I hate pau. He is super soft and cant even post up a smaller players now. Would much rather have a tough, physical rebounding big who can hit the 20 footer (would kill for haslem)

Jodie Meeks should shine now.... Sooooo just look at that bright side.

Nash,Kobe,Metta, Pau, Dwight
Meeks, Hill

everyone else is expendable.... Need a better backup PG & backup SF/PF.

the only player i would trade pau for, would be kevin love.. no one else.. but again, it is a bad move hiring d'antoni.. because this is a half court team, not a run and gun team. showtime will never return to LA... people need to understand that.. but where you want to save kobe by cutting down his minutes and the injured players, you're gonna put them in a position where they play an uptempo style of offense.. it doesnt fit this team.

besides, like i said, i have rarely seen dwight howard make fast break dunks or points.. now d'antoni is gonna go away from the lakers strength, the post up game for a faster more explosive uptempo style of play, when he doesnt have the players and tools to do so.

and defensively, the lakers needed help, serious help.. phil jackson and his staff would help more than d'antoni. would preach defence. have a strong coaching staff to help defensively.. and on offense, the triangle would be the perfect system.. and for those saying the princeton offense didnt work, meant the triangle wouldnt work is just stupid.. the players need to buy into it and have the patience to get it done.. stick to the system..cause when kobe was young and shaq was there.. it took a while to learn the system.. but it resulted in 3 rings with shaq and 2 rings without him...

d'antoni's knicks were ranked last in every defensive catefory.. didnt they always say, offense wins games, defense wins championships? and how many championships does d'antoni have? exactly....

why would you not want phil take control of anything? he's a proven winner and has delivered 5 rings to LA.. and now the buss family is gonna act like they know better and go the opposite direction from what phil was gonna do? i'd let jackson do what he wanted, get the players he thinks would be good and take more responsibility... with his pedigree, you know he's not gonna screw up on purpose..

i feel really bad for kobe.. because instead of a chance of surpassing jordan in rings, i dont think he will get any more rings, simply because the coach is the wrong guy for the job.. the next 3 years, are gonna be a style of play that will not benefit the lakers..

im a big lakers fan.. but i have no trust in this move, just as much when brian shaw was surpassed by mike brown

No it's not.. Neither D'Antoni's nor Phil's system are perfect fits.. But D'Antoni's is much closer to the roster.. Also to think that D'Antoni will only run the Seven Seconds or Less is nonsense.

And why wouldn't I... Mitch & Jim have proven they are the best FO in the league.... No coach.. NOT A ONE should be in charge of personnel decisions while they are coaching.

I'll offer this additional critique that was scarcely mentioned -- he was playing the key players way too many minutes.

I'm going to punch the **** out of Hollinger some day. What a ******g tool bag. Scarcely mentioned? You mean, like, by every single Laker media member there is? You mean the thousands and thousands of Laker fans on Twitter screaming about it? :lol :lol

If it's not a stat sheet that fool don't know what's he's talkin about unless he's slobbing off the Spurs.

Scarcely. :lol

So glad we have some rationale Laker fans on NT, D'Antoni and Phil were both great hires. The Lakers did this hire right Jerry, Jim & Mitch unanimously agreed on it and consulted with several Laker players who also cosigned it especially if we get McMillan to handle the D. Phil agreed but wasn't thrilled about coaching again and with all of the demands that Woj confirmed opened the door for D'Antoni to kill the interview and get the job.

Rambis is saying that Phil was not asking for anything unreal and his agent was flying in today to talk salary.

The Lakers told Phil to think on it over the weekend, and they would meet Monday.

Then, the Lakers sign Mike late last night, before Phil could say anything.

If this is true, this is bad by us. Phil legit could have been the coach today, without unreal demands as some idiot "sources" are speculating. And the fact Mike gets 3 years/12 mil (4 per for you mathletes) tells me they saved themselves a ton knowing Phil would easily get 10-13 a year like he used to. They may have done this to save money, and not have to deal with Phil again.

