Black Culture Discussion Thread

Women engage in DV at equal or higher rates than men.

Lesbian relationships are reported to be the most violent.

Nothing that young man said was wrong.

Dude with the spatula is gaslighting.

The knee-jerk reaction to choose a side when it comes to DV is a classic example of propaganda and brainwashing.

I honestly wonder how much of the BLACK gender wars takes place off-line. I would say this has been one of the many negative effects of social media.

(Yes, Relationship issues are a human thing)

i’d say the ‘gender wars’ (black or otherwise) definitely takes place ahht in the world…just not as confrontational or trolling, but trust & believe that men & women do see the world & think differently (even as more folk are being raised, particularly in black community, in single mother households apart from their fathers); the space between these viewpoints is part of the catalyst for ‘the gender war’ such as it is, both online & in meatspace…

no one really has these types of discourses earnestly & honestly because they can be uncomfortable & cause needless issues, most people are just going about their day(s) to get along & are not going to argue about these things mostly agreeing to disagree in the best case & worse assuming or even feigning congruence, especially as the people that are even willing to converse about this stuff usually are already close/familiar & not strangers w/an axe or agenda to grind….that noted tho if you do press the line on some of these type topics amongst associates, family, and/or friends you will discover that seemingly rationale folk have all manner wild misconceptions/rationales that mirror online talking points…

so while it’s easy to dismiss the online stuff as ‘just online’ and undoubtedly the internet & social media has exacerbated & expanded the ting, make no mistake that things were already trending in this direction through a confluence of other factors…add to that most people are not very informed about what’s is going on ahhtchea beyond what’s in their awareness/interest/proximity/vicinity and deal with the ting as it comes

Not Funny No GIF

Graduation is a celebration, not much “respectabilities” involved.

Comments like THIS is how and why we have ghetto representation and videos like this below that shows how bad the black community is right now. No self-respect and or pride whatsoever.

What's wrong with this video? Why they gotta be ghetto and have no self respect? That's a hot take for some people who are excited about graduating.

Eh -

Some may believe that a commencement ceremony should reflect the educational achievements of / demonstrate the school's preparation of its students to enter the workforce, the next stage of their education, or, at the very least, a student's ability to exercise good judgment.

As such, a lack of maturity and composure during such ceremonies indicates the quality of said education/preparation/judgment.

Sorta like we wouldn't expect Simone Biles to dougie up to the Olympic podium to accept her medals, but touchdown celebrations are (within limits) acceptable.

Time and place.

It's a reflection of the school, parents, and students themselves.

"You can pay for school, but you can't buy class."

If someone or something has class, it means they are elegant and sophisticated. Composed of high standards.

A class clown / a class of clowns = no / low class.

Basically:

I don't care either way, I'm going to Canada with Dr King.

Having a full blown party like THAT @ the actual graduation ceremony is perfectly fine??? Yea ok.

Like I said, you got certain folks that will find a way to defend ANY type of behavior under the guise of it being "Black Expression." Why does THAT have to be black expression? Why do we HAVE to agree black expression has to be this classless, tasteless, undisciplined brand of behavior?

Oh yea I know, it can't be because we don't want white people to judge us becausw they hold the exclusive rights to class/decorum. 😏

That's why respectability politics is the dumbest nonsense ever.

It was never about race in the first place.

People have always separated themselves IAW their cultures, customs, and beliefs.

Why do you think Africa is so diverse?

It wasn't until rich European colonizers invented "race" that this changed...yet those same rich European colonizers seemed to retain their "class" just fine.

Why is that?

Perhaps their class is dependent on our race?

Anyways...

E. Franklin Frazier gave the best explanation I've heard in his book, "Black Bourgeoisie."

@ The title of that video, is exactly how I feel. I get sick of that nonsense man.

Why does THAT stuff have to be what's deemed as "Black Culture?" If Meg tweaks @ Kamala's rally and folks speak out against it, why are THOSE people viewed as being the ones denying black Culture.

It's so famn backwards sometimes man.

I truly don't get it.

I could care less about it all at this point. It’s the point of no return.

Look at the music nowadays. Look at the parents.

The whole WORLD is ghetto at this point. :lol :lol :lol

The difference is, our parents, grandparents, etc taught us about our history, values, etc.

These modern day parents are CLUELESS. A lot of people in their 30s and early 40s who are parents, are complete idiots. They don’t teach their kids any values

But why are they clueless? Our parents/grands/greats passed it down. What happened? Where's the disconnect?

That's what we gotta get to.

And honestly, you got to watch those "white allies" too because they are also very loud in the , "Hey she can tweaks in stage with the president if she wants to" camp. Knowing damn well they wouldn't want/allow their kids to act the same.

It's just funny to me that we fight to have the right to be degenerate and then act like non-degeneracy is monopolized by the white man.

Thet are that way because being stupid and clueless is in champ. It’s the way to go for a lot of black folks these days.

Just like how I say ALOT of black teens are VOLUNTARILY signing up for jail. Folks want to be clueless and classless.

africa is diverse, and colonization definitely created a lot of problems by not only its generalized grouping of race but its ignorance of the indigenous tribal affiliations and creation of arbitrary borders & nations…

that noted i’m not sure that the diversity & separation in africa is related to the contents of the vid, if that was even intended?

for what it is worth, i can understand how some of the assertions in the video with reference to that book could make sense but 🤷🏿‍♂️ much of it seems a bit myopic in that it seems to go in & out of mentioning the larger context of the minority status & what was going in american culture at large…

in regards to the zealousness of celebration(s) at graduation(s), while i definitely think the posted ones are over the top…i don’t really have much thoughts about it either way, some culture, peoples, individuals are more celebratory than others and i don’t really think there is anything that sacred and/or special about graduations; they are literally spectacle (now add the layer that technology & awareness of social media on top) i get that there is a certain expectation & decorum to them but i don’t know if it really matters much

I could care less about it all at this point. It’s the point of no return.

not sure how old you are but i’m guessing you’re not that old 😂…i disagree with all of your assertions, whether those that preceded us taught about history, values, etc. & to what degree & how much that actually even matters is hard to even (in)validate either way…if people are ‘clueless’ it has more to do with how maybe some traditional beliefs & values are not necessarily in alignment with how the world has & is changing

But why are they clueless? Our parents/grands/greats passed it down. What happened? Where's the disconnect?

That's what we gotta get to.

the question is disingenuous at best…

i don’t think that being ‘stupid & clueless’ has ever been in, but there definitely is & has been an anti-intellectual bent to public discourse for, arguably, the inception of this country…i don’t think anti-intellectualism & cluelessness/ignorance/stupidity are the same tho

As the video points out, both house negros and field negros adapted to their respective environments.

That's why "respectability politics" is such an insult.

No group of humans is immune to conscientious stupidity or willful ignorance.

Yet when it comes to Black people in the US, we are constantly held to our lowest common denominator like no other group on the planet...even by Africans.

Everyone loves to point at the crabs in the barrel and offer an opinion on why they behave the way they do while doing their best to be accepted by those who made the barrel, caught the crabs, and put them there.

FYSA - the barrel/barrel makers still exist - they're only gotten better at hiding in plain sight.

I just watch this video and expected twerking. No its that dance from Louisiana(idk whats its called) that, honestly, I see more white people doing than anything else.
