Teachers don't have sponsors and sell products. To make it into the Major Leagues you have to be the best in the country basically you don't have to be to be a teacher.
yeah but what i am saying is our value system is totally askew. what positivity does an athlete bring to the world. little to none. people sell themselves as commodities and instead of improving the human condition they just buy into this idiocy.
Is "our" value system askew, or is it the general human's value system? Think about this: teachers teach education, but not education that matters. We learn things that have next to no meaning in life for a high percentage of the population. Apart from reading, writing and conversing, what do we learn in our first 21 years that really matters? Advanced physics, calculus, english thesis constructions, does any of that really matter in the real world? I say real world as in the actual world, not the system of employment and government and money. That world is a product of this education we are being fed. Back in the old age, there was no need for all this BS. Now, we learn stuff with next to no importance just so we can get into a good college and then there learn about jobs that half the people don't even want to do.

Now compare this to the professional athlete: they represent dreams for so many kids. It's not even just about baseball, or basketball, or football, but it's that they're there for kids to dream and to believe that they can be anything they want in life. Teachers, and education, on the other hand, force books and redundant knowledge upon us with no actual meaning. I'm not talking down on teachers or the education system, but that's the reality. What we learn now is only to prepare us for a life which is a result of human progress. Life isn't even about chasing your dreams anymore, it's about following the rat race and making the most money. Everyone around you just cares about getting to the next level and making more money so they can buy more items. And what do colleges look for? The kid with the best grades. And that's all kids in high school care about (if they care about anything). Grades, GPA, AP/honors classes, I never hear anyone around me talking about how they want to be a professional athlete or how they want to be a singer or an astronaut or whatever they wanted to do as kids. They're all the same, near copies of one another, just people who want the numbers, the recognition and the twisted future that comes from it.

No flame though, just my thoughts on education/life nowadays.

Do you not "need" agnosticism or satanism for your own personal comfort?
If not, then why do you adhere to the beliefs that you adhere to?

Aren't you therefore among"the most emotionally fragile" people?

How is your belief in agnosticism/satanism different from that of the belief of a religious person?

I would have to believe in God to believe in Satan..............duhhhhhhhhhh.

I bring up comfort because it is a natural inclination for the religious to turn to outside forces during times of despair. This is also the reasoning behind a lot of religious people's assumption that atheists are "unhappy" with their lives and must feel "alone". Religious folks have been conditioned to go whatever phantom it is they worship for "hope". My strict agnostic views are simply a description of my opinions on the matter of religion and the afterlife, they have no effect on my emotional stability.....when times are rough I confide in friends and family not zombie Jesus. I don't need nothingness, as much as the christians need Jesus.

It was such an asinine comment. If some study were released stating atheists and agnostics do better on college exams, he would probably be the first to refute it; he's clearly not in favor of non-believers to even try to make such a correlation. I don't take any comparisons between the two groups seriously. The number of theists heavily outweigh the number of atheists, so numbers will be flawed. If numbers were tallied up, there would obviously be more miserable theists than miserable atheists, seeing as how roughly 10% of the country is atheist. This clown finds it interesting that, out of fewer than 100 replies, on a board with thousands of members, atheists are saying they're unhappy more frequently than theists.

And is he implying that loving deities will spite those who don't worship them?

That's rather sadistic of them, don't you think?

Negative occurrences or good fortune can strike anyone.

Roc...
If you are going to continue to utilize NT, I suggest that you learn how to read.
But since it is obvious that you struggle with reading comprehansion I will break it down for you...slowly.

In my opinion..., and from my experience...alot( a word meaning mostly, but not all) of athiests/agnostics that I know... and others that I meet...
seem to be unhappy. While... again, in my experience... alot of believers that I know... and have met... seem to FEEL HAPPY..., and FEEL BLESSED.
I'm not saying that those people ARE blessed. But they feel happy, and they feel blessed.

I am even not saying that religion made them happy. If you read my other post you would see that I said that IMO there are
"very few reasons, that anyone should ever be unhappy." I didnt say "anyone who is a believer in God."
Happiness is a choice. When you are unhappy, all you have to do is simply choose to start being happy again. And Voila!

Thats what I was saying. And then here you come, and go off on some tangent.
If some study were released..., The number of theists outweigh the number of athiests.., ... implying that loving dieties... what the +!+@ are you even talking about.
Never did I say all athiests/agnostics are unhappy. I'm just making an observation.

The question OP asked is Are You Happy. And by their own admission alot of the people that are known athiest/agnostics said that they are unhappy.
And its not just in this thread.
Everyone knows that there are alot( there is that word again) of atheist/agnostics on NT.
And when I read through the posts it seems like some of them are consistantly unhappy about something. Year after year after year. And I wonder why.
Maybe I'm just mistaking cynicism for unhappiness.

And Anton,
I never said believers are blessed, I said they feel like they are blessed.

