Black Culture Discussion Thread

Anywho, I was watching a documentary on the British enslaving africans and the narrator was talking about how black people were selling other black people.

I almost immediately turned it off.

When the romans enslaved people from the British isles or scandinavia, no one said it was was whites selling whites from a different nation. But when black africans do it, some how it is different.

We all arent one people or a monolith like they like to portray as. **** had me tight.

Can someone explain the "Black people can't be racist" quote/slogan for me please?

I don't understand it.
To put it in a much simpler terms racism is something you practice not simply just racial epethics that you hurl. Until black start practicing racism on a national scale that marginializes whites and other minorities black people and other minority's can't be racist by defualt

Sounds like racism can only have a negative connotation to it.

Such a tired discussion. Yes black folks can be and often are racist towards others.

Yall NY cats calling arab dudes habibi dont mean yall love them. Do yall even know what that means?

Whether or why cant black folks put any power behind their prejudices is another question.

The worst thing you can call a white supremacist is racist and it seems like some of yall avoid it just as strongly.

Holmes I think your confusing prejudice, bigoted and racism together, each carrying their own definition and attributes to them, I have no problem admitting that black people do sometimes harbor hatred for others but that's as much as they can do really is not like somebody. Me not liking has no effect on you unless I was the mayor of a city with a police force at my discretion

Would love to hear your perspectives about this interview fellas. I have my own thoughts, and I'm a Killer Mike fan... but I feel like he, like many people at odds with the present push for gun reform, are missing the point.

Only thing I’ll say about mike is that I really dislike when the spotlight is put on someone simply bc they can articulate their thoughts.

No

Black people are the most inclusive group of people in this country, so any "racism" that is perceived is null and void

Calling someone habibi isn't races and sounds like your trolling or misinformed, sensitive white people like to think that name calling and clowning by black people is racist but its not, are you white?

Lets switch the dynamic where its black people who can place power behind our perceived "racism" and y'all can clown and name call and you'll see the difference

"Whether or why cant black folks put any power behind their prejudices is another question." No, its not a question and you know this as well as the answer, we can't.

Before you do this...post the story.

PEARLAND, Texas --
A woman said she had her hands full with two small children - a toddler and a 2-month-old infant - both "having a meltdown" while shopping at a Target store in Pearland, Texas.

According to a now-viral Facebook post, it became too unmanageable for Rebecca Paterson until a stranger stepped in to soothe one of the crying kids.

A woman named Tiffany was captured in a picture holding the woman's 2-year-old.

"I started putting things away on the shelf and was about to leave when she came over to help," Paterson said. "She walked with me while I got the essentials needed for the day and kept hold of my toddler while he calmed down."

Tiffany "saved me today," Paterson said, adding that the stranger is an "angel."

Man Killa Mike loss in the sauce forreal smh

On the topic tho, I think and have always thought that a race saying they can't be racist can lead to some dangerous rhetoric. That's what you hear before x justifies mistreatment of "a". A lot of non-whites use that same excuse to put down black people or use like derogatory terms. And similarly you'll here a lot of white people justifying their racism with their stock definition of racism. Can't be racist is a superior notion

I think Killa Mike had the right intentions just wrong platform

Also, again the power dynamic is a huge difference when you discuss if black people can be racist imo

^^^ this cat asking me if im white and sensitive. Bruh have you even read through this thread?

Yall are ridiculous. Yall dont see the absurdity of what you're implying. Yall jumping through hoops just to say a black person that makes a bigoted statement towards a group of people is ok. Seeing as he has no power to execute these orders..everything is fine.

The term racist isnt only designated to those in power. Stop using my blackness and your blackness as a sheild to say racist things.

In short, any one of any race can be racist if they are talking down on someone only due to race.

Disingenuous statement by you, I don't think anyone in these last few pages co-signed hurling bigoted/"racial" slurs at other groups of people. Don't know how or where you drew that conclusion. And those black people that do, are wrong for doing it.

White people love act like name calling is equal to slavery, murdering and having a economic and court system work in your favor. That's why I'm never jumping on this "black people can be racist too".

We wish all we had to deal with was name calling or jokes. It's a huge difference between name calling and dealing with stuff that actually effects your life/way of life. So because of that I'm not calling them the same thing.

I don't know you so I was just asking a question because of your standpoint. And I never said that it was fine to be black and have prejudice/ bigoted opinions or views.

I just don't think that racism towards black people and perceived racism from black people are the same, because there are WS/SWS out there that believe that it is the same, and that gives them an excuse to continue their racist views/actions towards us.

Exactly

sure white supremacists and white people in general often conflate those two things...but that doesn’t negate the idea that black people can be/hold/participate in actual bigoted/prejudiced/racist views and/or actions; to say admitting such gives them reason to excuse their actions/views is a kind of obfuscation...regardless of what black folk are or are not doing to/for white/non black peoples white supremacists gon’ be for white supremacy...

it is a legit argument to say what individual black people/small groups of black people may do to non blacks or even other blacks is 1) of a different scale & scope to what is typically referred to as systematic racism and thus not comparable and/or 2)result of centuries of white supremacy...

without making that distinction clearly understood, most non black (and even more specifically non black american) people really think of (and experience, if ever) racism on an individual level, it doesn’t really even occur to them how there is a system in place that not only preferences whiteness but also penalizes blackness...

that said, of course any one can be racist to argue/compare/parse the degree to which it is racist is pertinent to a discussion about the possible nuance in the different definitions/degrees/kinds of bigotry/prejudice/racism, but this is a courtesy that doesn’t usually get extended to non black people...it is kinda of narrow to constrict the definition of racism to one that relies on a certain kind of power...

Even some black folks will never understand . No need to continue to explain.

Like I said, let's list the effects of white racism vs black racism

So when you have known c00ns like Paris Denard, Larry Elder, Alan Keyes and the likes say that black people are racist because "they have experienced racism from other black people", what does that mean? I know that they are basically looking for a pat on the head from zaddy, what do others think who think black people can be racist?

Don't think saying that Black ppl can be racist is the same as advocating theories of reverse racism. Two different things, as-is being racist/systematic racism

I mean that is what it's saying. Saying that black people can be racist lends credence to reverse racism being a thing.

You can't just separate racism and systematic racism. They are the same. I don't believe in the seperate definitions. Racism is systematic by default.

Racism is more than just words u know that
Words and actions though they can have different results both originate from the heart. Intent is the same.

Ask these kids that are committing suicide from bullying if words don’t injure.

What country on this earth, are white people marginalized, targeted, have state-sanctioned violence committed against them, and denied equal treatment because of their race? And if there is a such a country that exists, what country is it that has not had the fury of western military forces punish them accordingly?
