Dez Bryant ruled ineligible

Dez Bryant was, is, and will be the #1 wide receiver in April's draft... Having a relationship with Deion ain't gonna change that. He's a Top 10-15pick all the way no questions asked.

All you need is 3 yrs out of HS. Dez is good to go
A couple spots at the top of the draft is HUGE money. Otherwise, Crabtree wouldn't have much reason to sit out. What's the difference in amount of guaranteed $$$ btw the #10 pick and, say, the top 5?
No doubt, and I never said that it wasn't, but you're acting like (Well, at least what I got from what you typed, so I could be wrong) BMW dropped 10-15 spots ONLY because of not playing that last season. BMW wasn't the #1, clear cut, absolute BEST wr in the draft. There were legit concerns about Crabtree, his health, whether he's a product of the system/will it translate to the NFL, AND his attitude. Plus, he was competeing w/ Percy, JMac9 for that top slot. Add in the fact that you had at least 2 top tier QB's coming out, Dominating DL's, 3 premier LT's and the unequivocal best LB in the draft coming out then it's easy to see why Crabby fell to 10 after he got his way out of Oakland.

And add in the fact that unless your some kind of supermonsterbeast, WR's typically don't go top 5

Off the top of my head, the only WR's in recent memory I remember going top 5 = CJ, Fitz, Dre Johnson, Charles Rogers, P-Dub....who am I missing? (

And Crabtree ain't on NONE of their levels.

Wait, who's BMW?

With predraft hype, there's always one receiver they hype up as being a monsterbeast and a potential #1 overall pick. It's rarely ever true, but younever know until the draft actually happens. Especially when there's a weak draft, even a player with some issues like Crabtree can easily be considered atop 5 pick. Shoot, cuz it was Detroit at #1, there was the slim possibility he could go #1 just cuz it was Detroit. Crazy to us sure, but that's what wesaid even when they kept taking WRs.

Crabtree was easily acknowledged as the #1 WR in the draft that year. In a weak draft, that's all you need to be drafted as high as real monsters. SeeAlex Smith.

At least I hope that's what he meant

That's how I read it as.

Hmm, good point about vacating wins. Wonder if that's gonna happen. Altho, how big a deal is it since it's only been 4 games with only 1 marquee winthat was wiped out by the loss to Houston. Prolly better for them to just start counting the games now.

this is a Minor violation. this will not cost OK State wins.
Deion Sanders is not associated with the school. no money changed hands. Dez Lied about being with Deion. thats where the discipline comes from.

Damn, they suspended him the rest of the season for that? So this is supposed to be on par with what Blount did? But he's just a "kid" and not aman!

If Benn ever had a real QB, dude would probably be regarded as good as, if not better than Dez IMO *shrugs*

Damian Williams doesn't really sniff Regis as far as pro potential goes...

I m not that big a Benn fan, I think its mostly cus i dont see him catch the ball enough. and more then likely its not his fault (Da JewMan Aye)

For most of Deion Sanders' 14 years in the National Football League, itwas a good idea for wide receivers to stay away from him.

Apparently, it still is.

Within one 24-hour period, two prominent Big 12 receivers (one former, one current) made headlines. And in neither case did their association with Sanders serve them particularly well.

On Wednesday, Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree finallysigned a contract with the San Francisco 49ers. While the structure of the contract may bedifferent from what the NFL club was offering in July, the guaranteed money is about the same.

Sanders, whose agent Eugene Parker was Crabtree's officialrepresentative, mentored the receiver throughout the process.

That's not to say that $17 million guaranteed isn't significant money. Of course it is. But it's pretty much whatCrabtree could have collected in July and then gone about the business of becoming an NFL wide receiver.

The Crabtree-Deion entourage may have had MC Hammer on theirside.

The 49ers with their 3-1 record had the real hammer.

On that same day, the news in Stillwater, Okla., wasn't so good. Oklahoma State's prize receiver, junior Dez Bryant, was ruled ineligible a decision the school said it will appeal - for lying to the NCAA about a meeting with Sanders in Frisco last spring.

By its nature, there doesn't appear to have been anything irregular about Bryant working out with Sanders and having dinnerwith him. That's not an NCAA violation in itself.

But when it was believed that the meeting might have involved others, the NCAA looked into the meeting.

Bryant said it didn't happen.

Sanders said it did.

"The kid panicked, man," Sanders told The NewYork Times . "I don't lie, and he panicked."

