Black Culture Discussion Thread

It's a class assignment/test for 4th graders, all the work you do at that gave is just regurgitating what's been taught to you by your teachers. I genuinely wonder that the teachers taught these kids and how the other kids responded to the question.

I love the social media age because it kids everyone a platform to put racism on blast. Even 20 years ago no one would know about this.

Ethiopia Bans Adoption of Children by Foreigners

Ethiopia’s parliament has given the green light to legislation banning the adoption of children by foreigners.

MPs said orphans and other vulnerable children should be cared for and supported by local systems, in order to protect them from abuse abroad.

The vulnerability of children adopted by foreign families has been in debate since 2011, when a 13-year-old girl died in the care of her adoptive parents in the US.

The move has proved largely popular, although some have suggested the services available in Ethiopia do not meet the needs of such children.

In 2016, Denmark banned all adoptions fromEthiopia, stating Ethiopian adoption agencies often gave “inconsistent information” on the origins of children within the system, which could lead to trafficking cases.

Danish social and interior minister at the time, Karen Elleman, said she did not “have the confidence” that adoptions from the country “live up to the requirements we have in regards to the adoption process.”

But the 2011 death of an Ethiopian girl in the US has dominated the recent debate on the subject.

Larry and Carri Williams, of Washington state, starved and beat Hana Williams, who they adopted in 2008, until she died in the backyard of their home.

Ms Williams was convicted of homicide by abuse in connection with the death of the girl.

The girl’s father, Mr Williams, was convicted of first-degree manslaughter.

Celebrity adoptions have also raised awareness of the practice. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are among those who have adopted children from Ethiopia, when in 2005 they adopted their daughter Zahara Marley.

Seal has suggested Oprah Winfrey knew of Harvey Weinstein's alleged sexual misconduct.

The 'Kiss From A Rose' hitmaker took aim at the TV icon as he targeted her friendship with the disgraced filmmaker.

Sharing pictures of the pair together, Seal included the caption: "When you have been part of the problem for decades ... but suddenly they all think you are the solution."

The singer described Oprah as "sanctimonious" and appeared to accuse her of knowing about the allegations made against the Hollywood producer.

He wrote: "Oh I forgot, that's right ..... you'd heard the rumours but you had no idea he was actually serially assaulting young starry-eyed actresses who in turn had no idea what they were getting into. My bad. #SanctimoniousHollywood (sic)"

Oprah previously addressed the sexual assault scandal on her own Facebook page, describing Weinstein's behaviour as "hideous".

She said: "I've been processing the accounts of Harvey Weinstein's hideous behaviour and haven't been able to find the words to articulate the magnitude of the situation."

Oprah made headlines after a speech she gave at the Golden Globe awards sparked speculation that she would run for president in the 2020 election.

In her powerful speech, Oprah spoke about press freedom, racism and sexual abuse before receiving a standing ovation with her closing words about the future.

She said: "I want all the girls watching here, now, to know that a new day is on the horizon. And when that new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say 'me too' again."

Nah of course not
But they many shouldn’t be judged by the few
I’m all for kids succeeding and being the best they can be regardless

I’m telling y’all
Don’t trust Oprah
She a cornball sistah

“I think a lot of people still use the slavery experience as an excuse,” Winfrey said. “Some people are still walking around thinking that this system–now Mr. Bush owes them something because we were in slavery, is that fair?”

Oprah 1989.

I respect what Oprah has done to an extent but she has played their game. She plays both sides, she tap dances a lil bit, makes white women feel comfortable. That speech was nice but 53% of white women voted for Trump, he's everything that she was criticizing. That has to be addressed.

Random fact (I just saw homies post on panafricanism) but Kwame Ture lived in my hometown in Guinea when he was here. My parents actually knew him and he was in a relationship with Miriam Makeba, a South African singer turned activist. She stayed in my hometown for a while too.

Stokley Carmicheal chose the name Kwame Ture from the linking of the names of the first 2 African presidents after independence. Kwame Nkrumah (Ghana) and Sekou Toure (Guinea)

This all made complete sense because while Americans were going through the civil rights movement in the 50s, Africans were seeking and gaining independence, so these black activist often found refuge in newly founded African nations.

Oh and the west (England, France and The US) had big problems with this and shut these countries out (trade embargoes etc...) so the African nations became allies of Cuba and Russia. It made sense because they (Africans and black Americans) were socialists.

The 50s and 60s were a fertile global environment to foster panafricanism. Who knows what could have been.

She been tap dancing and playing both sides of the field. Oprah wants to keep her audience of white women, so she says things that they can identify with. In addition, this meetoo ******** pertains mostly to white women in Hollywood. The reality of it is, this will only improve opportunities for white women in Hollywood to land roles without having to appease some dirty Hollywood exec. Black women will still have to go through hell and high water and will still be overlooked.
