Asian Culture Discussion Thread

Not really related to Asian culture, but I'm somewhat involved with this girl who's Indonesian grandparents and earlier are from China from my understanding).

I know it's not tied to her east Asian backgroud, but I had to vent somewhere and say I have never met a more emotional chick in my life. This girl can let the smallest things make her angry. It's pretty impressive. Highly emotional, yet the next day she’ll totally not be bothered with what happened the night before. That’s wild to me. All this a huge shock to me since my whole life I've always been the real laid back type and that's what I've always been attracted to so this is uncharted waters for me.

Our interests are also so different. She's real into anime, kpop, art, etc. I know literally nothing about any of this stuff.

Such a genuine person though so that’s what got me interested, but that emotional side of her has been exhausting at times. Obviously this isn’t an Asian girl thing. That’s just ignorant. But damn this is new to me.

curious for those who have tattoos how did your parents react to it?
My whole back and right leg are tattooed. I hid it from my parents successfully for 4 years. My mom found out about my leg, and has suspicions about my back. She cried for days when she found out. She said dad can’t find out or she’s afraid he legit might have heart attack (he’s already got high blood pressure)

It's weird how things have changed. If you read about the history of tattoos, Asian people have always had tattoos for thousands of years. It's only in the past ~100 years where Asian cultures have tried to portray that "sophisticated" image and started to avoid them to fit in with international (aka Western standards) , so whoever still gets them now is seen as an uneducated low life.

When my mom started complaining about me wanting ear rings, tats, etc. I showed her a pic of a king from hundreds of years back that had all sorts of piercings and tats head to toe. I said "I'm just following and respecting my roots" She didn't know how to counter that so she just got frustrated and started talking about "oh so NOW you start respecting your culture, how come you never follow the good things?????"

Being heavily tatted has actually helped me to not give a fug, especially in the Asian community

Those who judge you cuz of your tattoos, job, possessions...these ppl need to be avoided anyway

Yep. My philosophy has always been if you’re dumb enough to not hire me or judge me from my tattoos, I don’t want to work for you or know you.

my sister just came home and she got another one.

she just showed my parents

they really like it

My first tattoo is a memorial piece of my late sister so they weren't trippin off that one. I got another one next to that on my chest thats visible when I'm wearing a tank top and its dedicated to them and their hometown. They haven't seen my back yet...

Raise your hands.. who has a dragon or koi fish tatt? Dont be shy

Yup.. about 7 sessions in, one more to go. Just added the clouds 3 days ago. Took me a long time to think of getting this but one day I was like **** it

Is this KT Dragon in San Jose ?

Yup, Tony did my piece. He's done it for my older bros and the OGs for decades so I went with him

Same dude I got it from before he raised his rates :lol he's the best one in the shop by far, so it was worth the wait and $

I wish I could find it. That thread was funny as hell.

On a sidenote, I could never wash my dad though. I probably could if I actually went heartless though, but that ain't me.

My dad was acting like he wanted to fight me a few months back. I should’ve hit him with a stone cold stunner to shut him up.
