Jungle Book, which will be directed by Andy Serkis, is moving back an entire year, from Oct. 6, 2017, to Oct. 19, 2018.

Warner Bros.' Jungle Book movie is one of two competing films based on Rudyard Kipling's book of the same name. Disney's version, directed by Jon Favreau, comes out on April 15 in the U.S.

"I've got to say that personally I'm absolutely thrilled that Warner Bros. has changed the delivery date of our movie," Serkis wrote Wednesday. "The ambition for this project is huge. What we are attempting is an unprecedented level of psychological and emotional nuance in morphing the phenomenal performances of our cast into the facial expressions of our animals."

He also added: "So, every minute more that we have to evolve the technological pipeline will make all the difference. … The evidence is there already and it's off the chain exciting, so hang on in there. …This is truly next-generation storytelling, and it will be the real deal!"

Wow, studios competing on the same material.

Given the positive reviews of the Disney version above, let's see how WB does it.

Still wierd that different studios will release the same movie in the same year. They did that with Hercules and Snow White too. There were two movies about the Kray brothers that came out last year.

Actually, WBs Jungle Book comes out 2 years from now.

There are always similar concepts/movies being made at the same time, one trying to beat the other toe theaters first.

It's been happening for a long time now, the oldest one I remember was Armageddon and Deep Impact in the 90's.

But yeah back in college I had a screen writer professor and she said there's always competition out there and once one hears of the other that might come out, others try to adapt and make a similar one. One main reason Matthew Vaughn passed on making DoFP because he wanted to do Kingsman before another studios makes a similar spy film and beat him to it.

I understand having similar story lines: White House Down and Olympus Has Fallen are both about terrorist infiltrating the White House. The Martian and Interstellar both have Matt Damon stranded on a planet.

But the jungle book and the movies I mentioned earlier are both sharing the same source material. If two studios released a movie about a guy skateboarding in the same year that's fine. If I see "Hawk" and "The 900" dropping in theaters the same year (with both films being based on Tony Hawk) that's doing too much. Unless one is a documentary for Netflix or something.

Yeah the cartoon one was on that "scat jazz" wave, but this one seems decent.

The original voice actor was white though lol.
