WASHINGTON - Some student-athletes at Howard University are dealing with no heat or hot water in their dorms and the issue is prompting the school to ask other students returning from winter break to wait until this weekend so they can fix the problem.

Classes at Howard do not start until Monday, but university officials said they are experiencing boiler issues and ruptured steam pipes on campus, which is causing many of the buildings, including the on-campus residence halls, to be cold in light of the freezing weather the D.C. area has been experiencing.

Howard University Vice President of Student Affairs Kenneth Holmes sent an email to students saying the campus will be closed on Thursday and Friday due to the cold weather and winter storm.

In order to ensure that student residents return to comfortable, heated residence halls, we are asking all students to delay their arrival to campus until noon or later, Sun. Jan. 7,” Holmes said in the email. “Please be advised that temperatures in the residence halls will be cold through the weekend until the necessary repairs have been completed.

“We understand that many of you may already be en route to campus or are unable to make alternative arrangements for arrival times to campus. The residence halls will be open and the Residence Life staff will be on site to accommodate students who return prior to Sunday at noon.”

Officials said students with any questions can contact their resident hall manager or the Residence Life main office at 202-806-6131.

Mike Tyson Preparing to Revolutionize Marijuana Industry, Breaks Ground on ‘Tyson Ranch’

California City, CA – With the legalization of recreational marijuana in California on January 1st, former heavyweight boxing champion ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson is breaking ground on a 40 acre mega resort dedicated not only to cultivating high-quality strains of THC and CBD, but also utilizing state of the art technology to forward research into the numerous health benefits of cannabis.

Tyson, along with business partners Robert Hickman, Jay Strommen, and city mayor Jennifer Wood recently broke ground on a massive 40-acre plot of land on December 20, in California City – a remote desert area roughly 60 miles southwest of Death Valley National Park.

The Blast notes that “Tyson Ranch” will dedicate 20 acres of the facility as growing facilities that “will allow master growers to have maximum control of their environment.” The mega-facility will also have a “Tyson Cultivation School” to teach growers the latest methods to perfect their own strains of cannabis.

According to the exclusive report by The Blast:
Along with growing high-grade cannabis, Tyson Ranch will feature:
• Hydro-feed plant and supply store
• Extraction facility
• Edible factory
• Premium “glamping” campgrounds and cabins
• Amphitheater

Tyson is reportedly a long-time believer in the medicinal properties of marijuana, according to The Blast, and aims to use the ranch as a place to forward research into the healing properties of cannabis.

CBD, a cannabis compound with no psychoactive properties, has been proven to work as an effective anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, antioxidant and antipsychotic agent – and has been successfully used to treat PTSD.
Tyson recently trademarked the name “Iron Mike Genetics” for use at the cannabis resort.

Tyson Holistic, the company that owns the cannabis resort, employs mainly veterans and says that taking care of those who have served in the military is a top priority.

The Tyson Ranch will be located near Edwards Air Force Base and hopes to create many jobs in the community. The town expects a major boom in cannabis production and development as the “Green Rush” now hits California. California City mayor Jennifer Wood reportedly described the business venture as a “rebirth” for the entire city, according to The Blast.

“Undeveloped lands are primed to be cultivated”
and Tyson Ranch will be an oasis in the desert, Hickman said.

Tyson has never been heavily associated with cannabis up until now, although, in a 2010 AP interview, he noted that that one of his biggest regrets was not taking the opportunity to smoke weed with Tupac.

“He always wanted me to smoke weed with him, and I never did it, and I wish I did,” Tyson said during the phone interview.

Tyson admitted that he declined the invitation because he was a ‘closet smoker’ and didn’t want word getting out that he used the drug.

“That’s my biggest regret,” he said.

According to The Bleacher Report:
The former heavyweight champion was fined in 2000 for testing positive for marijuana, and he said in his memoir that he got high before major fights. He also said he used marijuana when he was sentenced for cocaine possession in 2007.
Although smoking with Tupac will sadly never come to pass, something tells us that Tyson’s project will be a big hit – lots of pun intended – and he’ll likely have an opportunity to blaze with a who’s who of celebrity stoners.

We will keep you updated when an official grand opening for Tyson Ranch is set.

Decent conversation. One thing I can't stand about this show is that everybody has this "I'm right, you're wrong" mentality. Mouse really showed that during this episode.

they say a picture says 1000 words

this one says a lot to me

steph the superstar concentratin on the shot

the white fans all focused on the ball

the lone black youth emulating steph

but at the same adoring steph, supporting steph

while the white people worried about the score, the game

not one of them admiring, or rather appreciative of stephs effort or skill

like just play boy

i got a lot riding on the game

but at the same time hes that boys hero

i think its a deep picture

I can’t front
I see pics like this
And kinda :smh: at myself
My wife Asian (Filipino)
All my kids are fully black except my youngest
Should I feel bad
Sometimes I do and can’t explain why

you should feel a little bad, I just cannot see myself marrying a non black woman. Our struggle worldwide is too unique

Nawgthyhare, you shouldn't feel bad at all for having an Asian wife.

I would never judge someone's blackness on their spouse.

Your girl being Asian doesn't make you a sellout or any less black. You love who you love b, the end. That's all there is to it.

nah man, there is nothing more symbolic in a mans love for his people that a representation of who he decides to share his love with. End of story

Im not saying people like Harry Belafonte, Sidney Potier arent great men, but if you wanna be real down for your people you need to marry a black woman and build your life with them. Double end of story

I disagree, I would much rather see nawgtyhare giving back to the community and volunteering his time and knowledge with the underprivileged than marrying a black woman. As you stated, there's nothing wrong with interracial couples. I'm not gonna judge that man, or any man, for who they fell in love with.
