All Things Sports Media Thread!!

Use to be cnnsi.com.. Now it is si.com

So not sure if they they are still affiliated or what

Time Warner spun off their print media into its own separate company two years ago. That's called Time Inc. SI (and many others) are under its control.

Time Warner is strictly television and film, which includes the entire Turner family (CNN, TNT, NBA TV).

They may share the name "Time", but that's about it. I mean, Peter King's MMQB is an SI site, but would you ever associate him with CNN?

And the network will ramp up from there, with plans for more of the addictive Robert Durst docuseries, a not-yet-announced 1970s porn drama from The Wire's David Simon and, if all goes as planned, a platform for ESPN cast-off Bill Simmons. While HBO executives are staying mum, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the network is in talks for a major multipart deal with the biggest media personality in sports (more on that later).
Lombardo won't rule out other talk shows, too, particularly if the right personality comes along. Though he's tight-lipped about names on his wish list, he acknowledges the soon-to-be available Jon Stewart would hold appeal. "Trust me," he says, "I've already had a very polite conversation." Considerably more likely is Simmons, whom the network is said to have made a big play for after his unceremonious booting from the more corporate ESPN. Such a move would be straight out of the HBO playbook, which famously provided a creative reprieve for former ABC flameout Bill Maher many years earlier. Though Simmons is said to have several suitors, insiders say conversations at HBO have focused on a TV show — something Simmons is believed to want — along with heavy digital extensions that make the prolific personality tailor-made for the HBO Now era.

ESPN had enough money, and no matter what HBO winds up giving him - ESPN could've afforded it. It would've been better smart with a new 9-year NBA, TV deal starting soon to have him and the network he has.

**** ESPN

I'm just glad bill will be able to do the same things if he go to HBO including not being as filtered

As a Simmons fan this seems like a :hat move for his supporters

Yeah unfiltered will be good. His first joke on the monologue of his first ep would be the exact quote on the podcast that got him suspended and then it would go into the intro :lol

ESPN is so lame.....zach lowe been slipping too.

Carolla mentioned on today's show that he had dinner with Simmons the other night. He implied that Simmons has to wait until September when his contract is up before doing ANY media whatsoever (podcasts, radio appearances, etc.), but when his contract is up, he's going on Carolla's podcast to "talk a bunch of s***" (as he put it).

Why? Because he's churned out a few more podcasts than normal and did some True Hoop appearances in the Finals? His writing is the same.

His first guests should be artie lange and joe buck. Re-live the first episode of joe buck's hbo show. Was one of the biggest tv disasters i've ever seen.

Probably because he voted LeBron to be Finals MVP like ESPN told him to.

Did ESPN tell Steve Aschburner and Howard Beck to vote for LeBron, too? There were four votes for LeBron, and JVG and Lowe were the only ESPN people to vote for him. Hubie Brown and Marc Stein (both from ESPN) voted for Iggy. The real conspiracy is the no votes for Steph, because a potential split would have helped LeBron a lot more.

LeBron shot under 40% in the series and lost , historic effort but you can't give him finals mvp .

Beck works for Turner, obviously ESPN and Turner were in cahoots to drum up a talking point. Steph deserved votes though. People underrated his impact.
