DC Comics Character to Come Out As Gay

DC Comics plans to reintroduce a character as gay, comic blog BleedingCool.com reports.

DC Comics co-publisher Dan DiDio announced the plans over the weekend at Kapow Comic Convention in London, saying that the existing superhero who was previously assumed to be straight will be "one of our most prominent gay characters." He did not specify in which issue the reveal will occur.

The news comes a year after DiDio told The Advocate that he only intends to introduce new characters in the DC universe as gay rather than make existing ones gay. Of the change in plans, DC Comics Senior VP Bob Wayne told BleedingCool.com that DiDio's view "has evolved," echoing President Barack Obama's recent endorsement of same-sex marriage.

The gay DC superhero won't be the first gay comic book character. In 2010, Archie Comics introduced gay student Kevin Keller, who later got married. Marvel Comics will reportedly feature the first gay superhero wedding between Northstar and his boyfriend in next month's issue of Astonishing X-Men.

thats actually pretty interesting. Comics have made pretty good headway towards being more relatable to the real world. I guess this was the next obvious step
I doubt it will be robin, being that the current Robin is Bruce Wayne's son, not the character that we all remember...Im going with Green Arrow

When I read stuff like this is when I begin to believe the conspiracy theories that this whole gay movement is being forced upon us and isn't growing "organically".
When did a comic book character's sexuality become that important to a story? Why does a character essentially HAVE to be gay now? I don't understand...

Agreed. Also, if you're assuming Robin, which Robin are you referring to? The current Robin is Bruce Wayne's son, Damien.
I don't think it's any of the main DC characters.

What's the point of doing it? Diversity

DC already has TONS of LGBTQ characters (Batwoman, Question, Obsidian, Mikaal Thomas, Apollo + Midnighter, Harley Quinn, etc.) they announced that a character (mind you, one that we haven't seen as Didido says they're re-introducing them so then it has to be a character that hasn't come back yet in the relaunch to draw new eyes in with speculation.

My guess would be Vibe. 
Also, Northstar is getting married in Astonishign X-Men? I thought Colossus was his lover but in the Ultimates universe?
