I wouldn't be surprised if this was a cover up for a diving team that was looking for a sunken ship. I remember hearing about a group that did this so that they could get enough funding from the publicity to go in and collect the sunken treasure while other groups were looking for the 'sunken UFO.'

Coast To Coast AM on Monday night had a 3 hour segment dedicated to this. Very interesting stuff, the radiation this thing is emmiting and the fact that all electronics start malfunctioning once they get close is crazy
