Southern Baptist Convention Takes Action Against All-White Church Accused of Refusing to Let Black Worshipers In

The Southern Baptist Convention has suspended an all-white denomination in Georgia amid allegations of racism toward Black churchgoers earlier this year.

The Raleigh White Baptist Church in Albany was given its walking papers Monday, June 11, after the SBC executive committee voted to withdraw fellowship over “… clear evidence of the church’s intentional discriminatory acts,” according to The Tenneseean. The church had been sharing its building with a growing Black congregation for the past six months due to declining membership dating back to 2015.

Raleigh White initially welcomed New Seasons Church, led by pastor Mark Glass, with open arms but the relationship between the two denominations quickly deteriorated. Tensions hit a fever pitch March 18 when the all-white church scheduled an event for the same time as New Seasons’ worship service. Unaware of the schedule change, Black parishioners showed up but were turned away at the door and told to wait in their cars, the report revealed.

Black people love to hitch up under whites and cry foul when they get mistreated in their spaces and organization. Every other group even some white groups like Greeks, Jews, and Italians, when they got shunned by the WASP built their own organizations, their own churches, etc. and we people still wanna knock next man door than build our own. It's gettin real old.

how do you know they weren’t going to get their own building? perhaps they tried, and the same circumstances that caused the friction between the two congregations might well have served as an impediment to building or getting their own...besides the article says they were a new/growing congregation, which implies maybe they weren’t at the point of be able to finance their own just yet; nice touch with the on point “for christ’s sake” reference tho!

perhaps that’s the case...or maybe the whole point is to call theses people out on and highlight their hypocrisy??? given the circumstances, the black church’s reaction seems pretty justified...

presumably y’all are black?? why think the worst about folk that look like you? why attribute such weak qualities to your own, rather than the society that seeks to make people weak to make itself strong?

You really think there are no black churches?

You know that historically when black people have built their own organizations, economic system, businesses, white people came in and either sabotaged it or straight up destroyed and murdered the people in those communities.

There is a reason why Arabs are allowed to come over and own gas stations and asians are allowed to own stores. For whatever reason they are scared to death of black people owning things.

I feel like things are changing due to the power of social media. I'm seeing all sorts of black businesses being opened and supported at number not seen before. The sad thing is that it just feels like we're getting started and havent yet had the time to accumulate the wealth.

Of course there are.

You're missing my point. These specific black people here wanna open a door that doesn't want to open for them when the could build their own church or attend other churches. It's just vexxing to me now to see people trying to be in places where they aren't wanted. Why would you want to be there?

Bun dat. Let them be hypocrites all they want. I don't give a damn. Kick them out of the denomination group and keep it moving. I think it was right for the SBC to kick out the racist church. I won't say it's wrong either for the black parishioners to call out the nonsense. I just don't think it's necessary to want to force yourself into the space. Kick them out and build a local inclusive church parish. SBC got the funds for it.

Yea, I know. HISTORICALLY.
But we don't live in historically. We live in now. And we gotta keep it pushing, not stagnant because of something that happened ~100 years ago. If I thought like that I would be begging Great Britain for reparations on behalf of my forefathers instead of getting busy on my own thing.

Yeah that all sounds good but when the system is working against you it ain't easy to "keep pushing". Of course you shouldn't get stagnant but you can't compare other groups to us when they don't go through what we go through to build stuff.

You don't really have a solid point though. Especially if you are using this event as evidence.

They were two congregations, one all white, one majority black. They were sharing a building. The white church welcomed the black folk at first. Then things turned sour.

Those these people actually built a balck congregation, we're initially welcomed, the white church apprently a member of an organization where they had to agree not to discriminate. They were no begging for accpetence or entrance into a white organization. They asked for fair use of a building, like was agreed upon.

I remember years ago you and me had a conversation on here about how upsetting it was for you in college to see some black students sit by themselves, isolate themselves from other races on campus, yet still complain about how they get isolated. Now it is vexing these people be nice to folk during a transition period.

All these black people wanted to do is worship in the same place at white folk peacefully, a place we're the pastor swore they would be welcomed, where the association the church belongs to swears that racial discrimination is against the rules.

Not only that, I Googled this sorry and got more info:

Raleigh White Baptist Church, which once boasted a membership of 253, recently had fewer than 20 people attend on Sundays. The all-white church in Albany, Ga., planned to bequeath its facilities to New Seasons, an African American church, to reflect the changing demographics of the surrounding community.

The plan was simple: New Seasons would share facilities with Raleigh White for six months, at which time the building would be passed off. But after Raleigh White leadership changed and internal opposition surfaced, the plan collapsed

So this black church was going to take over the building. It was going to be their space in a few months. The few white folk left were acting like ****, leadership changed, they tried to be good Christians about everything, and got **** on.

So their crime is failing to predict future racism. Sorry, I can't really respect your take on this

I'm not sure if I posted this business already here but I've been subscribed for almost a year and I am thoroughly impressed by the gradual improvement in products and business approach.

I had to temporarily suspend my subscription due to my recent marriage and moving but the owner insisted on still sending me free product just because and for the culture. I thought that was solid. The quality of products has improved and it is comparable to any other mens classic wear subscription but it takes into account our cultural needs.

It's not about comparing to other groups. Just learn from what they did to get around their ostracization from mainstream white society. Of course their situation wasn't nearly as bad as ours but there is a model that works that pretty much all groups have followed. And we can do the same.

Alright you got me here: "So this black church was going to take over the building. It was going to be their space in a few months. The few white folk left were acting like ****, leadership changed, they tried to be good Christians about everything, and got **** on."

They were not trying to share the congregation, merely the space as agreed on. You right about that.

I still think my larger point still stands. Control over our own spaces and institutions is a must.

She should've quit after the Trump fiasco.
While not for me, Hart's act(to my knowledge) has never been political.
I've never racked my brain thinking "Why isn't Kevin Hart jumping on Trump??"

She could've easily used that energy to joining forces with an actual cause
