Stop making things awkward for yourself. She's a human being! Just start conversation & add in some mild-mannered insults, so she gets the friend vibe from you. That'll leave her wanting more cuz you're not throwing it in her face that you're interested.

You could recuperate from this. Next time you see her, sarcastically say something to the effect of "So I heard you like bowling. We should go sometime." Then if she says something to the effect of "I thought you said you didn't like bowling." Just be like "Nah, I don't know where you heard that. So we should..." and just keep it moving.
