Straight edge is a philosophy of staying clean and sober: meaning refraining from using alcohol, tobacco, and any other recreational drugs. For some, this extends to not engaging in promiscuous sex, following a vegetarian or vegan diet, and not using caffeine or prescription drugs.

I wouldn't exactly declare myself a member of S.E.S. I don't subscribe to any except the fact that I eat meat, drink stuff with caffeine and I use prescription meds when needed (does that count?).

So anyone here Straight Edge?

Lames.
Tell em why you feel this way?

im 19 y/o and ive never smoked or drank...

Good job man. A lot of temptation out there. I'm proud of you. Seriously.

it's like im back in high school again. SxE
those kids were annoying. I don't really drink and don't smoke at all.
but what they do is too much they'll throw it in your face and wont let you forget that "they're better than you" because you smoke and drink....it's just annoying

ive never drank or done drugs because of my own personal choice, but I dont put myself in some category for that

who cares, why do you need a label. this is why people are lames. i didn't start drinking til my second semester of college. people have been drinking around me since highschool and i always told them nah i dont drink. nah i dont smoke. and thats the end of it. I dont need some pretty word to feel good about myself.

i'm not but i can respect the discipline people have who live that type of lifestyle.

as long as they don't pull a cm punk and act like their better then you for being straight edge their fine with me.

Minus the caffeine(even though I try not to drink that much) and prescription drugs(ibuprofen is my friend)...Yeah, I'm pretty straight edge.

My problem with straight edge philosophy is that there is really no need. Some of things the philosophy (if you can call it that) are against aren't inherently bad. Nothing is wrong with having a drink. Prescription drugs aren't bad. Caffeine in moderation isn't bad. So it's a list of things to be against in the name of being against them.

Yeah the prescription drug one should just be on the abuse level. Caffeine got me too. Smoking I can agree with fully but not having Dr.Pepper is the end of life as we know it.

same here.. idc what people do as long as it doesn't affect me but i hate that holier-than-thou attitude.

I follow this only in relation to not using Drugs/Alcohol (Never wanted tattoos or piercings either) - oh and for some reason as far as fitness goes I never wanted to take any kind of supplements when I started working out regularly, I wanted to get built naturally. I approve of drugs when its used to treat a sickness/ailment, thats pretty much it.

Also, I think it comes across as some youth outreach program. It's like some weird cult-like movement that prides itself in converting people and then looking down on those who aren't straight edge. I've never looked at someone who takes prescription (prescribed to them, mind you) and thought 'it's a shame what they are doing to their bodies. You know what you will call straight edge people when they are 70? Dead.

It's fine to be against drug abuse, but why is a subculture needed to state this? I'm against kiddie porn but I don't need a cult to back me.

And as far as being straight edge and acting "holier than thou," those people can DIAF. I grew up in a very religious family and I haven't been to church since 2003 because of it (I consider myself to be a person of "faith," religion is broken). Everyone has the right to live their life as they see fit. I've had people come at me with "You're not experiencing all there is to life by not partaking" and I was seriously heated about it. The mentality can go both ways.

my body relies on meat, cigarettes, weed, and alcoholic. If i went "straight edge" for a day i would go into a coma

I don't do these: Alcohol, tobacco, and any other recreational drugs. Not doing the other stuff is OD.
