Girl at UBC in Vancouver gets sent racist *** memo talking about some "yellow privilege" where we somehow exist as both oppressed and oppressor. Oppressor since apparently we look down on other PoC, oppressed since we're below white people and are not involved politically to try and fix our status in society of course it drops "Model Minority" in the email

the girl posted a few updates with half assed apologies from the Residence staff and surprise surprise the comments have a lot of self-hating colonial mentality Asians who just cant figure out what's wrong with being called both racist AND victim blaming at the same time

seems like she's sorry for it blowing up and all the attention/hate/DMs (I assume) she got from random people. She should be proud for calling out that idiot RA and the school but unfortunately backlash is part of the whistleblower game.

RA who wrote that with the footnotes mustve been writing a dissertation on how to be a self-hating Asian Uncle Tom. I tried looking up the paper cited but apparently its deleted from its' journal host site.

I'm reading back the poster's OP and the Model Minority BS the RA wrote got me thinking that this dumbass had a stroke of genius where they decided that they/we exist damn near in a separate universe than the rest of society forever "the Other" and our existence is a giant contradiction. Amazing. This is pure Model Minority theory at work, keep the yellow peril at bay while at the same time fool them into believing you're on their side against the "lesser" pieces of society .

1. Asians pretty much own UBC. "University of a Billion Chinese".


2. This is Vancouver. No one is hating on folks who are of subsaharan african background. Heck, there are barely any black people in Vancouver to begin with to have any negative stereotypes of them here.

3. Prejudice towards other asians? We throw in racist slurs towards other asians like halloween candy. BUT, we also just brush it off after. It's probably the way we were brought up in asia, as men, to not being sensitive. This is where you MAN IT UP.

If the note is real, its probably from some pathetic arts student who is doing a masters or phd with no real life work experience related to their studies.

In Canada, and the rest of the world outside the US, that "model minority" lingo is a bunch of bs started off in a country like the US where the racial tension is strong.

It's laughable really. Never heard of the term "model minority" used in Canada, the UK, Saudi, Philippines, or any country I lived in.
