I feel like everyone is missing the point in hating the never Jordan models. They want them to look amazing off court, but that isn't the point of the line... They're made to be excellent basketball shoes, and for the past couple years they have been. The problem is, tech has advanced to the point that to make top level performance shoe you can't also have it be appealing off court. The leather uppers and air units of 1990 that were acceptable performance and looked good back then wouldn't be good enough on court today. Jordan puts flight plate and woven uppers on shoes because their focus is performance, but people simply don't like wearing that stuff off court. They tried to get a mix with the 2011, but while in my opinion they nailed the look, they were lousy performers.
Then, you say, why can the lebrons look good and play good? The lebrons don't attempt to push the envelope on court, and the jordans do. The lebrons might look better, but they aren't good enough on court for lebron to wear them. The XX8/9 were some of the best performance models every.
Personally, I'd rather get a great basketball shoe than a lifestyle shoe