Bryant may have thought it was a violation because the two visited a facility called Fieldhouse USA where Sanders was meeting todiscuss working out athletes there to prepare for the NFL draft.

While lying to the NCAA isn't a good idea under any circumstances, this seems to be a minor infraction not worthy of such asignificant suspension.

I had hoped to ask Sanders about this and the Crabtree situation and whether his involvement with these athletes might put themin a bad light to NFL teams.

But when Sanders returned my call Thursday, he said very little, especially for Deion.

"I'm employed by the NFL, you know I can't talk," he said. "What I said to The New York Times, that's what I had to say. I'll be talking about these things on the NFL Network this weekend."

When I asked what Crabtree had gained by missing four games and receiving about the same money he could have signed for in July,Sanders said, "You're kidding, right? Treat me with class, Tim. The same way I treat you."

Until that moment, I was unaware Sanders had ever treated me in any particular manner since we have spoken maybe three or fourtimes for possibly a total of 15 minutes. That's probably on the high side.

Whether Sanders' meeting with Bryant was any kind of recruiting mission for Parker, I have no idea. Let's say itwasn't.

Sanders mentioned very quickly to me that he talks to Bryant all the time. If that's the case, why hadn't he done abetter job of preparing Bryant for talking to the NCAA, advising him that he had done nothing wrong and had no reason to lie?

Maybe it's an innocent mistake. It's really Sanders' involvement in Crabtree's case that is more troubling andcould cause either NFL teams or prospects to think twice about future dealings with him.

When Crabtree's holdout reached the start of the preseason, Sanders said Crabtree knew he could get $40 million instead of$20 million. He said there were two teams willing to trade the 49ers for his rights, and "They will pay this kid, and he knows that."

Sanders also said, "Pretty much the San Francisco 49ers need him desperately. You would think that Michael Crabtree wouldneed it, but he's not in dire need of money at this time and I'm saying that honestly."

What Crabtree was in need of, as Sanders knows, is NFL experience. Very few wide receivers, even those drafted in the top 10,make an instant impact in the pros.

Add to that Crabtree's experience in a Tech offense far different from the NFL norm while playing against the Big 12'srather suspect defenses, and one can only imagine how much harder he has to work now in order to give his team any production as a rookie.

As for Sanders working with young athletes, many of whom come from troubled backgrounds, more power to him. I don't even careif his reasons are as noble as he suggests or not. I don't doubt that he has valuable lessons to teach them.

But while Crabtree feels lost at practice this week and Bryant feels lost without it, I'm wondering what both athletes feelthey have gained through their association with Deion Sanders.

This $*!% ain't even that serious...
indifferent.gif
at the NCAA, theyexploit these student athletes every year and now they won't let some kid play because he had lunch with a former pro athlete
smh.gif

the lunch and meeting wasnt the problem. Dez is the one who made the situation worse by lying. He's a dummy for that.

You have to realize, Deion is heavily linked to Eugene parker so they have to investigate if He is meeting with Dez as a representative of Parker (an Agent)

its actually a very legit investigation, that would have ended with dez telling the simple truth.

Yep, Dez made this worse than it needed to be by lying...

Still though... Bet the house he's got papers signed with Eugene Parker 3 months from now.
laugh.gif

Anyone get the feeling that if Dez were at a bigger school like UT, USC, Florida, etc., this wouldn't be as big of a deal as the NCAA is making it out tobe?

Oklahoma State is the perfect school for the NCAA to try to make an example out of...

Reported that Bryant will enter the draft. Wonder who is agent will be....

"I feel this is the best decision for me," Bryant said. "It's what God wants me to do. I'm going to start my training Tuesday in Tampa."

Bryant was declared ineligible by Oklahoma State after misleading NCAA investigators about his relationship with Deion Sanders.

"This year didn't go the way I wanted it to," Bryant said. "It was so hard. And to be honest I had my head down at times. But the NCAA has made their decision. And I respect that. And now I've made mine."

Bryant said he hopes to live up to the NFL production of receivers such as Randy Moss and Anquan Boldin. He is projected as a first-round pick.

"When I talk to the NFL I'm going to be truthful with them about what happened," Bryant said. "It will be what I'm supposed to tell them, which is the truth."

Bryant said after being suspended for most of his junior season, he just wants to play again.

"I love the game," Bryant said. "I have a passion for the game. Football is what I do. And any NFL team that I play for is going to get great effort."

Now can start spending that advance money and get some professional training before his workouts.

I hate how they suspend Dez for basically lying but the NCAA didnt do anything to LaGarrette Blount for punching someone.
