All Things Sports Media Thread!!

Nice note by Barnwell.

This whole situation reminds me of Dead Poets Society :lol

the kind of overly descriptive writing they use is exactly how i would write my school essays when I didnt do any research and needed to get to the target word count

cant read stuff like this without thinking BS (no pun intended)

Grantland just showcases some guys who are not good writers. Zach Lowe and Barnwell chief among them. But I like reading longer sports stuff that's actually good.

At least Barnwell is aware of how terrible of a writer he is.

Shots at Lowe have been acceptable since he said having an MVP vote was something he doesn't want because he was quote "suffering" over the decision process.

Barely bracing reality. :lol

Whoa people dont like Zach Lowe now? What is life?

I like the stuff he does, I mean he's not Jonathan Abrams or anything, but I get a lot out of it.

Lowe's a great analyzer of the game.

He's defensive as hell on Twitter though.

Lowe is great to me..

Barnwell is hit or miss with me

He's just not a good writer.  Like straight up his writing skills are lacking and he doesn't know how to make an article entertaining.

Which is funny with both him and Barnwell because Simmons became what he is by being a great writer (as sportswriters go) despite a lack of knowledge.

maybe Lowe would benefit from cutting down the length of his articles? just provide the analysis and focus on keeping the story more concise?

With Lowe it all depends on the subject matter.. I try to read most because I know I'll learn something.. But sometimes I just don't care enough about the subject matter

But I'll at least skim.. And then move down to his 10 things he likes doesn't like

With barnwell I've seen stuff that is just flat out wrong (and is kinda easy to find out).. Dude blocked me on Twitter because I asked him if he would edit his piece on the Eagles and RBs.. Since the whole thing was flawed once we found out what the guaranteed money was in their deals (pretty much half of what he said/assumed in his article)

I'm probably used to Lowe's writing by now since I've been following him since he was SI.

I enjoy his breakdowns and the length doesn't get to me, it's just some things he'll say in the podcast :lol I know everything he does is entrenched in the NBA and it's likely non-stop, but sometimes he says things where you wonder if he's aware of the world around him :lol

Did he really say this? My goodness.

Some of these new age **** boys are doing way too much now. Slow the **** down and chill.

Bill Barnwell analysis is superb though.

Yeah. I believe it was the April 2nd podcast he did with Kevin Arnovitz.

Barnwell just writes 3-5 articles a year about how smart the Patriots are and blah blah Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers are good.....  Peter King level basic insight trussed up as analytics or something.

this dude blocked me on Twitter a long while back when I made fun of that stupid article he did ranking mascots or some ****

sensitive *** lol

He's so defensive on Twitter. He also backtracks a lot and tries to play the semantics game to cover his statements.

To be fair as a writer I know firsthand how annoying trolling like that can be. One thing if you disagree with the point of the article but if you're just making fun of dude that's foul :lol

He started off the pod talking about it

I remember that episode. He basically said who he was voting for (Steph) without really saying it and then talked about how the having a vote irks him basically.

Ya'll take Zach Lowe way too seriously. He jokes around a lot. The whole MVP vote thing is a really dumb thing to hate him over.

Also, sports writers get things wrong sometimes? Breaking news, right there.

On an unrelated note, I gave the USA Today: NBA A to Z podcast a try today for the first time ever. Last time ever. Uhhhh yeah. Ugh. :lol

You're taking the brief criticism toward him a bit seriously imo, I mean he's still one of the best writers in regards to the NBA there is. However the more you're exposed to somebody the more opportunities there are to discern what you like about their work and conduct and what you disagree with. Doesn't change my general and overall opinion about him, just think he needs to gain some perspective in light of what he was complaining about :lol

Edit: New one FYI.

Not about him getting it wrong. It's how defensive he gets on Twitter about people calling him out for statements that he makes. Just a thin skinned guy by all accounts.
