Im here saying we as black people shy away from visiting our mother continent yet wanna run to Europe like we belong there and yet youre here defending Europe.

You sound misserable and insufferable. So if you randomly ask a black person about where they want to go and they say England for example, you're gonna automatically assume they are full of self hatred without knowing any back ground info such as if they've already been to a number of countries from the motherland etc ? While I agree with you on certain things, you behave like you've lost your wits and just started learning about slavery and the injustices that have been handed to black people. Tame yourself and behave like someone who's ready to provide solutions instead of someone iust full of hate and talk.

I think your statement is a little broad fam. I can only speak from my African American perspective but I don't know too many AA folks with the means to travel rushing to Europe. I can see why black people from other areas would want to visit the places associated with who colonized them but not so much for the AA and other Black people I know who travel.
Also, my friends from Nigeria, Ghana and any country populated largely by non-black Africans, tell me not to visit those places as a African American. I've been told by multiple people that they aren't that welcoming to AA tourism. However, they do recommend many places like Tanzania, Senegal, Ethiopia, South Africa, Mali, Zambia etc.
With that being said I get what you are saying and it is a good point to bring up that black people shouldn't spend money in countries that are anti-black. But there are alot of different Black people and Black experiences. Stating a broad opinion about black people as a whole is a little triggering and doesn't add much value to the discussion. You have good points but your delivery is overly critical about black people in general and I don't think this thread is the place for that. I invite you to make it a priority to use you platform to uplift and provide constructive dialog your brothers and sisters.

Living in the third world ain't easy. I ain't gonna blame anyone going to Europe or Asia. It's rough out here.
If you have 2 weeks vacation, go to Europe. If you have a month, go to an African country where someone knows the way around.

I can't remember the last time I saw an ad on Western TVs about visiting an African country. Tourism ministries across the continent also do a poor job at promoting their respective countries when there is so much to see and experience there.
There are countries that do understand the importance of tourism for their economies, but they are far and few between, and they usually try to attract the traditional tourist (White or Asian).
If there were "visit Kenya/Ghana" billboards in cities like Atlanta during the summer/winter, I wonder how much impact they would have on African tourism.

And he isn't exactly wrong: our region (Central Africa) has a lot of things to see (Cameroon's nickname is"Africa in miniature" because of the variety of peoples, geography, and climate one can experience there), but it is an area of Africa where the powers that be have tourism very low on the list of priorities, and it shows: the hospitality industry is barely functional, water and electricity are not always available everywhere (your hotel might have an independent generator and water but it is definitely not guaranteed, and to say security is not the best is an understatement (especially with the growing separatist movement in the western provinces and the remaining Boko Haram pockets in Northern Nigeria that often escape into Cameroonian territory to escape the Nigerian military). These are things that can ruin someone's first trip to the continent, and it's why I agree with
Nouss
about safe African destinations (or destinations where you know locals who will show you around).

Dude I went to Nairobi by myself for 5 days and I had a ball and I took a bus to Mombasa and spent 2 days by myself as a 27 yo Jamaican man.
I went to Johannesburg by myself for 3 days and took a train to Durban and spent another 3 days there.
I went to Maputo in Mozambique for 1 day from that South Africa excursion.
I won’t even count Egypt because u don’t conscider that black Africa.
Stop being Afraid of Africa and be a man. Stop giving excuses.

I’ll make the trip to Africa eventually. My plan right now is to hit LA, Madrid, then I have to decide where to go in Africa. I might go to Morocco. I refuse to send my dna in but i have some fam that did some genealogy work and they traced back that Native american and moroccan. im not really pressed about either tbh, I’m more connected to being a black american than being african american if that makes sense.

i would say you are, perhaps, not the average traveler...fact is everything ain’t for everybody, ‘3rd world country’ or ‘developing nation’ however one chooses the semantics, it isn’t an easy transition for most to make coming from countries where consistently running power, drinkable (for foreigners anyway) tap water, an infrastructure transparent enough to be accessible is a literal afterthought; especially if you don’t have a trusted plug...
also the point made by others about many african nations not exactly advocating/making it easy for a more accessible tourism to african americans particularly should not be taken lightly, eventually i could see many african nations doing something more akin to what israel offers to the jewish diaspora but even with the strife in that region there is a considerable gap between where israel is as a nation and most african nations...an acquaintance was telling me how he was going to take advantage of some citizenship/visa thing that ghana was offering to african americans, so maybe it will be sooner rather than later...
it seems that rather than being informed by your experiences abroad and putting them into a relative context, you have created a narrow story of absolutes...
