thinking a pair of Nudie will be my next fit, seems like the Grim Tim is a nice fit

I only wear grim tim because thin finn is too tight/skinny and slim jim is not tapered. Be careful tho all my nudies fit different yet they are all the grim tim. 0]

Agreed. I've owned two pairs of Grim Tims and they both fit very differently.

Hmmm so I will be headed to self edge in SF to try some stuff on.

I've never tried raw denim before and it sounds like a commitment lol. So i think instead I am going to go for a pair that has been washed already.

Looking for:

-good quality selvedge material
-tapered fit with legs kind of like the 3sixteens i posted earlier st-130x
-comfortable and no sizing issues right from the start, so not looking at raw
-something that i can wear normally to work without wedgie or sagging issues

I am 5'10" 195. 33-34 waist with bigger thighs.

Will i still be able to get the pants to ruffle similar since the jeans will not be as stiff as raws?

Can anyone recommend good quality selvedge that has been washed? Not looking for stone wash just a light wash as i want to stick with dark blue.

Sorry for the life story, any recommendations appreciated.

Excited for my RGT to arrive today.

Hopefully the 16.75 oz. denim isn't too much for SoCal weather.

I'm not a denim expert by any stretch (I'm sure others can provide better information), but I know people that swear by PRPS--from what I've heard, it's good quality and made in Japan. However, I think they're primarily fans of the fades (they offer some extreme-yet-realistic fades). Might be worth checking out.

Edit: just read that you want something conservative for work.

I'm not sure self edge even sells washed denim.  Do you just not like the stiffness of raw denim? because you can just go low weight and do a preliminary soak to remove the starch.  Also iron hearts are supposed to have very soft but heavyweight denim.  If you're worried about sagging, get a nice belt if you don't have one already.

There are pbj no fades that will keep their dark color. (Pure blue japan) the pbj's are a little high in price though.

+1 for NF Weird Guys... I have rocked these for 7 months

I have the pure black versions and they're black as night still

My super skinny power black stretch come in today from Black Friday sales. :hat

copped a pair of wing + horn straigh jeans from gilt and they are going right back. I was told to size up because they are too small, I went up and they were still too tight. Good material though.

Seems like it's not that easy to find washed selvedge.

I don't want to deal with discomfort of raws. The fit and comfort are most important to me. Price matters too but I am okay spending 150 or more if they are nice.

I have tons of joe's, 7's, lucky and none of them fit right.

Anybody know how much 3Sixteen's "Shadow Selvedge" stretches?

Edit: nevermind, just saw that they will stretch a full inch on the website.

There's always apc. Nudies might do washed Selvedge, not sure.

That would explain it. Cause I went by the sizing of the new fit that unbranded gives on the site thinking they would fit perfect
as long as you can button the waist its fine.  everything else will stretch.

I was able to find the Gap Kaihara washed selvedge for the lows esp during their sale. I'll probably pick up another pair soon looking at prps and what not. Since your from Cali you should check out american rag they have a ton of washed selvedge instore and online but $$

So Apc doesn't sell any through their Butler program? Or instore exclusively?

I have a pair of washed Petit New Standards. They aren't selvedge, but the wash looked good enough in person for me to keep them (not cheap as light washes tend to look), and I am very particular in how light-washed denim looks.

I had a pair of John Elliott's in the Cast Coast wash. They were nice, and selvedge but the wash wasn't subtle enough, if that makes sense. Too much contrast in person.

I think the best option for me, and my next purchase will be the Acne Ace Light Vintage. Solely for the longer inseam.

I've been wearing Unbranded 21oz jeans for the past couple of weeks. I really like them.

Cheap too.

you should probably go to someone that has experience altering jeans and will fit them to your leg

arson09 arson09 you want jeans with a tapered hem. try apc petit standard. lots of brands have tapered fits now tho, others can tell you more

May be a silly question, but what exactly does one ask a tailor to do when getting a pair of jeans tapered? I only have one pair of jeans as a reference for about how small i want the opening, but even they are a tad bit too big.

A tailor will (should) tell you to put the jeans on and they'll pin them to your desired taper while they're on your body. They will most like start from just above the knee when tapering.

Before I knew the measurements of what I wanted I would take a pair of jeans I had already that fit me great. I would ask the tailor to pretty much duplicate the taper from that pair. Its really that simple. Don't be afraid to ask questions because you don't want them to destroy your jeans and you'll be rocking those fresh tailored jeans in a few days. Good luck.
