Conan O'Brien -- Free at Last

It really doesn't matter what the executives at NBC say... there really is no one outside of NBC that sides with them or think they've been doing agood job. NBC has been a joke the past several years and it's been plainly evident through this whole ordeal.

The other networks are laughing at them, writers and actors don't like them because they took away 5 potential slots for dramas due to Leno's show, they've increased reality tv to cut costs, and now they've had an epic mishandling of one of the most iconic and famous shows of all-time, and this wasall their fault too and it was completely avoidable.

Top NBC executive #%%@ Ebersol blamed the network's late-night troubles on Conan O'Brien and called The Tonight Show host an "astounding failure," according to The New York Times.

Ebersol, the chairman of NBC Sports and one of the key executives involved in creating Saturday Night Live, accused O'Brien of not adjusting his style to appeal to broader audience when he took the reins of The Tonight Show in June.

Ebersol - who the paper says has long been involved in late-night decisions at NBC - said he met with O'Brien three weeks before O'Brien's move to 11:35 about how to expand his audience. O'Brien's camp confirmed Ebersol and O'Brien's meeting to the Times but did not say what was discussed.

Leno to Conan: "You're welcome"; monologue war continues

"I like Conan enormously personally," Ebersol told the newspaper. "He was just stubborn about not being willing to broaden the appeal of his show."

Ebersol also told the Times that O'Brien and others unfairly placed the blame on the new Tonight Show's poor performance in the ratings on The Jay Leno Show's poor showings at 10/9c. Specifically, he said Leno had smaller lead-in audiences than Letterman on CBS, yet Leno beat his Late Show competition at 11:35.

Ebersol, long known as one of the network's most aggressive negotiators, also famously clashed with several writers and cast members of Saturday Night Live in the early 1980s.

Conan still taping Tonight Show "until somebody tells him not to"

Ebersol also criticized O'Brien, as well as Late Show host David Letterman, for both hosts' remarks these week against Jay Leno and NBC. It's "chicken-hearted and gutless to blame a guy you couldn't beat in the ratings," Ebersol told the Times. "They're just striking out at Jay. It seems like professional jealousy."

Ebersol mentioned NBC Universal chief executive Jeff Zucker, who's widely believed to have played a key role in signing The Tonight Show over to O'Brien in 2009 as well as the attempt to push O'Brien back a half-hour to restore Leno to his old 11:35 time slot.

"Jeff and I are big boys," Ebersol said, referring to Zucker. "When we do something big in the public forum and it doesn't succeed, we know we'll be the butt of criticism."

Ebersol needs to stick to sports because blaming Conan is "chicken-hearted" when its obvious that NBC executives are the ones that are incompetent. Conan had bad ratings because NBC had Jay at 10 which bombed. NBC has no hit shows and only Football is saving the network.

For his part, O'Brien later joked about a porn film company offering him a role. "In the movieI'd be having sex with a beautiful woman and just as we're about to climax, I get replaced by Jay Leno," he said.

11:30 here.

Wow really? Is your news a hour and a half?

Yeah, 10-11 is the news and they have something called News Edge @ 11.

Damn, Jimmy Kimmel went in on Jay when he had him do the "10 at 10" or whatever its called. I'm suprised the live feed wasnt "lost"after he started roasting him.

I'm pretty sure that Leno / Kimmel skit was staged. They are all comedians, its there job to tell jokes and make people laugh.

Leno knew Kimmel was going to give him a hard time about the issue, but not to that extent. Which is why the last question mentioned the situation and Kimmeljust took it to another level. Kimmel talked about it in almost every question Leno asked him which made it

It didn't seem staged, did you watch it?

Besides its wasnt a skit, it was the 10 at 10 thing he does every night, plus at the end you can see Leno trying to finish real fast

doubt it was staged, you must not watch much Kimmel to know he's very blunt and quick witted , Leno obviously knew he was going to bring someheat but he didnt expect to be straight ethered and embarassed in front of his own crowd like THAT

Leno knew Kimmel would make fun of him, you can't ask Kimmel questions and give him all the power and not expect jokes back.

At this point it's clear Leno doesn't care what anyone thinks, he'll wait out the jokes and insults until he can get The Tonight Show back and hedoesn't care.

Latest news it looks like Conan and NBC are going to settle for an undisclosed amount, and most likely Conan will be free to pursue any other jobs he wantsimmediately.

FYI, the Hugh Grant incident didn't happen within Jays first 7 months...
