yes, you can apply for a voucher that covers da ENTIRE cost of schoolng...if you're in da NY area look up workforce1. they do this..how you think i got mine

The warehouse I workout at have truck drivers bringing in $70k easy, at the end of the year..
I know a lot of people that live pretty decent lives off of driving a truck.
But for me I'd be OTR for 3 years max then apply at Waste Management (garbage truck company) cause of who I know what works there

I look forward to trucking my way through graduate school and to pay off my student loans. My grandpa use to have his own truck. He was on the road for 20+ years.

My pops is a trucker and it gets steady pay. Enough to send me to college, I guess. There's prerequisites to being a trucker, but my old man finished it all in less than a year. Plus that Class A license looks piff

The problem is, this business tends to be detrimental to your health. My old man has all sorts of problems physically, from neck to back pains. I've helped out once and it is far from easy work and it can't be healthy to be sitting in a vibrating truck hours on end.
Basically, I have no plans to follow my father's career path.

There are some companies that will provide the training themselves. Some cost, and some dont. The company I work for, Prime Inc. doesn't charge you for any of the training and it's very thorough. You even get paid during during your training. Which was a major plus for me. If you stay with the company for a year then you don't owe anything, but if you leave before that then I think the cost you have to pay back is like a little over 2G's. If you're accepted they pay for your bus ticket to MO, put you in a decent motel room, and pay for your meals during that first week of orientation. What you can do though is just look into companies you see on the road and go to their websites and see if they have any sort of training. That's what I did. I've been doing this since January of last year and don't regret it at all.

Why is there a school for trucking? Is the truck difficult to drive? I thought there would be a regular orientation course.

I think you mean the classes for your cdl, idk man. Driving stuff like step vans and dump trucks is no sweat.
Never driven a semi. I'm sure the hardest part is backing up and actually knowing where the end of the trailer is.

Got my Cdl. Was driving at one spot making bank locally but I quit after 4 months because I'm not about that graveyard shift 70 hour work week. But hey I got 30 hours ot a week... I would have ended up destroying my body at that job too. Real physical work.
I drive a mix of class a and b now local still. 45 hour work week 8 am start time and make as much as my last job.
also manage a warehouse and run a forklift half the day. Only overnights I do is a run to Chicago once every few months.
Avoid the big companies like swift and Schneider. They will sell you a dream and pay you nothing and you will be burnt out and hate driving a truck.

I've known of a few people going to big companies that have CDL school programs then bounce and let it go to collections. Some say it wasn't even reported on their credit. Not saying it's right, but hey, it's a power move that can save a few racks.
I've been for 2.75 years now. I'm currently doing something called drive-away. You travel to pick up trucks and get them to their destination then you're on your own. Contractor (1099) job so you put travel costs against your taxes. No forced dispatch, only 1 job per month required to stay hired. You can also work with multiple companies to close travel gaps.

I used to work for Sanimax. It's an awful place but you'll make dough and I got hella free tools and stuff because they got a napa on site.
Now I work for a tiny company. I'm the 3rd person working for the company. I deliver DEF mostly so just pull up to the truck stop or companies def pump run a hose and pump. Real chill work and it's basically 9-5.
First job was a joke. Nothing ever worked but the tractors, trailers were garbage. I'd run like 700 miles a day to Canada and back or something stupid and constantly rode dirty. Like 85,000 pounds and out of hours on the regular. Not even worth it.

Every Trucker I know has back problems, and are away from home for weeks.
