WSJ - The Chinese Yuan: The Next World Currency?

The U.S. financial system is in a fragile place. As the bailouts go on- and on, and on- the U.S. and the U.K. will increasingly depend on China, Japan and other nations to buy Treasurys. But Wednesday, a U.K. auction of $2.6 billion in 40-year treasury securities garnered only $2.3 billion of bids. And in the U.S., Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner implied that the dollar could be replaced as the premier currency for world financial reserves-something recently suggested by Chinese officials. (Geithner later backtracked).

Ha, I'll believe it when I see it.

Implication is one thing, but if the US were to give up it's greatest strength willingly I'd be floored.

Maybe if people didnt spend there work day on the internet, the financial situation wouldnt be so bad

Considering I was one of the only people at my job who didn't fake a sickness to keep their holiday going, I don't feel so bad.

but in regards to our "moral fiber" etc....lol. yeah, please name a time in our history when, morally, we were better off?

as far as policy & progression......it's a slow process as always. in the narrow scope of a short-term time-frame it can often be difficult to see exactly where we are headed.

Unfortunatly the right wing has hi-jacked American politics. And these people, make Nixon look like a God. It's like mass of bible-beatin dullards, whobelieve the earth is flat and universal health care is the devil are controlling the country, there is a reason to be scared.

I hear that.

Personally, I can't get much accomplished without my staff being present and almost 75% of the team called out today.

can't really be mad at tha but the greater attitude that you speak of is part of the moral decay. There is a lack of traditional work ethic and a falsesense of entitlement that too many of us have.

That goes hand in hand with us becoming a service oriented economy instead of producing tangible products, the average worker is detached from their job andgets little sense of satisfaction or accomplishment from a days work.

Everyone is so wrapped up in materialistic !$@+, twitter, Jordans etc. It's like they are asleep to the true state of the world.

The "We'll be alright" and "America always bounces back" comments sound really nice, but every time our country has bounced back it wasbecause it received a hard kick from its citizens because things were taking a turn for the worst. If we remain apathetic and have this "everything willbe alright" attitude while (not to offend anyone) less intelligent people spew hate and call a national health care system that would provide much neededinsurance to millions "trampling the Constitution" then things certainly will not be ok.

If we allow our government to continue on with two wars that have done nothing but waste tax dollars and accomplish absolutely nothing we will not be ok.

If, like Mr. Herbert states in the article, Americans do not learn to live within their means and continue to live absolutely outlandish lifestyles that theycertainly cannot afford then we will not be ok.

As a foreigner, I am completely amazed by how effective the Republicans have been in their strategy to shout down any plans coming from the other side, despite having no alternative proposals to speak of. I can believe the public supporting them if they actually had a plan. But the only plan they have is to insult and contradict.

How did the American public become so misinformed?
If we continue to allow THIS to happen, well.. you know.

I just find it sad when I go on dudes facebooks and under "Favorite Books:" you see @%%+ like, "Who the %%$% reads?" People are soself-indulgent it seems like this generation only cares about getting "#+%$#! up" and "getting money."

Yeah, that was one of the comments that stood out to me during the reading.

Where are the alternative solutions in the midst of all of this right wing hysteria?

Wheres the 1,000 page GOP proposal to compete with Obama's plan?

read the comments for political stories on AOL.com... it is so awful.

You guys are missing point. The Republicans and Democrats are one in the same.

Both were for the bailouts

Both control the debates and shutout third party movements which in the past have accomplished feats such as women's voting rights and the abolition ofslavery

Both take money from corporate criminals ($9 million or so combined in the last check in 2002 election cycle. God knows how much it is now).

Both consistently put big business ahead of the people

How much longer are you guys going to hope one party gets it right in this rotten system?
