DC Studios THREAD - GunnVerse Begins - The Penguin out 9/19 then every Sunday on MAX

Take with a grain of salt.

ThinkMcFlyThink are reporting that their Warner Bros. source (who told them about David Goyer writing the Man of Steel sequel and Gotham being developed for TV) has now given them an update on the casting process for Lex Luthor in Batman Vs. Superman. Denzel Washington (2 Guns) was apparently the top choice, although "nothing ever materialized", and Idris Elba (Thor: The Dark World) was considered before his deal with Marvel Studios put an end to that idea before it even really got started. However, one actor who has been approached is Arrow's David Ramsey. The site points out that this doesn't mean Luthor will definitely be played by an African American actor.

I always thought that if Will Smith actually wanted to put the effort in, he'd make a pretty good lex luthor. I am hoping its a black actor just to piss people off tho :lol

also Gal gadot imo is just bad casting but whatever. And joe is kinda right. I mean, if were gonna pick crappy actresses at least get carano

I thought Malcolm's dad was playing Luthor or did I miss something?

Stunt casting.. the dude they're rumored to be eyeing looks like he'd be a good Lex tbh

they might as well change the name to Superman: Trinity or something lol..

Some of you guys have to keep in mind that WW will likely appear as Diana Prince and make a 30 second cameo appearance in this film. Same can be said about Flash appearing as Barry Allen.

Some of you guys are going overboard w/o knowing much about the film, at this point, DC is probably just setting everything up for a future standalone WW/FLash film or the upcoming JL movie.

The stuff I'm hearing now is Gal is a bad actress so this movie aside she'll be bad for future WW movies regardless.

Wow @ the Flash showing up in this as well. Forget Trinity mighty as well call it MOS: Justice League.

Fixed.

I wonder how many members will be in the end credit scene? :lol

Other JL members making in a cameo appearance doesn't mean it's a JL movie. :lol

The fact that Batman is such a major role is a reason they shouldnt call it MoS anyway. Batman/Superman, Batman vs Superman, World's Finest were all better names from the start.

Superman can't even have a sequel all to himself. Everyone else will take all his shine away.

WB may as well just commit and make this a JL prequel where the main story is about how they meet and then just focus on their origin movies after. I mean, if you're gonna have all these characters, just go all out and make an awesome movie without having to worry about everybody's origins. I think this is why Avengers worked so well. You could've gone into that movie not knowing anybody's story but watching them in the movie made it clear what characteristics each character had.

At the moment, I'm more excited for Justice League: War than Man of Steel 2. Once a story is more clear that will probably change though.

Debatable.

[rant]My only argument against WB/DC, is that it seems like they think there's a shelf life for superhero films. It would almost behoove them to just let Marvel complete their Phase 2 and then start to ramp up their cinematic universe. I mean, WB/DC have creative rights to three of the greatest superheroes, ever. People will wait. Heck, even with a sub-par story in Man of Steel, a relatively new leading man, it still made over $650+ worldwide.[/rant]

People will not wait. These movies are for the casual moviegoer not the hardcore. They will eventually get bored the same way every otger genre goes in and out of style.

DC playing catch up to Marvel's Avengers at this point :{
I can kinda see what they're doing though.

Similar to Iron Man they're trying to springboard their shared DC cinematic universe with MOS but instead of end credit scenes they're going further and just putting the eventual spinoff solo franchises in to the sequels of Superman movies to possibly link back up later for a JL movie. Now I prefer the Marvel approach not just cuz it works but it's more seamless while keeping a strong connection with the build up.

It just makes me think though when they want to bring in GL, MM, and Aquaman are they going to be in the 3rd Supes sequel? Cuz that'd come off even more desperate.

Either way the race is still on to see who comes with the first diverse movie that's a hit. Whether it be racial or gender I think that could be the next thing they'll bank on despite all of them being ambitious to say they want it but tentative in not doing it until they feel they've got it right. PC stuff aside I can see a successful female or non-white superhero movie being a feel good thing ppl will praise since it hasn't happened on a big scale (Blade in this context is more like a pioneer).

Here's the thing, comic book films no longer have the stigma of being "just for kids." I hate to reiterate this, but The Dark Knight changed everything. Even though I absolutely hate the rule, TDK is one of the biggest reasons why the Academy increased their Best Picture pool from 5 to 10. Comic book and fantasy films are here to stay.

And IMO, if you're talking about supplemental characters, then yes, you have to strike while the iron is hot. If this was Blue Beetle, absolutely, get that film out ASAP. But Superman has been around for 75 years. Batman, 74 years. Wonder Woman, 72 years. These are iconic characters that are an indelible part of pop culture. There must be millions of people who know who Supes, Bats and WW are, without even picking up a comic book.

In the end, no matter how I or other people feel, I think we're all in agreement that we want a quality product. I'm just hoping that this route will facilitate that.

The Dark Knight didnt do it all by itself. 300 is just as important to this age of superhero flicks. The first spiderman trilogy also helped pave the way.

300 was never looked at in the same vein as "superhero films" mainly because it isn't one, it was rated R so it wasn't marketed towards children and it came out after Sin City so the general action movie goer was familiar with what to expect from a Frank Miller story... It isn't associated with something like Iron Man or Thor

TDK is undoubtedly the main reason for the expanded field (Wall-E too). They realized they screwed up by leaving out one of the biggest films of all time out the race and expanded the nominations to give these huge films a "chance" and boost ratings..

X-Men 1 & 2, Spider-Man 2 and TDK are the 3 most important Superhero films imo

come on dude. lets be real. I dont even mind affleck, but theres no way that casting Gal Gadot as anything but eye candy ( not for me) would work. Like shes only had a handful of lines in the fast movies.

Oh I was mainly saying about almost everyone saying that they should just call it a JL movie.

When it was first posted, I even said I wasn't sure of the casting but you know me, I'll wait til the film comes out before passing judgement.

With that said though, I feel WB/DC or Snyder could possibly hire someone hotter or with a bigger name. Hell they could hire Kate Upton and she looks more brolic than any of the chicks we have mentioned if they just wanted an eye candy, those bewbs would squeeze in perfectly in WW bustier. :lol In all seriousness though, I still think they saw something in her, you just never know after Ledger, Hemsworth, Craig, etc... hatred. I mean Gal Gadot is hot but I could probably name 10-20 other hot chicks that has no name or much fame tat I would deem hotter or sexie, I just think they could do better for someone who will simply be an eye candy.

One report floating around is that they are playing JL to be an international or universal group, Supes represents the whole world in general, Bats represents the US, WW represents the Middle East hence the Israel model hiring and even saying Flash would represent the Hispanic/Latino world by hiring one of that race. I personally find that report laughable though. :lol
