no reason to run missions over, just do bounties and crucible you 'll get gear eventually

All blue and purple gear obtained past level 20 has a light level on it. Purple's have more light than blue's. The cumulative light of all your gear determine your Light Level. If all your gear has 36 Light, or your gear adds up to 144 Light, you'll be level 32. 30/120 will put you at level 30. The gear itself won't be at its maximum light potential until you upgrade the gear by earning experience and buying the perks/defense upgrades. Vault of Glass exotics will only get you to level 30, the current vendor Legendaries will get you to 31, and Crota's End will get you to 32 (or you can substitute an Exotic armor).
Best source of legendary engrams/exotic items is the Weekly Nightfall strike, a level 30 weekly strike with 5 random difficulty modifiers that sends you to orbit if you fail. This almost always awards a Legendary item (although they can be materials to upgrade legendary items), but you may also end up with a random Exotic item instead.
This is followed by the Weekly Heroic strike (Lv. 24-30 options), which grants ?-9 Strange Coins a week. Strange Coins are used to purchase Exotic armor/weapons and supplies from Xur, a weekly vendor who shows up at a specific time every Friday/Saturday. You can find more specific times and his random location on Reddit but usually this thread will post it Friday morning.
Next is the Roc Playlist for strikes. This is level 26, and it rewards 2 or more Rare engrams every run, and sometimes Legendaries. Considering the rewards for the previous two options can only be gained once a week, the Roc Playlist is the king of Legendary engrams throughout the week, but your results may vary. The rest of the playlist difficulties follow this one in drop rarity.
There are 6 man raids in this game, which provide some of the best gear in the game. Each has its own exclusive vault armor and weapons. The raids can only be done once a week. Vault of Glass has level 30 gear, and Crota's End has level 32 gear. They both have chances to drop exotic weapons twice. Each has two difficulties, 26/30 for VoG and 30/32 for Crota's End. Sites like destinylfg.net will help you find others to raid with on the fly.
