Not a bad retro, but there’s still work to be done.

06 > 22

Toes on these look built for Bugs Bunny like I mentioned earlier in the thread.

06 way more sleeker.

Totally disagree dude. This is hands down the best retro of the 7 ever all things considered. The 2006 had that incredible triangular shape, but it was really far away from 1992 shape.
2006 also had the that god forsaken glossy midsole paint that was synonymous with retro products during that era. Didn’t mind the gloss at the time, but seeing 2022 matte midsole paint is a touch I love, especially after having the 1992 version in tow to compare with.
2006 had the unfathomably low rent cardinal red vinyl interior. Always hated that even in ‘06.
2006 had gold lace tips which, I realize folks adore, but it simply wasn’t OG and I’m a stickler so lol.
2006 had the reverse heel shield colors which were also incorrect to original.

I loved my 2006 at the time, and held them high especially when the awful 2011 came along, but the 2022 is the greatest shaped the 7 has been since 1992, period.

Either way, hope y’all are enjoying your pairs. I know I am!

Also, OG’s didn’t have a bugs bunny steel toe

If not for this, this retro would be 9.5/10.

But when I throw these on and look down, all I see is a strong az toebox looking back up at me.

That 2002-08 shape is unmatched. The widened quarter with the sloped toe just looks so much better. Sometime closer to the OG isn’t all that.

Honest to God, I'm not sure what some of you guys want out of the toebox on 7's and 6's. Some of y’all have convinced yourselves that the OG toeboxes were flat and smushed down, when they absolutely had a shelf/cliff toe. The toes on AJ 6-8 only flattened out when they had been stepped on and dented up. The toeboxes on those Ray Allens were an abomination because they tried to flatten/streamline them, and it killed the entire shape of the shoe when they started getting broken in. These are about as close as we've ever gotten on a 7. Here's a DS OG Bordeaux from a few pages back for reference...

The difference is, on the OG, the shoe had already sloped down before you get to the toe, and the toe didn't point up. By time you get to the bottom of the tongue, there isn't any more sloping to do. So it has to drop off at the end to leave room for toes

Here's another comparison. I found a listing of a Deadstock OG pair of 1992 Cardinal 7s on ebay. It seems like the toe varies from pair to pair as with these, you can see that the OG pair has a straight downward slope toward the toe before it becomes a bit more boxy/dropping off in a cliff esque way. The toe on the '22, at least on my pair, lacks that transition from a straight slope to a cliff toe and is a bit more rounded overall.

It's always funny to me when ppl get so married to a detail on an OG just because it's on the OG. As if they coulda thrown any detail on a shoe in the 80s and 90s and because it was there at that time, it was a good thing. It's so trivial lol, not even looking at it at face value. Could be a big *** **** drawn on them and cats would say "well it was OG so I want it on the retro"

I got a soft spot for these though, the 06 pair was the first retro I ever copped for myself when I was getting into sneakers around 09. Hated that squeaking though someone let me know if these do the same cuz I'd scoop on 50% - pairs like this I like to wait for someone to rock em once or twice then sell for the low when the next thing comes out.

These pics, 4of12 and 6of12, illustrate what I was try to say. Look at how flat the area over the toes is from the bottom of the tongue to the tip of the toe. All of the sloping was done. Now look at the pics of the ‘22, and you’ll see it’s still sloping down over the toes because the shoe overall is more bulky.

FTR, I’m content with the current shape and I did cop these, but I can still point out differences from the OG.

^^ this

Fam talking about what do y’all want. And posting a Taiwan Bordeaux with the 2 upper eyelets while other had 3, or with complete different shapes and toes.

I'm well aware of what I posted, and I'm well aware of the 2 hole first run of the 7's. I had them. The 3 hole uppers didn't start until the next production run. I snagged that pic because it was literally 3 pages back in this thread. My purpose in posting that was because it showed that there was a cliff there, and they weren't flat like the Air Darwin, or mashed down like the Ray Allen run, which is what a bunch of people on here seem to want for some strange reason.

AIR J XIII AIR J XIII I couldn't quite figure out how to put that into words, but yes, the OG had already flattened out towards the bottom of the tongue, which made the profile a little slimmer. Thanks forest hills forest hills for posting those!

I wish the backs on the 7s were straighter. Not a fan of the tapered ankle look. Especially being a bigger dude with thicker legs, models like these are not as flattering for every outfit.

I think the year of the 7 has been pretty quiet overall. Normally we get several pairs of that anniversary year Jordan for each year. In this case we only got 3 didn’t we?

Dang. No love on the olive pair?! Guess I’m biased because I’m a big fan of the color in general. Not saying I’d buy (probably would on discount), but I dig em.
