Black Culture Discussion Thread

BTW, I used the term neocolinization rather than neocolonization in describing how western nations shut out African nations the way the NFL shut out Colin Kaep. Its happening on small and large stages. One is considered independent enterprise while the other is foreign policy. Same thing. Still racist.

I'm going to have to disagree with my mans post. We have a mental and self imagery issue that far exceeds our financial issues in the community. Criticizing movie ticket sales doesn't resolve much imo and I actually send kudos to the organizations, mentoring programs etc that our taking kids out to have a good productive time as a community.

The woman that controls that IG Page has a ego problem. Quickly blocked me for saying “Real life Wakanda can wait because I’m about to watch this movie 3-4 times. Decided to scroll down her page and saw a nice amount of stuff i don’t agree with.

Yeah, that whole page has alot of negativity and confusion going on within that page. It's her sandbox but I challenge her to promote a black business, community program or something rather than that being critical of the black community clickbait meme bs.

Plus what makes her think you can build Wakanda with the money that movie is about to make. Wakanda looks like Dubai on HGH fam lol.

You cannot build what you can't even imagine.

Plus we supporting Ryan coogler who is a black director who came a from directing fruitvale station to a freaking marvel film!! That's huge! So major props to him and Wallace! Wallace becoming an elite Hollywood actor and a ton of black actresses too will be in this, we def gotta support because they gonna get more roles for having acted in this film. There is no downside this film should be celebrated and watched at the theatre!

Professor Gilbert Kalonde, a technology education instructor at Montana State University, went to his local Walmart to complete a simple task but received a major headache instead.

The Zambian native was utterly shocked when the Walmart employee managed to get his profession incorrect while renewing the license. Written on the license was "clean toilets" instead of his actual profession. Kalonde noticed the "mistake' and took it back to be corrected and to demand an apology. He did not get either. Walmart refused to apologize, according to The Billings Gazette.

Even after showing the worker proof of his profession as a professor, "clean toilets" remained on the license for a year until it was ready to be renewed again.

But Kalonde did not take this laying down. He sued Walmart for libel. The ACLU of Montana filed a discrimination suit on behalf of Kalonde in August 2016. Kalonde and Walmart reached a settlement causing both cases to be dismissed.

Walmart eventually apologized for the mishap on Oct. 19, 2017, with a letter released this past Monday by the ACLU of Montana. In the brief statement, Walmart said the incident was unacceptable.

“The most sincere apologies are again extended to Professor Gilbert Kalonde and his family for the incident,” the letter says. “Walmart regrets the impact this may have had on Professor Kalonde and his family.”

The letter said Walmart “promptly reviewed the situation and took appropriate steps to help ensure that this would not happen again.”
