Ghana, Jamaica waive visa requirement for citizens

President Akufo-Addo and Jamaican Prime Minister, Andrew Holness

Effective July 1, Ghanaians and Jamaicans can travel to and from each other's country without a visa.

This was agreed to after presidents of the two countries held bilateral discussions in Kingston, Jamaica, on Saturday.

The meeting was part of President Akufo-Addo’s two-day official visit to the Caribbean country.

Stressing the importance of Ghana-Jamaica relations, the President said the two nations have an excellent opportunity to building on their strong ties, imposed by culture and history, so as to derive maximum economic value for their respective populations.

“We cannot have visas standing in the way of those relations, so the decision has been taken by my government that, as Ghanaians benefit from visa-free arrangements here in Jamaica, we are also going to provide visa-free arrangements for Jamaicans in Ghana,” he said.

He told the Jamaica Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, that the move will facilitate and also make it easier for Jamaicans to come to Ghana and join the ‘Year of Return.’

With the two leaders pledging to reactivate the Ghana-Jamaica Permanent Joint Commission for Co-operation, which has been dormant for some time, President Akufo-Addo explained that, when properly structured, the Commission will serve as a legal framework for the doing of business between the two countries.

“Now, it has come to the time to give teeth to those relations by making sure the various areas of engagement in education, tourism and cultural activity are specifically tied down.

“That is really my purpose of coming here, apart from a mission to sensitize you in Jamaica about an event that we are commemorating this year,” he added.

Year of Return

Describing Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade as a “horrendous episode of human history”, President Akufo-Addo explained that Ghana is keen on commemorating this event, largely because a large number of slaves came through slave forts located in Ghana. “We want to commemorate it, to be able to say together that never again will Africa and her people permit themselves to be subjugated to these types of dehumanizing and inhumane events. Never again!” he added

The President continued, “At the same time, we want to use the symbolism of this year to take concrete steps to solidify the relations of our kith and kin in the Americas and the Caribbean.

“The relationship that we are forming here in Jamaica will form part of the process of solidifying the relations between those of us on the continent of Africa and those of you in the diaspora, outside Africa.”

His visit to the Caribbean, the President said, has been to “strengthen the relations across the water, and build the bridge that we have to build over the Atlantic so that we could find a way of strengthening each other in growing and empowering our economies, to play a more and more critical role in the new global architecture that is being drawn up now. We are going to have relations that are intimate.”
This is a fantastic step. Next up, we need to get Haiti involved in something like this. All Caribbean nations should be looking into this connection as well.

We have more melanin, which means our bodies evolved to protect us from solar radiation.

Also

Eyes with very little melanin in the iris are blue. Eyes with a bit more melanin are green, hazel or light brown. And those with a high concentration of melanin are medium or dark brown.

If you have brown eyes, you'll be happy to know that researchers have found the higher melanin content in your eyes is associated with a number of health benefits.

People with brown eyes may be less vulnerable to certain diseases. For example, people with brown eyes appear less likely to develop age-related macular degeneration than people with light-colored eyes.

Also, people with brown eyes have a lower risk of type 1 diabetes and melanoma of the eye, compared with individuals with light blue eyes.

And research at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London suggests individuals with blue eyes have a higher risk of hearing problems caused by environmental noise pollution compared with coworkers with brown eyes. The study authors felt melanin pigment may help protect nerves in the brain from noise-induced damage.

Also

Did you know that having brown eyes may make you appear more trustworthy?

In research performed in the Czech Republic , university students were asked to look at photographs of 80 fellow students (40 males and 40 females, ages 19 to 26 years). Participants in the study were asked to rate the photographed students for trustworthiness on a 10-point scale.

The students who were photographed were told to assume neutral, non-smiling expressions and not to wear any makeup or jewelry. All photos were cropped so that the eyes were always horizontally at the same height with a standard length of neck visible. Only photos of individuals with blue eyes or brown eyes were used in the study. Photos of students with hazel or green eyes were excluded.

Results of the study revealed that people with brown eyes were perceived as significantly more trustworthy than those with blue eyes.

We have adapted to earth more than pale people.

Pale people have also contributed the most to the destruction of the earth (China invented gun powder, Germans and Americans invented nuclear weapons, China breeds more and pollutes more. The U.S. and Russia created the most nuclear weapons. The U.S. is the worlds biggest arms dealer. The black plague was born among filthy Caucasians in Europe).. the list goes on.

-the u.s. and other nations have exploited and robbed other colonized nations of their resources, creating the situation where someone would want to leave one colonized nation for another.

-he's not living an American dream. he was allowed to participate in sports and make money off of sports because his athleticism is being exploited and used to generate billions along with every other nfl player and team owner.

Supreme Court Rules Black People Are Not Citizens

Image | Dred Scott Painting by Louis Schultze, 1998 Missouri Historical Society, St. Louis

On March 6, 1857, in Dred Scott v. Sandford, the United States Supreme Court ruled that black people were not Americans citizens and could not sue in courts of law. The Court ruled against Dred Scott, an enslaved black man who tried to sue for his freedom.

For years before this case began, Dred Scott was enslaved by Dr. John Emerson, a military physician who traveled and resided in several states and territories where slavery was illegal–always accompanied by Dred Scott. Dr. Emerson eventually took Mr. Scott back to Missouri, where slavery was legal. When Dr. Emerson died there in 1843, Mr. Scott was still enslaved.

After Dr. Emerson's death, Dred Scott and his wife, Harriet, sought freedom in the Missouri state courts. The Scotts argued that their prior residence in free territories had voided their enslavement. The Missouri Supreme Court ruled against the Scotts and authorized Dr. Emerson's widow, Irene, to continue to own them. When Irene Emerson later gave her estate, including the Scotts, to her brother, John Sandford, Dred Scott brought suit in federal court.

Written by Chief Justice Roger B. Taney, the U.S. Supreme Court's Dred Scott decision held that the Fifth Amendment did not allow the federal government to deprive a citizen of property, including enslaved people, without due process of law. This ruling kept the Scotts legally enslaved, invalidated the Missouri Compromise and re-opened the question of slavery's expansion into the territories. The resulting legal uncertainty greatly increased sectional tensions between northern and southern states and pushed the nation forward on the path toward civil war.

Unable to win liberty in the courts, Dred and Harriet Scott were freed by a subsequent owner a few months after the decision. Dred Scott died just months later of tuberculosis, while Harriet Scott lived until 1876.

Kinda why I don't really put stock in juneteeth like some folks and celebrate. It's been pure hell since then. The moment you're genuinely happy a certain set feels threatened and are ready to trample on that.

DCAllAfrican DCAllAfrican it was mainly a fun, chill trip. Ghana is black as hell and they showed a ton of love to black people from our side of the world. You should pine over Ghana more than Japan going forward :). The most spiritual part was at Elmina Castle where our enslaved ancestors were held before being shipped off. I almost cried like twice bro
