I recently applied for a job, and after scoring very well on the pre-employment exam, nailing the interview and being offered the job, I received a phone call saying that I wasn't going to be hired because of my "criminal" history.
That criminal history is for two separate times of being charged with small possession of marijuana. The first happened in 2011 and I was placed on an "ARD" program, which consisted of a fine, community service, and a year of probation. Upon completion of all of that the record was to be expunged. I completed it in the end of March 2012. The other one happened more recently in mid April 2012 in a city much more lenient on weed charges, so all I was required to do was pay a one time fee and attend a class, after which that record was to be expunged as well. I wasn't aware that expungements take time, so I thought they'd be immediate upon completion of everything. Obviously this isn't the case and it's come back to bite me in the +%#. If it means anything, this all happened in Pennsylvania.
My question is, is there some way that I can get the expungements expedited so I can get these charges off of my record as soon as possible? Maybe hiring a lawyer? I desperately need this job and waiting for the expungements to run their course isn't really an option. Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Before you say "ask a lawyer", consider that I'm already strapped for cash, and consulting a lawyer only to be told that there's nothing they can do for me would only further deplete my bank account
. I KNOW that I can ask a lawyer, if that's what it comes down to. I made this thread to ask normal people if they've ever been in a situation similar to mine, and how they went about it.
