Black Culture Discussion Thread

As this natural hair state gets deeper I'm starting to realize how much of what we consider looking unkempt relates to what white people have deemed appropriate. Right now my dreads are hanging down and they are in what I would consider desperate need of being retwisted but part of me thinks that I shouldn't fell that I look that bad because this is my hair and how it grows. That because of what society has deemed "neat" and "proper" I only look clean cut when I get my hair retwisted. Just like when you got a low cut and you step out the barbershop.

I look at my daughter's hair the same way. My wife is a stylist so of course she's real big on hair looking neat but sometimes I look at my girls' hair and don't think we should be so pressured to keep their hair braided for it to be neat or embarrassed if their hair isn't perfect. Same with my son's hair not being brushed.

I'm ranting but yea

I know Meeks last charge was BS but don’t get the Rally. We going to ignore the other 8 charges?

love watching the videos on this channel even though the panel can irritate me a lot especially Uchechi when she goes on her rant about black men.

Is their really a rift now days? It seems like that's an older generation thing. I've had nothing but ordinary experiences when around Africans and blacks from the West Indies.

in a way this meek rally in similar to the situation with kaep, where people are making about the person rather than the overarching issue; what is happening/happened to meek may indeed be unjust but the way the system works is the bigger issue...

i think it is a generational thing too, but also if you came up in the 90s & early aughts, i think it was still the case in many places that even though the rift may have not be nearly as big, being african coming up thenwould still for some be reason to feel apart from the other black folk...which, i think, can lead to some friction on both sides
