ON THIS TOPIC SOUNDS VERY INTERESTING AND POSTWORTHY... SB- I CALL THEMPOSITES NOT PENNY'S

its the same thing with kobe and the hyperdunks,

he wore them before, but later on got his sig more hype

Nobody remember these...

I think he meant these (Air Podposite):

They came with a royal/black colorway but I can only find these.

Penny also wore the Gold Flightposites during the playoffs with Orlando as well..
He did?

I have all the 99 series games against the 6ers on tape and I dont remember Penny wearing the Gold flightposites.

Maybe im wrong and will have to check the tapes but im sure he only wore the all black Penny PEs that have been pictured here on NT b4 in the last or last 2away games. He wore his black/white/blue 4s in games before that.

Back then the NBA was strict on teams wearing sneakers that were subtle and matched team uniform colours how would he get away with the Gold flightposites witha white/blue,blue/black uniform? this was the first year the Magic switched to there durasheen unis.

Sorry always been a huge Magic n Penny fan but dont remember him wearing the Golds for Orlando.

Peace

WoWWWWWWWWWW. Kobe had his sig Wayyyyyyyyyy before hyperdunks. The hell you been?
You mean after the 2k4's he got his sig?

2k4's was kobe's shoe, but then everyone in league was rocking em. Then came Kobe 1's.

c'mon, i knw kobe had a sig but it wasnt as hyped as it was before the release of the IV's

the I's, II's and III's were not as admired as much of IV's

Kobe got hype off of the Hyperdunks, and im sayin that Penny did the same with

other shoes not just this one in particular

Put the penny logo on the flightposite, i bet people would go buy.
