Alicia Keys "Girl on Fire" Thread - 'Set the World on Fire' Tour (ft. Miguel) TIX on sale 1/18

For me anyway, the Element was a bit contrived. It was around the time she started sneaking with Swizz and it didn't feel genuine. Nor did it seem like she was truly free. An album that was forced and made in haste. Still has some great cuts on it.

Fire sounds like she has actually matured as a woman and the music speaks to that. I could do without Limitedless. Fav tracks are toss up amongst New Day, Fire We Make - when is Maxwell gonna come out of hibernation?, One Thing, and Not Even The King. Oh and Tears Always Win. Really hoping Brand New Me is the next single.

This feels so cohesive and authentic. And there wasn't too much trying for radio tracks on here. Great album.

Listen To Your Heart, Brand New, Fire We Make, That's When I Knew, One Thing, 101 are my favs

I think you're spot on there. I was a huge Alicia fan but Element took her down a notch. The concept of the album (especially the poor intro track) felt pretentious to me. Musically her ceiling is very high but what often trips her up is assembling an album around a cohesive theme. Plus, Element saw her straining outside her vocal range too much, imo. I like simplicity with Alicia. Don't give me overly hip hop tracks just give me the piano and her voice.

As for GIRL ON FIRE. It arrived today but I won't listen to it until I can have an hour to myself to listen to the album start-to-finish. I really really hope this album is good!

No wonder why I keep gravitating to One Thing... I see Frank is credited on this track :smokin

I should of known through the lyrics...he's such a storyteller.

Yea I think he also does the background vocals as well.

I wish New Day was left off as well as Limitedless. They mess with the feng shui of the album a little too much. Would have been better as bonus tracks.

"Tell me when the hell this loneliness is gonna be over, when everything in this room reminds me of you..."

Gave this album one listen. I used to be a huge fan of Alicia Keys back with her first couple of albums. This one, like the last one, just bored me. "Tears Always Win" is the only standout track to me, but it sounds like a Bruno Mars song. I realize the Smeezingtons, which includes Bruno Mars, co-wrote and co-produced, but the keyword there is "co." The song sounds 100% Smeezingtons; I don't hear Alicia Keys on it outside of her singing it. Maybe a second listen through will change my mind, but I'm not co-signing for this record at this point.

"Brand New Me" is a top 5 song this year.

There's a lot in the album that isn't force fed to you. Definitely takes more than a few listens.

Favor the NeYo and Miguel album over this one. Gotta give it a few more spins to see if I grow on it.

I went into this with somewhat low expectations. Better than the last album without question, a solid comeback....6.5/10. "Fire We Make" is the standout track for me so far.
