If you thought government sanctioned discrimination was a thing of the past, you haven’t been to Camilla, GA. The City of Camilla is comprised of a 70% African-American population and has an elected Black mayor, but city council voted to not give him keys to his own office at City Hall. Mayor Rufus Davis talked to Rashad Richey about the city’s policies, which include Blacks not being allowed to be buried next to Whites, all White school age children in the city go to an all-White private school, and there are no African-American police officers just to name a few. Mayor Davis is now protesting his own city and will refuse to sit in council meetings until his city is desegregated.

Baltimore City high school experiences heating issues for two weeks, students wore coats to class

BALTIMORE, Md. (WMAR) - With freezing temperatures throughout the east coast, a Baltimore school is dealing with a heating issue forcing students to wear their coats in class.

After a tweet surfaced showing a classroom with students wearing coats, parents told ABC2 News that the high school hasn't had heat in a little more than two weeks.

Several students took their concerns to Twitter and stated that they were still told to go to school even though Baltimore has been experiencing temperatures below freezing.

ABC2 News reached out to Baltimore City Schools and received a statement reading that the 'heating issues' was a result of the age of the physical plant and that the heat was compromised by the cold temperatures and high winds. The statement also read:

"The heating issues were also compounded by the boilers shutting on and off. Facilities staff will be working this evening to install a new oil regulator to adjust the flow of oil through the pipes. With this repair, we are hopeful that building temperatures will return to more comfortable levels on Thursday.”

McDonald's in London turned away a woman because she wears a hijab
"It’s just a matter of taking it off."

A video of a Muslim woman being turned away from a McDonald's restaurant in London sparked outrage on social media earlier this week.

In the footage, the woman is heard asking a security guard standing outside the establishment why she can't go in to place an order, and whether it's because she's wearing a hijab.

His response? "It’s just a matter of taking it off".

According to The Guardian, the British Muslim, a 19-year old student, who asked not to be named, said the incident took place on Thursday in a North London McDonald's.

Speaking to the British publication, she shared details of the incident, explaining that the security guard repeatedly told her to remove her hijab.

When she refused and he kept asking, she decided to film the now-viral video on her phone.

Shocked by what she had just heard, the student responded to the guard saying:

“It’s not just a matter of taking it off. I wear this for religious reasons and I’m not ashamed of it, and I will stand in line and I will get the food I want, because this isn’t OK."

When she angrily added, “this is f***ing ridiculous”, a member of staff told her not to be rude and asked her to stop filming.

Later on in the video, a member of the public is heard intervening, telling the guard that he can't ask the woman to remove her hijab, but he was told that "it was none of his business."

Even though the woman was eventually told she will be served, she walked away telling staff she "didn't want anything anymore".

In her statement to The Guardian, the student reflected on the incident saying:

“I thought: ‘It’s finally happening to me,’ like it has to so many hijabis. It didn’t feel real because I had seen so many videos like this and it was finally happening to me in real life. I was in so much disbelief."

The video left people outraged

"Disgusting and Iniquitous! A woman/girl should NEVER be forced to remove an article of clothing"

"Whatever happened to religious freedom?"

McDonald's issues an apology

Soon after the incident went viral on social media, McDonald's UK issued an apology to the victim and said they had suspended the security guard.

In their statement on the matter, the fast-food chain's managers wrote:

"McDonald's has no policy which restricts or prevents anyone wearing a hijab, or any other religious attire, from entering our restaurants".

"We welcome customers of all faiths and sincerely apologise for this situation. We are taking this matter very seriously and are addressing the situation with the individuals involved; the security guard, from a third-party company, has been suspended," the statement read.

US soldier fought to end after ambush in Niger

WASHINGTON — Army Sgt. La David T. Johnson died in a hail of gunfire, hit as many as 18 times as he took cover in thick brush, fighting to the end after fleeing militants who had just killed three comrades in an October ambush in Niger, The Associated Press has learned.

A military investigation has concluded that Johnson wasn’t captured alive or killed at close range, dispelling a swirl of rumors about how he died.

The report has determined that Johnson, 25, of Miami Gardens, Florida, was killed by enemy rifle and machine gun fire from members of an Islamic State offshoot, according to U.S. officials familiar with the findings. The Oct. 4 ambush took place about 120 miles (200 kilometers) north of Niamey, the African nation’s capital. Johnson’s body was recovered two days later.

U.S. officials familiar with the findings spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity to describe details of an investigation that has not been finalized or publicly released.
A 12-member Army special forces unit was accompanying 30 Nigerien forces when they were attacked in a densely wooded area by as many as 50 militants traveling by vehicle and carrying small arms and rocket-propelled grenade launchers.

