...

Would be a great pull for the X men...

Drew Lavender did them very well as a transfer

Yea, Curtis is out and Wiggins is on the fence. Stanley Robinson and Jerome Dyson were thinking of transferring but the rest of the guys convinced themotherwise.

He needs to stay there...Calhoun will put him in the NBA.

Dyson, ehh...almost surprised he wasn't shown the door.

Crean era to begin with a cleanup

SAN ANTONIO - One day Tom Crean will laugh about all this. It will be the ideal opening chapter for a book.

About how he is a recruiting tornado who accepted the men's basketball job at Indiana University knowing he cannot recruit anybody with a visit, phone call or a wink across the gymnasium until at least Aug. 1.

"I had to chew on that one for a pretty good while," Crean said during a breakfast meeting with four writers yesterday.

About how he cannot give you even the beginnings of a list about which players will be on his first IU roster. Five guys? Ten guys? Three guys?

What's the problem? Crean isn't certain how many players are leaving, how many will not survive academically or how many recruits will make it to Bloomington.

"There's a lot of uncertainty in our roster," he said. "I'm going to listen and try to learn. Then you have to trust your instincts and leadership decisions."

Here is what Crean does know: that a number of his IU players are in serious academic trouble. That he is leaving San Antonio this morning to begin the work of fixing that tomorrow.

That Armon Bassett, one of the starters dismissed from the team by interim coach Dan Dakich last week, has called to ask about reinstatement. But Jamarcus Ellis, the other dismissed starter, has not.

That Crean understands that however he decides to proceed with Bassett and Ellis, somebody is going to howl and call him too soft or too unyielding.

That Crean considers Bob Knight a friend and that the school is interested in reaching a détente with its Hall of Fame former coach.

"He knows I respect him tremendously," said Crean, who has kept notes from a Knight coaching clinic he attended when he was 19 years old. The two were also guests of St. Louis Cardinals' manager Tony LaRussa at spring training in Florida last year.

And that despite all those issues, Crean is convinced Indiana remains a job where he can do special things.

"It's going to be great," he said. "When? That's not relevant yet. But it will be. First we have to get things in order academically fast."

It appears that former IU coach Kelvin Sampson and his staff were as committed to enforcing classroom attendance as they were to keeping track of their recruiting phone calls. Players sometimes balked when they were told to run as punishment for breaking rules.

After Dakich took over Feb. 22, the interim coach tried to improve discipline. But the word is that when Dakich told one player that he wouldn't play because the kid cut class, the player replied with a text message saying he had not been punished the previous time he cut class.

"What I have to find out is who is serious about working hard, who has the motor to work the way we're going to work," Crean said. "That will be the eye-opener now."

Will that include Ellis and Bassett, the only potential returning starters?

Know this: At Marquette, Crean worked vigorously to recruit Bassett out of Terre Haute South High School. He thinks Bassett can play. But he thinks behaving as if you realize playing Division I basketball is a privilege is more important.

"I'm certainly not going to disrespect any decisions that were made before I got there," Crean said.

One day this will make quite a book.

Couple of OSU rumors...

They are ready to place a call to Bill Self later this week, and offer him a contract with in excess of $4 million annually with a $6 million signing bonus.

Plan B could be Tubby Smith.

Either way, both would be strong hires for the Pokes...

Interesting, my question would be can a coach leave a week after winning a tittle....

If Self is gona ever leave, this is the job and time you would think though....with potentially that whole starting 5 leaving

News surfaced Sunday that they've discussed the opening with former Kansas, UCLA and NBA coach Larry Brown. The hire would be a great one - and, heck, theCowboys may not have to shell out as much money to get him.

LB would be a good hire, but I really think they need to get someone who wants to be there for the long haul. Realistically, how long can you count onLarry Brown? 2, maybe 3 years at the most? They'd be in this same situation all over again. And he's long removed from the college game. He's agood coach, but I think OSU needs to think long-term.