I could make a long list of a lot of things religious folks do that I consider extremely negative....this didn't lead me to the conclusion that they are all unhappy. War, unwarranted hatred, sexism, racism, homophobia and other prejudices can all be associated with religion......this didn't lead me to the conclusion that all religious folks are unhappy because they seem salty about everything.

you're just biased....if you read what rocboyjada or myself said you literally have no rebuttal.

Most people on earth are religious....if you take atheists out of the mix there is still going to be sadness, suffer. Your comments insinuate that no religious person has never been sad ever which is extremely illogical considering sadness is a part of the human condition and most humans are religious.

Now to the comment I put in the largest font: I don't even know where to begin. this comment is all the proof I need of your sheer lack of insight and intelligence. It is people like you that give religion a bad name. YOU LOSE

I love how dudes like you, take one part of what was said, take it out of context, and try to make a non existant argument out of it.
You been reading the how to win an e-argument thread too much
grin.gif

Never did I insinuate anything. Show me where I insinuated that no religious people have ever been sad. When did say anything about athiest/agnostics being negative?
And when did I say ALL anything. The word I used was alot.
Your weak comprehension did that for you all by itself.

And another thing, dont put words in my mouth. I said what I said. You can go back and read it anytime.
Maybe you should read it three or four more times so you can understand it.

Let me quote for you what I just said, that you conveniently skipped over

I am not even saying that religion made them happy

Your argument is null and void

And as far as the happiness comment goes:
You think its ignorant because you dont understand it.
Anytime you are sad there come a time when you say to yourself, " I am not going to be sad about this anymore.
Its time to get over it"
Is that not a choice.?

I will go as far as saying, out of  all the ignorant $$@# i've heard on nt and believe me there's been alot...this may very well be the most ignorant.

laugh.gif

Its time to get over it"
Is that not a choice.?
grin.gif

YOU LOSE.

No i am not happy, but i can't be mad with what i have...just hoping for a bright as hell future....hoping

Funny how the most disenfranchized, uneducated, unhealthy, living in the filthiest of conditions are also the most religious. Religion provides comfort for the hopeless and desperate......I wouldn't call that blessed.

Driving a bmw living in a atheist/Godless nation (eg. Sweden, Norway)>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>living like starvin marvin' and going to church everyday to keep your mind off your hunger pains. Some people "need" religion for comfort, those people are usually the most emotionally fragile.

This clown finds it interesting that, out of fewer than 100 replies, on a board with thousands of members, atheists are saying they're unhappy more frequently than theists.
laugh.gif

And is he implying that loving deities will spite those who don't worship them?
frown.gif
That's rather sadistic of them, don't you think?

Negative occurrences or good fortune can strike anyone.

In my opinion..., and from my experience...alot of athiests/agnostics that I know... and others that I meet...
seem to be unhappy. While... again, in my experience... alot of believers that I know... and have met... seem to FEEL HAPPY...,

I am even not saying that religion made them happy

By naming two groups of people (religious/athiest).....and then stating their difference (happy/unhappy) you have indirectly correlated being religious with being happy.....
And when I read through the posts it seems like some of them are consistantly unhappy about something. Year after year after year. And I wonder why.

Are you implying that theists aren't unhappy year after year while athiests/agnostics are? Or are you just making an observation of a forum that has a dissporportionate number of atheist/agnostics and therefore implying that its just NTers themselves who are unhappy year after year?

If you read my other post you would see that I said that IMO there are
"very few reasons, that anyone should ever be unhappy."
I didnt say "anyone who is a believer in God."
Happiness is a choice. When you are unhappy, all you have to do is simply choose to start being happy again. And Voila!

Thats what I was saying. And then here you come, and go off on some tangent.
If some study were released..., The number of theists outweigh the number of athiests.., ... implying that loving dieties... what the %@*# are you even talking about.

By saying agnostics and atheist are always sad, you're insinuating that religious people are always happy.....trust me you don't wanna play this game.

happiness in many ways is not a "choice", like I said you're quite possibly the most ignorant human being in a sea of ignorance that is NT. There can be traumatic life events that trigger sadness (death a parent, rape, etc) or idiopathic depression as a result of chemical imbalances or whatever. Sadness is not always something you can snap out of.

Anytime someone uses the phrase "get over it", it usually signifies a lack of perspective and understanding.

You made an ambiguous statement comparing the happiness of atheists and theists in a thread asking who is happy with their lives. It's not hard for someone to be under the presumption that comments in this thread were the determinant in you creating that inference. I'm quite sure you can see how misleading such a text can be. I've seen people on here in the past make sweeping generalizations about atheists based on posts on here. Your one ambiguous sentence about atheists did not foreshadow what you typed in your following post, so you aren't really breaking that post down very much. There's a difference in breaking a statement down, and clarifying yourself of your vagueness.
