Computer P.S.A. (helpful programs, apps, and tips)

whenever i view something in .pdf format, and then try to close it, it takes forever for the tab/window to go away (around a minute). any suggestions?

I don't know if I should post this here or not but I'm gonna anyway.
I'm lookin for a computer in the $500-1250 range. With at least 2 gb and hyperthreading. Lightscribing would be nice if its Hp. I game a bit so a nice graphix car would be nice. I'm also lookin for something to view tv on and a monitor with dual screen. If this is the wrong place to put this just tell me and it shall be moved.

can some please help me. i use google and when im websurfing a pop up comes out and reads Shockwave Flash - the plug in performed an illegal operation you are strongly advised to restart firefox. my ? is where can i find the root of this problem, it always pops out when i am online ?
 
^just run adaware and also spybot and you should be fine. also, download the "noscript" extension off the firefox website to make sure that popups and non-wanted java apps don't run when you don't want them to.

Hey guys,

Im having a problem with my sound. I can hear sounds from video players like windows media player, winamp, etc. but i cant hear sounds like aim ( sometimes ) window sounds ( like starting up, etc ) sounds on websites that use flash, myspace sounds... so pretty much only thing that works is sound players..

any help? thanx :-)

okkk so i updated my itunes to 7.0 and now it was an error and i cant open my itunes. Is there away of me opening my itunes without uninstalling it and losing all of my songs on there??? thanks in advance
 
I'm thinkin about upgraging to Windows Vista but how do I uninstall XP
Also when I romove my desktop icons my background becomes stretched.

You don't lose your songs when you uninstall iTunes. When you reinstall it'll search for all your music files and add them to your library.

You have to format the partition that Windows XP is on, which means that you will lose everything you have on it. Or you can use a dual boot, which is what I do.

^ Songs that you added by a CD are on your computer. When you click "Rip CD", it copies the songs from the CD and puts them on your computer.

They should be in C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music

I bought a LCD monitor off craigslist yesterday. When I hooked it up to my desktop last night, it was very very dim. I hooked up a CRT monitor to see if could change the settings of the LCD but had no luck. What could be the problem.

The person I bought the monitor from won't be back til Sunday/Monday. What could the problem(s) be? Would it be an easy fix?

I need help converting a XviD file to AVI

Which is what I think I want to do...My end goal is to make a DVD, but I think I have to change the XviD format or something? Someone help me out, thanks!
 
I just got the new iTunes this week and I finally updated the software to my ipod and it says one of my videos (which I purchased from their itunes store) can't be put on my ipod because it doesn't support that format. I had it on there until I updated the software. Does anyone know whats up with that and how I can fix it?

yeah i have AVI files for days movie, tv shows, anime, etc what GOOD program can i use to convert AVI in DVD format OR even VCD.

Yo whats up NT..I'm sure this question has been asked plenty of times before and I'll probably be flamed for asking it, but for the sake of my time (seeing that I have a paper due in 2 days) I can't search through every single page of this thread. I'm wondering, for my laptop, is it good to leave it on for extended periods of time, let's say 2-3 days, or is it good to turn it off on a daily basis, or is it bad to leave it on in general? I ask this because I know laptops have the tendency to overheat. Thanks ahead of time.

^it's a good habit to turn off your computer daily. you save your laptop screen from burning out (unless the screen is turned off), and save your fan from overworking and in general prevent early death of your laptops.
