I had typed out a longer response that got wiped out. I'll summarize.

With as many ailments AI had, his teams would have no choice but to put him on the bench for some games.

His MPG also wouldn't be as high so technically that would be a form of load management for HIM.

HE WOULDNT have a say so, the same way the players of today don't when their teams sit them out.
