Black Culture Discussion Thread

Let's just say BHM gets wiped out, I guess corporations would be off the hook in having to pretend/fake like they give a damn during the month of February.

It would affect schools more than anything because that's when a lot of the content gets pushed and you know "certain folks" wouldn't think about speaking on those matters anytime outside of February.

I could be wrong but I don't think they will be that overt with their racism to eliminate BHM. I see them barely acknowledging it or ignoring it's existence entirely. Also I don't think they see BHM as a threat.

But like I said, I could be wrong and I do think they're racist as well.
I think a few agencies are cancelling observances of BHM. It looks like The Pentagon put out memo on that. Includes Pride Month and Holocaust Remembrance Day

I doubt they’ll try to get rid of the official acknowledgements or Holidays, just sanctioned activities at work.

Depends on the demo of the school you're in it will barely get acknowledged as well.

I've been in schools that did events, threw parties, and went all out and others you just get an announcement of a random fact on the PA each morning

My workplace has always been schools so I have no idea how these days are recognized in a workplace that isn't an educational environment.

How does that look?

I know some people were asking for this earlier in the thread:

Only because I know some kids act a fool even though they come from families that do things the right way, I'm on the fence. I get what they are intending to do in theory though and I'm not mad at it.

You’ll never be able to write a law that fits every unique situation. I think generally speaking, parents should be accountable for their child’s actions.

Also I think we’re way too quick to define “good home” as just anybody whose parents have good jobs and a nice house. There are upper-middle class kids with abusive, drug addicted, or emotionally absent parents which is why they be acting a fool.

Its impossible to measure, but I’d bet the % of kids acting up who come from legit good, loving, supportive homes is low.

You'd typically have employee resource groups (ERGs) throwing events and inviting others to attend. I've seen potlucks for ethnic celebrations like Diwali. Speaker panels for BHM and Pride Month. Full on Dance performance for Chinese New Year. The first time I learned about Juneteeth was when I lived in Houston and the Black employee resource group through a celebration at work.

Yall = Whoever voted for him. If you fall in that group cool., I mean. If not, COOL.

How is it finger pointing when that's exactly HOW he got elected?

Say that then, but Im talking about that, "It was black men that didnt vote", 'It was the Hispanics", ect ect. What is any of that doing to do other than divide the conquered even more? Unfortunately, as much as we don't like it, in reality it closer to "US" than "Yall", because you live here too. A majority of a group, you're still part of, voted for the Trump(allegedly). If I dared fixed fingers to type "L-E-A-V-E", you'd swear it was a grand affront. The US is the Florida of the world. You can disassociate all you want but zoom out, widen the perspective you look like a dumb too. Finger pointing aint the play in no way, shape, fashion or form. B*******ness, aint gonna bring anyone back to the light, thats what pushed them over to that side in the first place.

Genuine question, how do you even get people to see the light when we live in a society where folks will deny facts just because it doesn’t fit their narrative?

Like I could send someone 12 different studies from all over the world showing vaccines are effective and someone will respond with “They’re all in the pocket of big pharma. DrSebiIsGod.com said 75% of kids who get vaccines develop autism”

I’m not suggesting insulting ppl is an effective strategy, but I don’t know how you reason with people who don’t read and have zero discernment about where they get information from.

First of all, most importantly. You can't save everybody. Some folks just aint gonna make it to the promise land. Straight up. Secondly, one can't live in a fantasy land forever. Eventually reality is going to kick in the door. Its probably gonna take awhile for these folk as I feel they probably haven't looked back at the news or politics since January 20th. All you can do is be a leader. Lead by an example, make your point but don't be annoying or combative, be a good *** person regardless of the social/political climate and CONTROL YOUR EMOTIONS. I mean, if you knew a guy that was just a stand up guy 100% and you two disagreed on something, even if its major, you'd at least hear him out, right? And no one is going to give a damn about what "The King of Petty" got to say. I feel like the internet left did more work for the Republicans than the Republicans by acting basically better than folk. I think a lot of people wasn't voting for a president, they we just voting AGAINST other people. They were voting against "those ***holes on FB". The were voting against that smart *** at work. They were voting against that girl that started screaming in Wal Mart. If these people aren't taking the time to....do their own research.....even though we vilified the entire concept of such just five years ago...what are they basing their votes on? 9 time out of 10, its feelings. Don't let anyone feel the need to go against what it is you're standing for.

Definitely more of a step in the right direction. For me though i would like to see more punishment for the parents……rather the parent in cases that involve the child committing a felony. One of the biggest if not the biggest problems in our community right now is violence, especially juvenile violence. More and more kids are committing felonies and it’s only going to get worse. Like this case below where 3 brothers killed a 14 year old. The parent of these kids should be held accountable as well and locked up with her sons….she’s responsible as well.

Clearest version I've seen on YouTube.

HBO Doc from back in the day.

Aundrey Burno, a black youth looking down the wrong end of a murder charge -- for which a conviction could result in a lifetime in prison -- appears to be the epitome of an unrepentant thug. Speaking to viewers, he claims to have done whatever was necessary to survive on the mean streets, to earn the respect of his criminal peers. But as his case progresses and his younger brother, Kevin, faces the same choices he did -- to become a thug or not -- a very different Aundrey reveals himself.

Again, I don’t date outside my race but I’m not heavily invested into anyone’s persons lives anyway. I don’t have kids, but of COURSE they’d be taught that black is beautiful and to never feel inferior. I would raise them to date black and of course I’d be disappointed if they didn’t bring home a black woman.

But adults have free will

Never fails.
