Mochas never had hype. They had a nice simple colorway but people weren't dying to have brown shoes. People still aren't really trying to buy brown shoes unless you get mad celebs wearing them and make them limited. I always liked Mochas but never got them.

People getting robbed for jordans doesn't mean people were into sneakers like that. Clearly jordans were popular, but aside from those same originals people got robbed for a majority of the publics interest in sneakers was very casual.

The "sneaker head" culture hit its peak around 2010-2012.
That's when EVERYBODY was a "sneakerhead".
It's also when social media really took off. And IG started popping.
The bubble is slowly coming back to normal....where it's more of a "niche" thing and people are casual about sneakers.

The further you go back in time, the less people you will find that were " in" to sneakers.
There used to be more rules around who could wear what.
If you were not really into basketball, you would actually think " god if I spend 100 $ on these jordans, people are going to think im a total poser"
Now people post 100 selfies , of every color of everything they bought..... its cool if they couldn't touch the basket if they fell off a ladder but " who cares bro, quit bein a hater, you just jelly etc etc etc"

Cats were into kicks but A LOT of parents were reluctant to shell out $125+ on shoes. That sparked outrage. I remember my Dad hated the fact that my moms would drop $150 on my shoes.
