Asian Culture Discussion Thread

This might be a weird question, since this thread is dominantly males (steph ). is anyone here or their gf's into skincare routines? Snail masks, vitamin c serums, sleeping masks etc.

I been getting into it a lot more.. been avoiding lactose for sure, as that makes my skin breakout.

but I always cleanse + moisturize. I need to do more though cause I been breaking out a lot lately.

make sure you know wat your skin type is though. ex. my face is naturally oily and prone to acne. genetics play a huge role as well.

check this girl out... if there was such a thing as perfect skin... this is it.

Her skin is ******* gorgeous. It's so glowy, plump, and egglike. My gf got me into it now I'm using sleeping masks and snail masks....lmao

I learned that my skin is sensitive to like every moisturizer. I've tried probably like 10+. It gets red and/or sebaceous filaments develop in the areas I use them.

So now I just do an oil cleanse -> foam cleanse thats it. If you don't have sensitive *** skin like me, there's so much you can do tho.

Have you taken a look at what those moisturizers have in common? Alcohol, fragrance are two very common factors that lead to red skin. would recommend /r/asianbeauty. the thought of having snail mucin on your skin is kind of gross, but it is ******* awesome. you have any type of redness, breakouts, discoloration, and dry skin you'll see results within a couple of uses.

i actually have been looking heavily into stuff to take care of my face and skin. I'm reaching into my mid 30s and for most of my life, i had amazing, young skin. Now that I'm working so much, i can tell my skin is aging and starting to look old. I use an anti-aging cream that is also a moisturiser, face wash in the shower. Also be sure to get plenty of rest and drink lots of water. Any lack of those two will take a toll on your skin too.

Sleep and drinking plenty of water are essential to maintaining your youth. If you're ever outside for a long period of time sunscreen is a must. How do you women in Asia have such flawless skin? They cover up from head to toe.

Do you guys feel a certain way when you match with a non-Asian female on Tinder, and find out they're massive K-pop fans?
So many of my matches who aren't Asian just "happen" to love K-pop. Feels like I'm some type of bootleg version of their pop culture icons.

It's not a big deal at all, but I wonder if I'm matched because they find me attractive in some way, or if I'm just some checkbox on their fantasy. Again, this is no big deal but I'm super interested in race and culture.

Funny you mention that, I was discussing this same topic with a fellow Vietnamese homie
He told me he went on a few dates with non-Asian girls who were really into K-pop and weeaboo culture
He felt like it was reverse yellow fever, but he didn't seem to mind

Had dinner at a Vietnamese spot with a fellow Vietnamese homie
We bonded over:

- Growing up with both Vietnamese + American cultures (and the clashing of both)
- What our parents beat us with (chopsticks, brooms, belts, etc.)
- The difficulties and consequences of our culture that downplays emotional / mental health
- Visiting the homeland as children vs. adults -- the appreciation of it all
- Our families chasing $$$ vs. our generation chasing fulfillment / purpose
- Dipping our cha gio in these birds' fish sauce, curry, marinara sauce, banana ketchup, etc.

I can definitely relate to this, especially the banana ketchup (Filipino here)

The money thing plays a huge role with my parents (and I guess all our parents here). They have this deep obsession with achievements that they're willing to accept the caveats that go with it. I get the struggle and hardwork that brought them here in America but I just hate it when they make you feel guilty with your life choices because it doesn't equate to the same value that they made over the years.

Now they're on their mid-60s and thinking of having a divorce because of money.

this is literally the definition of showing the whole movie in a trailer

anyone seen the handmaiden? one of my fav movies. same director as the dude who directed old boy. also the trailer is great

Posted the same thing a while back. It's definitely a noticeable thing now.

I think it's mostly good but I can how it can be problematic too. I think cause we have parallel things going on in terms of a growing amount of representation (mostly foreign) while also still being seen as lightweight exotic, it leads to some weird behavior where they attribute all of their love of Asia to us. My professor who is Korean-American told me that he had a white student who would bow to him. She was trying to do it as a respectful thing cause she "was into Korean culture" (prob kpop/kdramas) lol.

The Handmaiden was great. I like erotic movies.

if its like they tell you they love kpop after they match with you its kinda weird. like a "omg are you korean i love kpop".

but it's not really surprising to hear non-asians like kpop, that **** is huge and only getting bigger.

What are your guys thoughts on this btw?

Do you feel like we have to support it? Not really my type of movie but a part of me feels like I should watch it just cause.

you should never feel like you "have to watch" something.

i stopped watching fresh off the boat like halfway through the first season

movie looks ok tho.

I feel the same. I have no interest to watch this movie, lowkey feels like it plays into the stereotypes but at least it's an all Asian cast.

It's Hollywood at the end of the day. We see what they want us to see.

I want a sequel to Better Luck Tomorrow and movies about the triads and yakuza operating in america. Give me some organized crime ish. Or a documentary how kenny styles is the only Asian guy I see working in western pron.

https://www.thedermreview.com/cyclopentasiloxane/

My dermo said to avoid Cyclopentasiloxane (which is in 95% of all moisturizers/cosmetics) as it is an irritant and can lead to acne..etc
