Saw this last night. Didnt read much of the previous posts, but maybe you guys can clear up something for me.
So at the end, both Plan A and B actually worked?
Great movie, great visuals, needs more character work though. I will rewatch soon.
Watch it on 70mm IMAX if you have one near you. Looks amazing...
I've been hearing how good this movie is from my friend. visuals look amazing, hopefully i can check it out this week

1. Quantum theory and relativity physics are the two main theories of how reality works but they don't mix with each other, apparently gravity is the sticking point.
Eisenstein tried to combine physics and quantum mechanics into one unified theory, he failed to do so before he died. Scientists have been trying ever since, one theory is that there are actually 5 dimensions instead of four. 5th dimension being space-time. So coop got sucked into a black hole and was sent into a 5th dimension made of time, where I guess he could effect our observable dimension with gravity. ie sending the coordinates or hitting the books.
2. The people who sent the messages to coop closed the 5th dimension and sent him back to our dimension where someone would come and pick him up, since time is relative lots of time has passed since he sent that message but he was only in that dimension for a short period of time.
3. I thought it was humans in the distant future (Anne Hathaways colony ) who have completely figure out quantum mechanics and physics and are so advanced they can effect space time. and create worm holes. since they did that they figured they go and save more people by saving the people on earth by leaving the worm hole there and I guess since time is relative he is just getting sucked into the black hole, they can save coop, get him to transmit the data.
worm hole is the purely theoretical thing in the film, it's never been obsrved so humans/they would have to create it.
Posted cause I like the thought. Credit to rocketjudoka on the clutchfans.net forums.
The more I think about the movie the more I like it. While the "love" speech by Hathaway was clunky the more I think about it the more important I think it is to the story.
Since the future humans know that Cooper and Murphy are vital to the survival it makes sense that they manipulated things so that they did save humanity. To borrow again from DS9 this is a prophecy paradox. At beginning since this story is about them we know that those two are crucial for the survival of humanity. In other words the prophecy is they save us and are given mysterious and miraculous clues to guide them. It is later revealed how it was done involving the manipulation of time by Cooper in the relatively near future (within decades of the start of the story), seeming to fulfill the prophecy. Except at the end of the movie the prophecy hasn't been completely fulfilled. There still is the element of far distant future humans who can construct the Tesseract and wormhole to make the manipulation of time possible. So even though Cooper has saved humanity at the end of the movie there is an unknown amount of time between then and when future humans can build wormholes and tesseracts it still is a prophecy that has yet to be fulfilled. Once humans advance to that point only then do they fulfill the prophecy by making it possible for events in the past to unfold that way.
This is why love becomes critical to the story. Presumably the far distant future humans could've manipulated things so that Mann, Miller, or Edmonds (the other astronauts who first went through the Wormhole) saved humanity yet it was Cooper who did. What made Cooper different than any of those other astronauts was that he had a family and a very strong attachment to this daughter. Mann's crazy ramblings about the survival instinct when it came to family actually mattered as it meant that only an astronaut like Cooper would be willing to make the sacrifices required to save humanity since he wasn't acting in the abstract but for his daughter, but also have a strong enough tie back to his daughter to reach back from the future. It was because Cooper and Murphy loved each other enough that they could both contact and understand each other across time whereas two people who didn't have as strong of a tie might not have been able to. In that sense love really was quantifiable as love was what brought the adult Murphy back to her old room and to find the watch while it was love that allowed Cooper to understand how the Tesseract worked by trying to send the earlier message to Murphy to tell his past self to stay.[/spoller]
Relativity ...Energy can not be created or destroyed.Matthew McConaughey be like....

I hate the word, but this song and the scene that it's from is epic.
Apparently it's not even on the OST (a diff version without the organs is) so this guy mixed a few different songs to make it.
lol at not even comparing thoI saw it on 70mm and still didn't like it.
Lol at you comparing a squashed out stream on your smart TV to full scale IMAX tho
Saw it last night with the lady. Didn't have any real expectations going in, but I enjoyed it. A lot. Made me think. Especially the ending. Him being the "ghost" the whole time kind of tripped me out.
Ive seen it twice. 2nd time was after reading some posts in here trying to explain thing.
What im still confused on:Ending was rushed, as i said before i would have sat there another 30-45min for a more detailed ending. But i guess it was left like that for debate1. The whole tesseract and 5th dimension, just over my head i guess
2. What exactly was wrong with the water planet with the huge waves? Was it nothing but water? Or cuz of the gravity and time slippage of 1hour = 7 years
3. The end .. what the hell is goin on. Brandt started a new colony, was Edmonds alive? What were all the diff tents for?
4. Were we watching the movie in the present past or future? Or a mix of all of it. Which then created the alternate future on Cooper Station
5. What happened to his son? He really wasnt concerned if he made it or not. So did Murph hook up with the doctor to make a that family in her room. Still baffles me none of the fam nor MM were interested in each other.
