Another star goes broke vol. Allen Iverson

It's sad if true, I don't believe he's fully broke. Could be though, Iverson was an icon when I was young. He did so much for the league and influenced everybody. The last few years I saw him playing hurt my soul, it wasn't The Answer anymore.

Let's not even mention home insurance, car insurance, medical insurance, homeowner association dues, housekeeping bills, family.

You're right... You're only bills would be water and electricity.

Insurance? INSURANCE?! Who needs insurance?

Nah for real, if I had 150M in the bank I wouldn't be paying no damn insurance. I'd be renting too

I remember him crying in the press conference when the Sixers brought him back. Didnt he only play like 3 games?

Lets think in basketball terms....AI is done

He was a guy who relied on talent and athletic ability.  Guess what unless you lift, run, eat right, and take care of your body that athletic ability will fade away. He's not quicker than anybody anymore and he's not jumping over anybody anymore.  He also can't bounce back from the daily rigors of the NBA like he used to.  Every team since the Nuggets had him missing more games than he ever did.  Kobe isn't living off talent.  Dude is 32-33 and treats his body right.  Thats the only way to have longetivity.

A.I.'s scoring talent allowed Philly to build around him.  He never was a good defender because of his size.  He only had steals but wasn't great guarding the ball. Dude is old, weak, and slow.  Why the hell would you sign him?  Then you add the attitude and ego that comes with it?
laugh.gif
you gotta be kidding me.  Theres a interview with Lionel Hollins the Grizzlies coach that keeps it 100 with the AI experiment in Memphis.

It was cool to gamble, party, smoke weed, and drink in your 20's.  Well now he's 30 plus and its all caught up to him.  Sad but its all his own fault

I don't know what kinda shape AI is in right now, but I know one thing being blackballed is never deserved. It's one of the ugliest things in boxing and music, and if someone can use your service or you have the talent, not working due to "the powers that be" I know David Stern didn't get where he's at by being a good dude, but how anyone can see that as admirable is beyond me. Clearly people still want to see AI play, and you kidding yourself if you think there's teams out there that don't want him. It's a disservice to the fans that fill your pockets.

I honestly believe nobody wants him.  He's not very good anymore so he'd have to be role player.  A scorer of the bench.  But everybody knows he doesn't want to accept that. Older guys are supposed to teach young guys how to get better and make it in the league not party with or ignore them.  He's worn out his welcome man.

No good team with chemistry would ever think about signing him.  What bad team even wants him? Bobcats? Wizards?  I'm sorry but he's done.

I agree put em up dudes don't say hi then they start acting like Stan.  I don't get it.  It would be nice if famous people stop to talk to all of their fans but as long as they do what they get paid to do I don't really care if they talk to me or not.

IM lost what did AI do to MEmphis to make them give him da boot, and what did he do to the sixers the second time around?

in Memphis he basically was a problem from training camp to his final game; he refused to come off the bench and created problems and was let go.
The Sixers signed him as basically a favor and he used the excuse that his daughter was sick to take a leave of absence and got busted partying down in North Carolina for days straight.  At that point the Sixers parted ways but they took the high road and basically said he would not return for the rest of the season but the truth is the Sixers felt very disrespected after bringing him back when his career was pretty much done at that point.

He burned two chances in the NBA in one season.

......thats putting it lightly.

for a more detailed explaination:

November, 2009:
During Allen Iverson’s final days in Memphis, the Grizzlies owner should’ve had to sit and listen to A.I.’s voice bellowing in the back of the bus. On his way out of the Staples Center one week ago, on his way out of the NBA, Iverson made sure his bosses could hear him in the front. Lionel Hollins let it go, the way the coaches in Philadelphia once did, too.

Just let A.I. rip, let him go. Sources say Iverson started to speak louder and louder about how he had played for one dumb bleeping coach in Detroit a year ago, and now had come to play for another dumb bleeping coach in Memphis. He never dared speak this way on the Detroit Pistons’ bus because he feared team president Joe Dumars and respected the championship players on board.

oh and a year before that?

Pistons teammates listened to Iverson proclaim on the team bus that he was still one of the three best players in the sport – Kobe, LeBron and me, Iverson said – and probably not in that order. Eventually, Dumars shipped him out.

*Sigh* I don't understand why some athletes aren't smart enough to invest their money elsewhere. As soon as they know their $10 mil contract is guaranteed they go out and blow it on things they'll only use once. I guess this is what you get when you live in a materialistic world. We are all too damn greedy

Feel bad for him though.

....but at the same time you have people that get visibly upset over someone pointing out the FACTS on the NBA blackballing AI. quick to call you a hater and the like.

....for some reason, AI is untouchable to these types. and any mention otherwise means you must have some personal vendetta against him.

....truth be told, i got choked up with AI when he cried in Memphis. i really wanted him to do well. but facts are facts.

.....so, let me ask this question here in General.

since we all agree GM's talk, Owners talk, Coaches talk, and it all plays a part in someone being blackballed. do you think AI is a first ballot HOFer?

Of course he is, without doubt.

Him being blackballed isn't without just cause...he's basically a ++%! up. This has nothing to do with his race, his gangster look or none of that. This dude has gotten an inflated sense of ego, and is basically a role model gone wrong. From him trying to kill his baby mother, to his time on memphis just blaming coaches and GM's...why the hell don't you just play the damn game or %%%%?

Dude is flat broke and ya talkin about the Hall of Fame, lol. Furthermore, whatever he's gettin from Reebok it aint enough to cover that jewelry bill.

the way he handled things in detroit, memphis, and his 2nd stint in philly he brought everything upon himself. he did everything humanly possible to burn his bridges with 3 teams in a 1 year span. then when you factor in the fact that as soon as Iverson leaves Denver and they get Billups the Nuggets have their best season ever in the NBA and the Pistons go from a team that made 6 consecutive trips to the Easten Conference Finals to getting swept in the first round.  On top of that Philly and Memphis have both overacheived following his departure.

he's no type of victim, how he dissed he coach in Detroit, did the same in Memphis while blowing off training camp, and how he handled things in Philly when they took him back when no one else wanted him,  the hell with him. he deserved everything he got by rubbing more then enough people off. People were willing to tolerate all his negative qualities when he was a superstar calliber player but once his skills declined and he didn't mature, his negative qualities are much more noticeable.

it would be a nice comeback story if he EARNED his way back in the league and was able to end his career on his terms but given all the bridges he burnt over the years it's going to take alot of repairing things on his part and mending fences for him to have that storybook ending.