That's bad business. And in that set up, would make me unhappy. If Phil said no, or did ask for the moon, ok, I'll live with Mike, but if Phil was coming, and wasn't asking for anything outrageous, then we made a bad move.

Just as you should understand that this will be a half court offense.

And make no mistake, this is mostly a halfcourt system. "Seven second or less" is a catchy name, but this system has more to do with drag screens for Nash and quick-hitting plays early in the shot clock than it does with players flying up and down the court in transition, especially if Leandro Barbosa and Shawn Marion aren't involved. Every one of D'Antoni's teams finished in the top 10 in pace, as have every one of Nash's teams, but it's been a long time since either led the league or even came close. With this roster, one shouldn't necessarily expect Showtime 2.0.

Enlarged for emphasis.

And how many rings does the Buss family have doing exactly what they're doing now? To say they're "acting" like they know what they're doing is flat out disrespectful. Phil has ZERO CHAMPIONSHIPS AS A GENERAL MANAGER and furthermore, Phil will never be the coach of the Lakers again. Some of us need to accept that and move on at this point.

I'm begging you guys, please stop saying run and gun. :lol

Amare Stoudemire was not out there running and gunning. The 05 Suns may have ran a lot with a much younger core, but after a few years they were a half court offense picking and rolling teams to death. See Martin Gortat or Ray Felton. They are not "run and gun".

Please, everyone, stop saying run and gun. That is not what Mike is preparing, please pay attention.

the reason no one wants a coach to take full control, is because that would make the expendable.. but we all have seen in the past that phil jackson knows what he is doing. i am thinking that phil also had something to do with the players that were signed during his stint and head coach..

and to say that d'antoni's offense is a better fit, i have to disagree..

considering his track record, you know he is not a defensive coach.. on offense it will be a run and gun style.. out of your starting 5, who can actually run like that? kobe? maybe nash? but since he is older i wouldnt count on it..

pau is not the fastest, neither is metta and i think you can count on 2 hands how many times howard had a fastbreak dunk in his career..

now you have 5 players who are not running out of the gym like russell westbrook, lebron james etc. but you're forcing them into a system that didnt work for other teams either.. look at the knicks, and the team he had in phoenix, joe johnson, leandro barbosa, steve nash, shawn marion, amare stoudemire, Q richardson... and it still didnt work.. cause he didnt play defense..

by not making use of the lakers strengths, i really dont see how this system is a better fit than phil.. where you would play triangle offense, let howard play the role of shaq.. nash the role of fisher, and the other three, kobe, metta, and pau in their regular spots... i think jamison would fit in seamlessly, because he is a smart player.. and just pound the ball inside, since you have 2 players of 6'11, hill is 6'10, clark is 6'10... i dont see how this offense would work though, with d'antoni, if he doesnt make the adjustments and it is a regular run and gun offense.

but you also have to realize that stoudemire didnt expand his game, and learned post up moves until after d'antoni left.. what does that tell you? that he was lazy, or that it wouldnt have mattered even if he had the post up game, since it was never used..

if the lakers win, i'll be the first to admit my mistake.. but until then, i will have my doubts..

The Buss Family became owners in 1979..... Celtics had 13 championships to Lakers 6.

Today it is 17-16.

You have never watched much Amare have you? :lol

Look up lazy in the dictionary, next to it, you'll see Amare. Right beneath No Defense, and loves to dunk in garbage time to get his stats up that don't count for a damn thing and then throw his shoulders back cuz he's now down by 8 instead of 10 with 11 seconds left in the game.

They should abreviate that. :lol

Over Pau

Nonsense
He is much cheaper. I'm not saying I would take Haslem for Pau straight up - just saying in this system, if I had a choice of taking Haslem for probably half of what Pau makes (too lazy to look up the numbers) I would do it.  Then with the rest of the money sign Jamal Crawford LOL

It's about a fifth.. And it's still nonsense.

no, but 5 of them came from phil..and didnt pat riley have more responsibilities than just a regular head coach when he won 4?

besides, it is not mitch kupchak and jerry buss that i am worried about.. it's jim buss.. the same guy that decided to go away from anything that phil jackson did and chose mike brown over brian shaw..
