Yeah I mean to me random falls in line with the other crimes we’ve seen in the last few months perpetrated against Asians. The majority of which are out on the streets and beyond targeting Asians seem to be otherwise indiscriminate (that isn’t to say that none have occurred in people’s homes).

I’m just speculating like everyone else.

To me the weapon is just one component. Unless I’m missing something here, that’s the first instance of a machete being used. Where I’m from, people don’t just have machetes laying around for casual usage. They also aren’t found at all laying in the streets.

Why ignore the context that the video provides? I highlighted the machete because that stands out but that’s not all.

I'm not ignoring the context of the video at all. If you would have said something like "the way they seemed to know their way around the property" or "the way they appeared to have an argument before attacking the victim", I think that would have definitely been inline with the crime being personal.

However, your argument simply states Machete -> Personal vendetta. A gun is used often times in a lot of other random crimes and isn't something that is laying around or found often times on a random street. So going back to the question JPS asked, what is it about Machete as THE WEAPON that indicates automatically that this was a personal conflict between the two parties?

Oh ok so you were looking too deep into my observation as I suspected.

Also- what argument? I wasn’t making an argument as much as I was simply answering the question posed by JPS. If you guys don’t think it was personal that’s totally fine with me, especially if it makes you feel better.

He's the only one that I can recall but I haven't been reading GQ for quite a long time.
edit, after Googling it seems Lin & some Crazy Rich Asian guy were on the cover before.
