I'd be legit sad if Papi went to another network. Someone better create a reverse SAP button on the remote. I took Spanish in middle school and high school but barely remember any of it.

Bill Simmons signs on with HBO

HBO says it has struck a multi-year, multi-platform deal with the multi-faceted Bill Simmons.

Under the deal, which begins in October, HBO will be Simmons’ exclusive television home, the network said Wednesday.

Among other projects, Simmons will host a weekly talk show premiering next year. It will feature stories and guests from across the sports and cultural landscapes.

He will also have a production deal to produce content for the network and its digital platforms, delivering video podcasts and features. In addition, he will consult with HBO Sports.

A top personality at ESPN until they parted ways in May, Simmons has served as a sports columnist, TV host and analyst, and best-selling author. He was also the founding editor of the Grantland.com website.

 i'm so ******* happy

Wow.

Hoping to see Simmons in print more than on TV but that's not going to likely happen now.

I was criticized for mentioning HBO would be a good spot though

I only questioned HBO in regards to its viability as a writing outlet. He's a writer, and it's still his strongest suit. It appears this HBO deal will provide a platform for that, so we'll have to wait and see how that works out.

I need the weekly nfl columns to begin in October.

Maybe he'll just blog his columns now

He can freelance write .

Grantland could still be :hat
If they let klosterman run it
And give him a podcast that would be dope .
They under utilizing rembert , his podcast be taking huge hiatus's but overall simmons to hbo is :hat

Curious as to who jumps ship .

^ Agreed minus the Grantland part. Hate when they get Whitlock on PTI which has been pretty often recently :x

On Tony's radio show he was saying that he and Mike were taking time off for the summer and he would be on alot. But he also said that they were getting him ready to take his (Tony) spot whenever he retires/leaves. Not a fan of that at all.

For those interested in your upcoming NFL Sunday pregame announcing schedules.

Awful Announcing:

It stands to reason that just one hour of network pregame programming would no longer be enough in 2015. Fox Sports is the first of the broadcast networks to make the jump as Sports Business Journal reports the company will be moving its Fox NFL Kickoff show from cable (FS1) to network television (Fox). The show will now serve as a lead in for Fox NFL Sunday for a new two hour block of Sunday morning NFL pregame coverage.

Last year, the 2-year-old “Fox NFL Kickoff” featured Joel Klatt as host, along with Randy Moss, Donovan McNabb (currently serving an indefinite suspension after a DUI arrest) and Dave Wannstedt serving as analysts. Fox executives have not made any decisions about the show’s cast or format except that it will be separate talent from its well-known “Fox NFL Sunday” team. Any new talent could include a name personality, and at deadline, Fox was talking with Colin Cowherd about a possible role in the show, sources said.

ESPN will be debuting a new Sunday edition of NFL Insiders which will replace the first hour of Sunday NFL Countdown. The move is part of a soon-to-be announced multi-year extension for Trey Wingo, whose role with the network will expand.

Wingo’s new deal guarantees the longterm Bristol veteran will enter a third decade of employment at ESPN having joined ESPN in 1997.

The new Sunday Morning NFL Insiders show will partner the popular host with Adam Schefter, Chris Mortensen and Louis Riddick for one hour leading into a shortened Sunday NFL Countdown.

The new Sunday edition of NFL Insiders will debut on September 13th and will air regularly at 10am ET. ESPN’s pre-game coverage will also see some additional retooling too as the now two hour Sunday NFL Countdown will be moving to a more fluid “whip-around” type format. Schefter and Mortensen will continue to be involved in Countdown in addition to their new roles on Insiders. It’s believed that Matthew Berry will get a much more prominent role on Countdown as ESPN’s fantasy expert as well.

And lot more media updates:

ESPN confirms multi-year agreement to keep Ryen Russillo

With his contract up later this year, ESPN Radio host Ryen Russillo will be staying in Bristol. ESPN confirmed to Awful Announcing that Russillo has come to terms on a new contract to remain at the network.

Russillo has grown into an integral part of ESPN Radio’s lineup and the network as a whole. He first joined ESPN Radio in 2006 and became Scott Van Pelt’s co-host for his afternoon radio program in 2009.

With SVP leaving radio and moving to a new full-time role as a late night SportsCenter anchor, it is expected that Russillo will continue with the show that now bears his name. It remains to be seen if Russillo will host it in a solo effort in the long term or whether he will be joined by a new co-host.

Suzy Kolber extends deal with ESPN

According to ESPN chronicler Jim Miller, Suzy Kolber has signed a new deal that will keep her with the network for another four years.

ESPN has placed Kolber on the short list to replace Chris Berman on Sunday NFL Countdown and Monday Night Countdown if and when he decides to retire. It’s well-deserved as Kolber has certainly paid her dues at ESPN and at Fox.

Adrian Wojnarowski is sticking with Yahoo Sports

After a dalliance with Sports Illustrated, NBA reporter extraordinaire Adrian Wojnarowski is staying with Yahoo Sports with a new 4-year deal according to The Big Lead and Eric Fisher of SBJ.

Throughout the process, Wojnarowski’s own free agency story centered around the creation of an MMQB or Grantland like vertical that he would lead. Yahoo, SI, and other big players in the sports media were reportedly in discussions to make it happen.

Charles Davis reportedly replacing Donovan McNabb on Fox NFL broadcasts

With Fox Sports suspending Donovan McNabb indefinitely following his arrest on DUI charges last month, the network had some changes to make among its NFL announcing teams.

Sports Illustrated‘s Richard Deitsch reports that Charles Davis will move from Fox’s college football coverage to take McNabb’s place and team up with Thom Brennaman on the network’s No. 4 crew. Davis returns to calling NFL games after doing so for Fox during the 2009 and 2010 seasons, paired with **** Stockton. He had also worked on several late-season NFL broadcasts with Gus Johnson.

Joel Klatt will step up to replace Davis as Fox’s lead analyst with play-by-play man Gus Johnson and reporter Molly McGrath. That team’s first broadcast will be Sept. 3, with Michigan at Utah on Fox Sports 1. Stepping into Klatt’s studio role on the network’s college football coverage will be Matt Leinart.

FS1 already giving up on Fox College Saturday?

Multiple sources have told SI.com that Fox Sports management is considering moving Fox College Saturday to Friday night and changing up some of the staffing. There is also talk of starting a new college football show on Saturday that will be gambling-centric, similar to what Fox Sports Live did during the NCAA basketball tournament when it did live remotes from Las Vegas. Nothing is finalized as of yet.
