Black Culture Discussion Thread

Edit: my aunt is making me watch Jungle Fever cuz I asked her the same question.

Edit 2: good movie, doesn't really answer my question. I think it provided interesting perspectives on the white-black dating issue.

Alright, I'm gonna ask this with no agenda. I genuinely want to know because I have such little experience on the subject.

Are African American women THAT bad? It seems the stereotype of the single, sometimes angry black woman is pervasive in our community dialogue.
I've pretty much exclusively dated only West Indian women (both born there or of West Indian descent that's why I ask. I myself have slept with an African American woman but in the short time I knew her she was sweet and nice. I wouldn't say that's enough time to really know and see a person but it was a positive weekend.

Also, that I'm not religious but I'm spiritual is such crap. But I won't go on about that here.

As someone who didn't grow up in the US, I'm of two minds when it comes to opinions like this. On one hand, there's valid points to be made regarding a lot of systemic injustices here. But my view is the opportunities and potential in America still makes it the best country in the world. sure, not everyone has access to those same opportunities, but when one's in the position lucky enough to make the most out of the opportunity, America becomes the vessel for them to succeed at a level which is unparallel to other places in the world. I grew up never having to worry about shelter, education or food but when I made it to the States last year I'll never go a day without expressing the gratitude and appreciation that I have for making it here. America represents the pursuit of an opportunity and a dream. Whether or not one ever realizes that dream isn't the point, the satisfying part is the pursuit.

So many Americans are baffled I left NZ and Australia to come here, but when you compare the talent and opportunity there really is no comparison.

no cap, one of my recent past times is watching youtube vids of expats in various countries explaining their experiences, giving tips; also conversely folks from other countries opinion of america/americans...it is super interesting stuff to hear all the different perspectives, considering how varied the possible spectrum is and the conclusions/rationalizations could be; it is interesting how consistent some things are, for instance:

he is just looking at data sets, without context, without nuance, but comes to a pretty definitive textbook uber conservative conclusion despite not really having any 1st hand experience...

watching some of these expats vids has made me wonder why there hasn't been another large migration of folks to places with more opportunity...which made me wonder if/where those places might/would be, both domestically & abroad, today?

If you've served in the military then you that there's a very aggressive, kill or be killed mentality, much different that what's taught in the civilian world. And also, most wars are over land, resources and drugs.

It got me thinking...

That mentality is very similar to the aggression in impoverished black communities, and how those are mini warzones due to lack of resources. Smh. We've been stripped of resources and pitted against one another for survival. It sickens me hearing some of the music talking about killing their 'op', which is another black brother.

Black community was systematically broken, which leads to violent behavior for survival, which leads to negative stereotypes which leads to paranoid officers which leads to you know what. (yes, I'm aware that some are racist regardless, so we'll just have to hope they don't get involved)

This country treats money as God, and there's hardly any money in black communities, so we're seen as evil to the cops.

I swear, these celebs have the power to improve life for the entire black race in this country, but they'd rather buy another boat or a 4th mansion. No hate, they work for their money, but, man. These problems can be fixed.

He will also launch a hospital ward named after him at the Texas Cancer Center in Nairobi.

"I love to see people create because as black people we love to consume but we have to make sure we create more than we consume,” he said.

Good luck with that. East Asians are not down for the ethnic mixing. They take that stuff pretty seriously.

Spike was pissed man

yea, through in a nice lil' unnecessary ad hominem jab at rappaport there too but maybe that was the edit...

eh, they both kinda have made incomplete points though dismissiveness of rappaport is more tone deaf, neighborhoods do change and while gentrification in and of itself isn't necessarily bad it does often come with issues of culture clash, disenfranchisement, displacement, higher rents, and marginalization of the 'og' residents that live in these places...it really is a failing of the market & public policy that rarely really incentivizes mixed income communities along with the lack of affordable housing for low/moderate income folks (who maybe can't afford to move, would move but for the lack of employment opportunities where affordable housing is, or for whom the cost, hassle, & time of commuting maybe prohibitive in some way)

That's why millenials and younger need to destroy this type of old, traditional stupid thinking. You like who you like. I'm Asian and love love love black and hispanic girls.

Asian men in general are not checking for sista's like that. If anything outside of Asian women, they are checking for the model white woman (blonde hair, blue eyes)

1. Learn new language
2. Different culture
3. Far from family
4. Hard to get jobs unless your employer moves you there. Japan has tight immigration policies

That being said, every black person I know who's lived in Japan loves it. I'm in the Navy and we have a few large bases over there.

So Whitlock told LeBron he wasn't a victim after the n-word was spray painted on his home. Told Russ to just shake off something an idiot fan said yet he along with Broussard, Jim Jackson and Eric Allen spent about 3 hours last year on FS1 defending Kristine Leahy after Lavar told her to "stay in her lane". Which one is it Whitlock? These black sports columnists/commentators are so spineless. A few tell the truth but most of em just go along to get along.

Both Michelle Beadle and Kristine Leahy weaponized the whiteness against "angry black men" and were rewarded with their own shows. Meanwhile Jamele Hill is bouncing around all over ESPN and I haven't seen Michael Smith since he quit SC6. Black people tell the truth and get demoted, white women cry wolf and get promoted. SMH.

That “type” you described is actually albinism type to be correct, ismjusayn.
