Black Culture Discussion Thread

I figure most of the individuals in this thread are pretty knowledgeable on the history of injustice in this country, but this is one of the best explanations of the SYSTEM of white supremacy I've ever seen, a must watch no matter how "woke" you are IMO.

Reflections of a whitened blackness: The difficulties of defining oneself when seen as being ‘too white to be black’ but ‘too black to be white’

Alabama men's basketball coach Avery Johnson made it clear Wednesday what he thought of the racist social media videos made by a former student.

Johnson said after the Crimson Tide's victory over No. 17 Auburn that Harley Barber's video was "vile" and "abhorrent" and that he was "really disturbed" by it. The university expelled Barber after her video surfaced. She lat
er apologized for her actions.

Johnson then made it a point to discuss the makeup of his team's roster.

"We have a lot people in our organization ... our team that are from a lot of different backgrounds," he said (via AL.com). "Everybody (doesn't) look like me, but we accept everybody, OK? Wherever they're from, whatever their skin color is, all right? We accept everybody."

"We have some terrific players on our team from great families, whether they're single-parent, two parents, doesn't matter," Johnson added.

Johnson also lauded university president Stuart Bell and athletic director Greg Byrne for their "strong stands" on diversity and inclusion.

lmfao who is checking for a Monique......anything let alone a special? Colorbias and genderbias while She's Gotta Have It, a show about a sexually free black woman in New York gets renewed for a second season. C'mon man

Monique, just go sit down somewhere. This is the entertainment industry, not an office job. Nobody cares about how long your resume is; either you're popular or you're not and last time I checked, nobody's checkin for Monique in 2018. 90% of musicians could make this exact same claim. "Why is Lil Pump getting so much money? I've been in the game for longer; look at my resume!"

unless you know what they getting/got paid relative to other shows, doesn't invalidate the claim that netflix might indeed have those "biases"...just that they have some metrics to support them.

that said, she prolly going the wrong way with this one...