Johnson was struck as many as 18 times from a distance by a volley of machine gun rounds, according to the U.S. officials, who said he was firing back as he and two Nigerien soldiers tried to escape.

All told, four U.S. soldiers and four Nigerien troops were killed in the ambush. Two U.S. and eight Nigerien troops were wounded.

The bodies of three U.S. Green Berets were located on the day of the attack, but not Johnson’s remains. The gap in time led to questions about whether Johnson was killed in the assault and not found, or if he was taken away by the enemy.

According to the officials, a medical examination concluded that Johnson was hit by fire from M-4 rifles — probably stolen by the insurgents — and Soviet-made heavy machine guns. It is believed he died in the attack.

The officials said Johnson was found under thick scrub brush where he tried to take cover. There were no indications he was shot at close range, or had been bound or taken prisoner, as several media reports have suggested.

A U.S. Africa Command began its investigation with a team headed by Army Maj. Gen. Roger Cloutier, the command’s chief of staff. The team visited locations in Niger to collect evidence and information about the attack, and will soon submit a draft of Cloutier’s report to Marine Gen. Thomas Waldhauser, head of Africa Command. Waldhauser could ask for additional information. The final report is expected to be released next month.

The officials familiar with the report’s conclusions said that during the attack, Johnson and two Nigerien soldiers tried to get to a vehicle to escape, but were unable to do so, became separated from the others and were shot as they were running for safety.

The report concluded that Johnson, who was athletic and a runner, was in the lead and got the farthest away, seeking cover in the brush. Officials said there were a number of enemy shells around Johnson, and evidence that he appeared to fight to the end. His boots and other equipment were later stolen, but he was still wearing his uniform.

As news of the ambush came out, the U.S. military sent in rescue teams to search for Johnson, not making his status public in the hope he might have gotten away and was still alive and hiding. The Pentagon only acknowledged that he was missing after his body was located two days later by local forces.

The Pentagon has declined to release details about the exact mission of the commando team. U.S. officials have previously said that the joint U.S.-Niger patrol had been asked to assist a second American commando team hunting for a senior Islamic State member, who also had former ties to al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb. The team had been asked to go to a location where the insurgent had last been seen, and collect intelligence.

After completing that mission, the troops stopped in a village for a short time to get food and water, then left. The U.S. military believes someone in the village may have tipped off attackers to the presence of U.S. commandoes and Nigerien forces in the area, setting in motion the ambush.

U.S. special operations forces have been routinely working with Niger’s forces, helping them to improve their abilities to fight extremists in the region. That effort has increased in recent years, the Pentagon said.

The three other Americans killed were Staff Sgt. Bryan C. Black, 35, of Puyallup, Washington; Staff Sgt. Jeremiah W. Johnson, 39, of Springboro, Ohio; and Staff Sgt. Dustin M. Wright, 29, of Lyons, Georgia.

Johnson’s combat death led to a political squabble between President Donald Trump and a Democratic congresswoman from Florida after Trump told Johnson’s pregnant widow in a phone call that her husband “knew what he signed up for.” Rep. Frederica Wilson was riding with Johnson’s family to meet the body and heard the call on speakerphone. The spat grew to include Trump’s chief of staff, who called Wilson an “empty barrel” making noise.

RIP and condolences to his family

A white supremacist spotted Maxine Waters on a plane and decided to take a creepy selfie while she slept.

Chuck C. Johnson, a Holocaust denier who recently made the news by pushing a narrative of false sexual harassment allegations against Chuck Schumer, spotted Auntie Maxine on the plane and decided to play the part of the super creep.

He waited until she was asleep before slipping over to her seat in first class and posing with her.

The picture, which was taken on a flight from Washington, D.C. to California, is creepy enough. And the comments on it are about what you’d think from the followers of a white supremacist.

George Zimmerman even commented on the image. “I guess the WE THE PEOPLE are paying for first class ticket so she can sleep on the plane,” he commented. He also referred to Waters as another fellow Black congresswoman writing, “Corrine Brown is trying to Flee her prison sentence.”

But perhaps most disturbing of all: Omar Navarro, Waters’ opponent for her House seat, commented on the creepy picture.

Navarro’s simple “LOL” comment has since been deleted, but it still raised a lot of eyebrows. What kind of congressional candidate looks at a white supremacist creeper pic and decides to comment on it at all?

Then again, this is the same political climate in which Roy Moore, an accused pedophile, only barely lost to Doug Jones in Alabama; and one in which Donald Trump, who has also been accused of sexual misconduct, is still the president of the United States.

So, all things considered, maybe it isn’t so surprising. Sadly, this might just be politics as usual nowadays.

Navarro has since taken down the comment.

Look at this Neanderthal