Yeah, he's looking at losing Arthur, Kaun, Rush, Chalmers, Robinson, Jackson... Plus whatever other SRs they have...

Other than Sherron and Cole Aldrich, there ain't gonna be much left after this year...

mike and the maddog just mentioned tht gillepsie is unhappy with kentucky and the pressure he's been under and could be on the move to oklahoma st isnteadof self

I was just listening to that too...
I take everything Franseca says with a big grain of salt....always wants to look like he's in the know when hereally isn't

Don't think Billy Clyde is leaving Kentucky... I think he knew exactly what he was getting into when he took that job, and I don't think he's gonnawalk away from it after just one year...

But if he does...

the pressure he's been under? he got a pass this season, and even after the season we had...the fans (including myself) LOVE him.

i wish that mother ****@# would leave Kentucky for OSU.

^ i was just about to post that.

seems like mississippi state has had an unusual amount of transfers in the offseason the past couple of years. last year we lost 4 players, including the delktwins. this year, ben hansbrough announces a transfer out of the blue. he was a sophomore starter getting plenty of playing time. i saw an article where hementioned "not fitting in" and wishing we had better practice facilities.... c'mon now. i don't believe that for a second. makes me wonder ifsomething else is going on, possibly with coach stansbury. he's a good recruiter, but us fans are ready for the next level.

Oklahoma State will pay Sean Sutton $2.7 million over 10 years as part of a settlement reached with the former basketball coach who resigned under pressure last week.

Oklahoma State will pay Sutton $300,000 immediately and the remaining $2.4 million during the next 10 years. Sutton will receive the money even if he gets another job.

Xavier point guard Drew Lavender
was arrested for disorderly conduct and possession of marijuana.

Police said they arrested the 23-year-old Lavender early Sunday morning. According to the report, Lavender was drunk and disorderly after they asked him several times to move out of a street intersection.

Cincinnati police said they searched Lavender and found marijuana on him. He was released on $2,000 bond. The 5-foot-7 point guard averaged 10.8 points and 4.5 assists.

Wow... those figures are ridiculous. How could you not take accept that amount of $$ to go back to the school where you balled at and graduated from?

gas is going to be $10/gallon if that goes thru.

in other OSU news:
Eddie Sutton considers pulling name from Oklahoma State's court

Cowboys' former coach says he's disappointed that OSU forced out his son last week.

SAN ANTONIO - Eddie Sutton said Monday he is disappointed his son Sean was forced to resign as his successor as Oklahoma State's basketball coach and will consider whether he wants his signature to remain on the Gallagher-Iba Arena court that was named in his honor in 2005.
Sean Sutton was forced out a week ago after compiling a 39-29 record in two seasons. He played point guard for the Cowboys for his father and served as an assistant coach on the elder Sutton's staff for 13 years.

"He certainly was instrumental in the success we had, as a player and to assist me all those years," Eddie Sutton told the American-Statesman on Monday. "That was the only thing that disappointed me. He won 39 games in two years."

Eddie Sutton, who said he has yet to talk to OSU athletic director Mike Holder about Sean Sutton's removal, added he isn't sure he wants his name to remain on the court where he played under legendary Henry Iba and then served as head coach from 1990 to 2006.

"That's something I'm going to think about," said Eddie Sutton, who coached the Cowboys to the Final Four in 1995 and 2004 before stepping down during the 2005-06 season after an alcohol-related driving arrest.

Eddie Sutton, who said his interim job this season at the University of San Francisco is his last coaching post, declined to say if he believed his son received a raw deal from Oklahoma State. But he did say Sean Sutton is OK.

"He's a tough kid and he's a very, very good basketball coach," Eddie Sutton said. "He'll get back in the game."

he has every right to be pissed off but it was his fault that his son was put into that position so quickly

i have to agree with eddie though i think sean was shafted a little and if it wasn't for kansas' success eddie's kid will still be there

on a sidenote did self take the offer for certain? because i heard this morning he wanted to stay in kansas and wanted security
